What a brave Hollywood leftist!

Larry David inspects the Jesus painting he peed on during the latest episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
Hilarious.
Comedian Larry David pi$$ed on a painting of Jesus in the latest episode of the HBO Series “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
FOX News reported:
Comedian Larry David is under attack from critics who say he pushed the mocking of religion and Christian belief in miracles over the edge in the latest episode of his HBO series “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
On the show’s most recent installment, which aired Sunday, David urinates on a painting of Jesus Christ, causing a woman to believe the painting depicts Jesus crying.
Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, responded to the episode, saying David should “quit while he’s ahead,” and that the show is proof that the comedian’s best years are behind him.
“Was Larry David always this crude? Would he think it’s comedic if someone urinated on a picture of his mother?” Donohue said in a statement. “This might be fun to watch, but since HBO only likes to dump on Catholics (it was just a couple of weeks ago that Sarah Silverman insulted Catholics on ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’) and David is Jewish, we’ll never know.”
UPDATE: Would Larry David pi$$ on a photo of Obama?

*Now where can I find a painting of Mohammad…?*
The hypocrisy – of the left, of Muslims, and of the media – is stark.
Fortunately for Mr. David, Christians believe in the concept – and constitutional protection – of free speech.
Of course, I wonder if Soros and his So We May See coalition will come out against this obvious anti-Christian hate speech in the media?

One suspects that if he’d accidentially peed on the Koran on a bathroom floor, he’d get great reviews about his “comedy with an edge,” but would find a much livelier crowd waiting for him on the red carpet at one of those events where Hollywood types give each other awards for their “courage.”

We should not be surprised that the Christ continues to be a sign that is spoken against. By mocking the Prince of Peace the discord that is found in Larry David’s heart is revealed.

Isn’t this a hate crime? Isn’t a Jew pissing on a painting of Jesus the same as burning a cross in public view on private property? Or is it only a hate crime when the offended is from a racial/religious/social class that is prone to violence? Do straight white Christians need to start chopping off heads or crucifying people to get respect?

Eh, he didn’t pee directly on it. He was on a medication that caused him to urinate violently. The painting, which was next to the toilet, got splashed.
October 28th, 2009 | 11:12 am | #23
To put it in the perspective of who mattered in this world, do you think anyone will think it brave and edgy to urinate on the image of Larry David two thousand years from now?
October 28th, 2009 | 11:14 am | #24
He did not piss on the picture! gawd you people are dense. He had been taking medicine that caused him to urinate with allot of flow (which was pretty funny) The picture was on the wall in the bathroom and there was one splash that hit the painting so it made it like like Jesus was crying. It was a great comment on all you who think you see Mary in a poptart and start worshipping it.
The owners of the painting thought a miracle happened when nothing like that happened at all!
I was raised Baptist and never felt insulted. You Catholics, who cant tolerate for one second that someone doesnt agree with your beliefs, are starting to look allot like those muslim wingnuts who get violent at anything that threatens their belief in the pedophile prophet.

I think it would be great if high profile, respected members of the Islamic faith, and all other religions came out with public admonishments for this type of behavior.
Although I am not a religous person, I at least have the decency to respect other peoples beliefs and refrain from mockery in the name of comedy.

