I was picking out a birthday card for a family member this weekend at Walgreens when I saw these conservative-bashing cards…
The Sarah Palin-bashing birthday card:

“I can totally see it from my house.”
This, of course, is a spinoff from SNL’s Palin smear that she could see Russia from her house.
And, of course they are still pushing the Bush-bashing card–

“We just got 100 Brazillian troops to finish up in Iraq.”
(They misspelled Brazilian.)

“How much is a Brazillion?”
On the other hand, the Obama cards were positive and celebrated hopenchange.
How sad. We’re not even safe from their filthy propaganda in a greeting card aisle.

Bush OWNS their butts. They whine and snivel – and he ignores them.

Let’s ask the Obama supporters:
What did Sarah Palin ever do that’s comparable to the failure of TARP; the failure of HAMP; the failure of the stimulus legislation; the ordained-to-fail health-care “reform” which will not be deficit neutral and which will reduce our quality of life; the ordained-to-fail cap and trade; the failed Iran policy; the failed Russia policy; the nearing-to-failure Afghanistan policy; the failed policies toward all our allies; and the failed Israeli-Palestinian policy?
Let us know why she’s the idiot, while our utter failure of a president is the smart one.

It’s the free market. If people weren’t buying them, the greeting card companies wouldn’t be selling them.
Or if you think there’s a lot of demand for cards making fun of Obama, you should start producing them.

I’ll answer that hypogean…
They hate her because she an intelligent, beautiful, white Christian woman who has worked really hard and is very successful. It just burns their asses that a person can make a lot of sense and not have a degree from some Ivy League college, to them, it’s not possible. To liberals, it’s all about materialistic things and “status”.

Guess Who has a point. It’s the free market, and there’s a market for crap like this among the drones of the left. It’s a way of distracting themselves from thinking about what a miserable failure this president has been.
Most likely, though, any attempts to market anti-Obama cards would be met with cries of “racist” from the left. They only believe in the free market when they’re the ones selling.

The Left controls the culture: they’ve decided it’s okay to denigrate Bush, but unseemly to mock Obama.
Culture precedes politics. Which explains why even on issues where conservative policy is demonstrably superior, Leftist cant prevails.

I saw the same thing and simply complained to the manager. He agreed the cards were offensive and I watched him remove them from the stand. I guess he could be putting them back right now, but in all honesty, the cards represented about $15 total revenue for the store. My changing my prescriptions to another drugstore, which I was ready and willing to do would probably cost them more than they would make off of those cards over the course of the year (if not the decade!).

Who cares what the left says, as long as people buy them?
Right, because public perception doesn’t affect sales at all. Because stores totally ignore cries of racism, threatened boycotts, and bad publicity.
Are you going to walk away from a surefire profitable opportunity simply because some liberals are going to call you a racist?
????
Who are you talking to? Do you think I’m some greeting cards magnate?
Oh, and while I’m a liberal who voted for Obama,
Nooooooo. Really?
I still think there are plenty of things you could make fun of him for that have nothing to do with race. So have at it, enterprising Republicans.
I’m reminded of the Whole Foods boycott a few weeks ago. The president of that company dared to make suggestions that the left didn’t like. The results? Incredible amounts of bad publicity, and a boycott by the very people who praised the company only a short time before.
Don’t give me this crap, Guess Who. Your side is hypersensitive to criticism of your empty suit of a president. Companies are vulnerable to charges of racism, and you liberals use that charge as your main weapon of choice nowadays. Few companies are willing to risk even a charge of racism. So that conservative greeting card company will find few markets for its anti-Obama products.
Which suits you just fine.
October 25th, 2009 | 10:14 pm | #48
Who are you talking to? Do you think I’m some greeting cards magnate?
How hard do you think it is to produce your own greeting cards? LaduePundit makes his own at home. Go to a Kinko’s or a commercial printer and I’m sure it would be pretty easy to make them in bulk. Especially if you’ve got such a surefire moneymaker as conservative-themed greeting cards.
And by the way, the stores around here were selling anti-Clinton cards well into Bush’s presidency. They probably still are…and that’s in blue-as-the-sky New York City.
Right, because public perception doesn’t affect sales at all. Because stores totally ignore cries of racism, threatened boycotts, and bad publicity.
Well then, organize boycotts of the stores that sell anti-Bush and anti-Palin cards and see how many people show up. Rally the “tea party-goers” if you want.
I’m reminded of the Whole Foods boycott a few weeks ago. The president of that company dared to make suggestions that the left didn’t like. The results? Incredible amounts of bad publicity, and a boycott by the very people who praised the company only a short time before.
And few people showed up for the boycotts, nobody that I know of accused Whole Foods of racism, the CEO did not publicly retract his views, his supporters even organized “buycotts”, the company does not appear to have lost any significant revenue, and the whole thing blew over. So in what way does this remind you of that, other than in a way that completely supports my point?
Companies are vulnerable to charges of racism, and you liberals use that charge as your main weapon of choice nowadays. Few companies are willing to risk even a charge of racism. So that conservative greeting card company will find few markets for its anti-Obama products.
So basically, what you’re saying is that nobody on your side has enough courage of their convictions to stand up against baseless charges of racism?