October 28th, 2009 | 11:37 am | #31
Wishing it was Mohammad is inappropriate and also quite cowardly. You are wishing to offend another religion, while at the same time someone else would take revenge on your behalf.
The current acceptable action would be to initiate sustained media reports and boycots of sponsors of/and the show and network, including local cable delivery services. This could also include goading various Christian organizations into taking action themselves, and organizing their members to do so as well.
For instance, one could ask their pastor or preacher to mention this in the sermon, and ask the congregation to undertake some form of protest action.
October 28th, 2009 | 11:49 am | #32
Michael,
As a baptist, why are you attacking catholics. What do any of the above comments have to do with being catholic or not. The last time I looked, baptists believed that Jesus Christ was the son of God. I think the issue is the poor taste of having urine on a picture of Jesus and how it should be offensive to any person of any faith or even someone who does not believe in God, as a matter of respect towards others beliefs. And I would be saying the same thing if David urinated on a picture of any religious figure or the torah. Please check your own personal issues with catholics at the door, before responding please.
October 28th, 2009 | 11:49 am | #33
I think we need to temper outrage with a quick thought on how Jesus would likely respond.
“Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”
October 28th, 2009 | 11:51 am | #34
@michael:
Sorry, but you have to bring more than such pathetic semantic arguments here. He urinated. The urine hit a painting of Jesus. Please: try to explain how that squares with your assertion that “he did not piss on the picture”?
First, not everyone here is Catholic. Most of us, though, have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
As such, most of us know that this twit pissing on a painting of Jesus Christ is nothing. Jesus is still Lord. Larry David’s knee will bow to Christ just as will the knee of everyone else.
So, ultimately, no; we’re not offended for Christ.
Way to miss the point entirely (and, again: not everyone here is a Catholic).
The point is that Christians are not reacting to this incident with violence, looting, arson, murder, and calls for the death of the perpetrator – as the Muslims be if the painting were of Mohammad.
The point is that liberals, who claim to be tolerant, blatantly disrespect Christianity.
The point is that the media, so sensitive to avoiding any hint of offending Muslims, will fail to bat an eye at this incident.
The irony is that all of this hypocritical behavior is only possible because of tolerant Christians who respect others’ rights of freedom of speech and religious expression.
Perhaps you, sir, are the one who needs to “grow up”.
October 28th, 2009 | 12:03 pm | #35
@Robert:
Are you having reading comprehension difficulties? Nobody here is “wishing” that the painting had been one of Mohammad. Rather, we are wishing that cowardly, intolerant liberals would quit trying to pretend that they are brave and tolerant.
No offense, but we’ll keep our own counsel on a correct and acceptable course of action in such circumstances. I would suggest that you do likewise.

This is an example of secular Jews out for a laugh, and thinking that they are making witty social commentary on fundamentalist Christianity.

But this gives them a two-fer, they also get to indulge in the liberal sport of insulting Christianity.

October 28th, 2009 | 12:20 pm | #39
Michael,
Just from your description, it sounds bad. And I believe people seeing Jesus or Mary in a potato chip should be skewed. Granted, I haven’t seen the episode, but the creators of the show didn’t edit it out. If one drop of any body fluid, finds its way to any religious or political icon, get ready for people to be offended.
I’ve been in the room when somebody suggested something offensive to the Catholic Church in a film, making fun of the sex scandal that rocked the faith. I fought against it, because it wouldn’t have been funny.
And we intolerant Catholics haven’t got the following:
A memo from His Holiness calling for racking and inquisition of Larry David…
A holy crusade to the corporate offices of HBO…
Or
A withholding of the Eucharist of those who watch the offending episode.
BTW, you call us intolerant and use the phrase “pedophile prophet?” Really?
October 28th, 2009 | 12:20 pm | #40
Are you having reading comprehension difficulties?
Perhaps.
Nobody here is “wishing” that the painting had been one of Mohammad. Rather, we are wishing that cowardly, intolerant liberals would quit trying to pretend that they are brave and tolerant.
A number of comments mentioned Mohammad. As if they would like to see what would happen, ‘Well, those Muslims sure wouldn’t take this’ almost in admiration, or envy, that they defend their faith. They sure are “outdefending” the native faith in Europe.
No offense, but we’ll keep our own counsel on a correct and acceptable course of action in such circumstances. I would suggest that you do likewise.
You do that. Be brave and pious and tolerant, and don’t forget to pray for them.
October 28th, 2009 | 12:25 pm | #41
Uh, Michael, you might have been “raised” Baptist, but that doesn’t tell us what you are now. I am a Baptist, and I find your insult to our Catholic friends to be on about the same level as the Jewish jerk who peed on a painting of Christ, and then perpetuated some kind of myth that someone he visited thought Christ was crying. I call bull on the whole thing, and find it much more likely that you liberals have been punked by one of your own, or alternatively that this David character is desperate for attention. I doubt whether any of this ever happened the way he depicted it.
October 28th, 2009 | 12:27 pm | #42
Humor was supposed to result from the stupidity of the Christians. They did not know that the cause of the liquid was L. David’s bladder. They thought that the cause of the liquid was Jesus’s tear duct. However, this “Bare Midriff” episode is further proof that the show has “jumped the shark” and is becoming desperate and failing in its attempt to be funny.

@Martin:
So, how about the sense of humor of Muslims? Or Hindis? Or Jews? Or gays? Or blacks? Or [insert any other group here]?

@Robert:
Indeed, you demonstrate your reading incomprehension rather clearly.
Nobody here is somehow envious of the hypothetical reaction of intolerant fascists. We don’t need to use violence to defend our Lord, because we are confident in knowing that our Lord needs no such defense from men. He is Soverign, despite the disrespectful antics of Larry David and his ilk.
Given that we’re not calling for the death of anyone over the incident, I’d say that we win the tolerance argument by default.
What you lack in reading comprehension skill, you make up for – in spades – with arrogance and condescencion.

Again, this is emblematic of a developing persecuting culture. It’s not that big a leap from desecrating holy symbols to insulting, discriminating against, and eventually persecuting Christians. Hollywood and the culture as a whole is promoting the view that it’s ok to mock, trivialize, and eventually hurt Christians–that’s what’s dangerous about this–we are seeing here the development of a persecuting society.

It’s ALL about trying (in his own feeble way) to insult the GOP (which he seems to fear greatly). In his stupidity, he isn’t aware that not all members of the GOP are Christians.
The libtard/leftist talking points say that ALL GOP members are Evangelical Christians, so – rather than find out for himself – he blindly accepts that as “holy writ”. He’s unable to believe anything else. (If anything else was true, the talking points would have said so.)

As a Jew, I have found Larry David’s treatment of Jews and Jewish traditions to be demeaning and insulting. I watched several episodes of Curb from various seasons. They made me feel exceedingly uncomfortable. He plays up horrible Jewish stereotypes, like himself as a dense, klutzy nebbish with a shiksa wife or that horrid, loud, vengeful, foul-mouthed shrewish wife of his fat friend. Some of these stereotyped characterizations leaked into Seinfeld, but I think that Seinfeld himself was able to put a cap on some of that.

I wrote it at the link, so I’ll reproduce it here:
Larry David is probably the funniest guy on TV. I love Curb and love(d) Seinfeld. I’m also a God loving, practicing Christian. I vote republican. While I can see the offense and do not excuse it, in the context of the show it fits right in with every episode of Curb – ugly, uncomfortable misunderstandings. No, Mr. David probably wouldn’t piss on an Obama pic. And, yeah, it was probably on purpose that he chose an image of Jesus Christ to offend. But, as a Christian, this sort of thing rolls off my back. It should yours too. We’ve been taught that this is what unbelievers do. It’s part of our calling. Does that mean I can’t laugh at a genuinley funny show? Heck no. I’m thankful that I have a belief and God that lets me appreciate offensive idiot humor even at my expense. God plays his own jokes, after all. Larry David’s left-wing wife left him and took half his money so she could be with some rugged deadbeat “republican” bloke. Enough with this immediate lashing out. Trust your faith, your savior, yourself. Stop worrying or bringing attention to people who want nothing more than to offend you and garner your caterwauling. Larry David is very funny. But he’s also a miserable man whose wife left him for his philosophical antithesis. If you must, take solace in that.

No. Unlike you, we don’t believe in mocking or debasing any religion or belief system.
The only reason that we’d like to see a supposed “comedian” pee on a picture of mohammed would be to see if he was brave enough to face the inevitable outrage and death threats from the muslims.

Yeah… JEWS have always had it SO EASY. No one has ever belittled their religous beliefs. Christians can dish it, but they can’t take it. Muslims REALLY can’t take it. Jews are used to it.
One aspect that makes something “comedy” is when it pokes fun at something that ACTUALLY happens. I don’t know if any of you have actually seen the episode. It’s the equivalent of making fun of wacko christians who think they see Jesus’ image in a piece of toast or on the windshield of their car.

As a follower of Jesus the Christ, I find this offensive beyond words. I read about it last night. I will not tell you what I wish happens to him. It is up to God. He will do a good job of making David VERY, VERY uncomfortable.

Hey Pat… have you ever witnessed a “miracle” such as seeing the image of Jesus on an item of food or in the condensation forming on a window? Just curious…

Some of these trolls need to find a new bridge. They say “he was on medication.” Now, personally, I always keep my pictures of Jesus on the floor in my bathroom. Jesus often gets tears when I “miss” the bowl. What a bunch of maroons.

It’s art. Who cares.
Jesus is an easy target for the Jew Larry David. Why not make the target Muhammad? That would be bold.