So because I think whining about a greeting card with a leftist slant is trivial and not worth bothering with, I’m a “leftist wank”? Well I guess you’re a drama queen as well. Actually I’m a libertarian who’s spend most of his adult life fighting the left. On important issues, not greeting cards, t-shirts, posters or badges. The point is, Jim Hoft discredits his blog by expressing over dramatic outrage over completely stupid things like this. Other posters have said it right – the issue here is freedom, the free market, capitalism…values that conservatives should respect but all too often don’t. This is America, the epicenter of free speech. Nobody is off limits when it comes to mockery or criticism, even (believe it or not) Sarah Palin. If some leftist douchebags want to market a card mocking Sarah and make money out of it then good luck to them. It doesn’t affect any important issue in any shape or form.
In case you hadn’t noticed, a bunch of Marxists have infiltrated our government and are in the process of dismantling everything America stands for. Greetings cards are about as important to the fight as a gnat’s fart.

Unfortunately, yes. And in doing so you betrayed a disrespect for the most important principle of civilization: the right of property. To be honest many contributors to this thread sound to me no better than the left and it’s surprising, since it’s usually the left which throws tantrums and tears things up. When I think of political vandals and silencers of free speech I think of young dumb leftists, not conservatives or libertarians.
And of course if the situation were reversed and liberals were throwing a hissy fit over some conservative greetings cards and talking about taking them off the shelves and ripping them up, think how you’d react.. That’s right – this thread would be full of comments about how liberals can’t handle free speech, how they’re showing their weakness by getting upset over nothing, etc. Be honest.

If it were me I would have grabbed a shopping cart, filled it full of merchandise that I had bought over the last year or had planned to buy on that trip. I would have wheeled it up to the front of the store and asked to speak to the manager.
When said manager arrived I would have handed him/her those greeting cards and said “See the contents of this cart? Thanks to your store carrying these “greeting cards” the items in this cart will be bought elsewhere. Yes, you have the right to carry whatever merchandise you wish, I have the right to shop elsewhere which I shall do from now on.” I would have then walked out of that store and never darken it’s doors again.

In no way. Sheesh, you’re dense. I wasn’t talking about the success of the boycott. I was talking about the fact that the reaction of your side to criticism (even mild criticism), of Obama is, well, to overreact. Scream racism. Boycott.
Saturday Night Live dared to make fun of the president, and CNN fact-checked their skit.

And yes, capitalism is STILL alive and well in this country so that 40+% of the country that now call themselves conservatives will NOT BE SHOPPING AT WALGREENS. And 36% who call themselves moderates, well we’ll just see.

Saw some Halloween cards at Target last night. One bashing Bush and two celebrating Obama. My wife wanted to complain to the store, but I told her to complain to the card company.
Complaining to the store over something like this is silly. One reason that we textbooks are so watered down is that people kept complaining about what was in the books. Read “The Language Police” for a better understandig of how this escalates.
I will say something if it is obscene and placed where families or children can see it. I once asked a store manager to read the cover Cosmopolitan over the store loudspeaker if it wasn’t obscene. He understood my point pretty quickly and covered up the magazines except for the title (which is fine).
Regrarding the cards, let the stores stock them and let the unsold ones be returned to the cad company.