No, it is not necessary for me. The miracle I have seen has been His grace to me during my life. Words cannot express my love for Jesus the Christ and gratitude for the wonderful life He has given me.
I see a miracle every morning when the sun rises and in the evening when the quiet darkness falls. I see a miracle every time I look at a child. I see a miracle in the beauty of a rose. I see a miracle when I look at my beloved dog. I see a miracle in an apple tree or a grapevine.
Have you ever seen a miracle?

Offensive? Yes. Expected? Yes. Does it matter? No.
Look at all that is happening concerning Faith in America. This trend has been going on starting a little after Jesus was crucified. The Truth is the biggest lightning rod there is. It’s sad that this comedian has so little imagination that he needed to choose this topic. Sad that it draws a crowd. He needs to attack what he is afraid of.

My comment did not say I wish it was Islam that was somehow insulted.
But now that I think about it, wouldn’t that be great? True Christians know that what this Jew did doesn’t effect our relationship with God. We know that it is part of the ongoing effort of atheists and secular Jews to rub our faces in everything that they think the 1st amendment allows of them. But as much as secular Jews, and many religious Jews hate Christians, they fear and respect Muslims. The same cowardice that made Jews like George Soros sell out their own people to the Nazis makes them think that there is nothing wrong with selling out to the Muslims, as long as they can get the Muslims to go after Christians first.
No word yet on whether there have been any credible offers to help the Muslims harvest our gold teeth.

You know what I love about Christianity? Jesus is able to take care of Himself and me. That means I don’t have to cut off Larry David’s head, burn the Saudi flag, shout ‘death to Iran’, march and scream, or do any of the idiotic (from my standpoint) things that would scare the crap out of Larry David and other leftist anti-Christians. Judgment belongs to God, so I leave Larry David in His hands.

Smarty, your comment positively reeks.

@ff11:
So, you weren’t bothered in the slightest at the violence, destruction, and murder perpetrated in response to freedom of artistic expression?
Did you admonish the outraged Muslims in the same way you are doing so here?
I was outraged by neither. As I’ve said (several times), my God is bigger than fools such as Larry David, and I know that He will be glorified in the end.
I do, however, find fascinating the comparison of the reaction of liberal hypocrites (such as you) to this incident versus the Mohammad cartoon incident.

@ff11:
For the record, I do not condone Thumper’s reaction. It is not Christ-like, and I believe it is in the extreme minority.
But, having said that, I would like to take the opportunity to correct one of your flawed assumptions:
The “Mohammad cartoon” incident is nothing like this incident. The Muslims were offended by the mere depiction of Mohammad, regardless of the context of that depiction.
Christians are not offended by a painting of Jesus.
The “Mohammad cartoons” were a political statement regarding the link between Islam and terrorism. I am far more offended by the murder of hundreds of thousands of innocent people at the hands of Muslim terrorists than I am of a political statement.
The current issue is an actual desecration of a painting religious figure – an item intended to revere that figure.
I would be equally offended if someone were to similarly desecrate a similarly reverent depiction of Mohammad.
A cartoon making a political statement? Not so much.
Intellectually speaking, you need to learn how not to bring Nerf bat to a gunfight.

@Joe:
Jews attacking Christians are biting the hand that feeds them – figuratively and literally.
Nobody on the entire planet supports Israel’s right to exist more than Christians.
So, don’t try to turn this into something it isn’t.
There are many, many ways to make that comedic point without desecrating a portrait of Jesus. The chosen method was intentional.
Besides, o Tolerant Liberal Joe: shouldn’t we be tolerant of those “wacko christians [sic]” rather than make fun of them?
Why is it acceptable, for Tolerant Liberals, to make fun of Christianity, when making fun of any other group or belief is absolutely not tolerated?
Hypocrite.

“Besides, o Tolerant Liberal Joe: shouldn’t we be tolerant of those “wacko christians [sic]” rather than make fun of them?”
I am not tolerant of wacko christians. Why should i be? Because I am not a “conservative”? That makes no sense.

You’ve misstated the facts. Check out the Jewish Internet Defense Force (JIDF) and their take on it:

@Brian Cuban:
There is no mis-statement of fact. Larry David pissed on a portrait of Jesus Christ.
Now, if this were an *actual* event, then the reaction would be quite different. But this was a so-called “comedy” bit, explicitly written to be enacted as it was.
That means that the writer – i.e. Larry David – intentionally chose to use the depiction of urinating on a portrait of Jesus Christ.
Why are you liberals all so obtuse? (That’s a rhetorical question. You choose to be obtuse.)
