Hillary prayed at the shrine of the Muslim saint Muhammad Iqbal in Lahore today.
hillary praying
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, second right, prays together with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, right, in front of the grave of the Poet Muhammad Iqbal, at the Iqbal Memorial in Lahore, Pakistan, Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009. Clinton is on a three-day state visit to Pakistan. (AP)

Hillary also bashed Bush while she was speaking to university students.
The AP reported, via NewsBusters:

As a way of repudiating past U.S. policies toward Pakistan, Clinton told the students “there is a huge difference” between the Obama administration’s approach and that of former President George W. Bush. “I spent my entire eight years in the Senate opposing him,” she said to a burst of applause from the audience of several hundred students. “So, to me, it’s like daylight and dark.”

    Have these people no shame?
    oh wait….
I do not understand how a Christain or a Jew could pray or even give the impression of praying in a Muslim place. Well, on second thought, I guess I would pray but if I was Hillary or any American woman there is no way I would wear a head scarf.
I find this incredibly sick. Just like Obama bowing.

It is inappropriate for the Secretary of State on an official visit to pray at the site of a Muslim “saint” — just as it would be inappropriate for the Secretary on official trip to pray at St. Peter’s in the Vatican or the Western Wall in Jerusalem. In these settings, on an official visit, she is not Hillary Clinton she is the United States of America.

But I’m willing to bet that if she visited Rome or Jerusalem she would not be seen praying at either St. Peter’s or the Wall.

    Useful idiot alert.

Good to see such a dhimmi attitude from this fraud….as if such an attitude will actually work. It’s easy for ‘useful idiots’ such as this to project the blame on someone like Bush…makes them look ‘good’ whilst at the same time releasing them from ‘any blame’ whatsoever regarding the topic of terrorism, AFG, etc.

    What a tool.

PS NICE get up, Hillary……next time try the BURQA and do us all a favour.

I was just reading an article on Debbie Schlussel about terror arrests and the killing of an iman yesterday. The article is a little convuluted but I suppose that is indictaive of the Muslim issue in Dearborn.
It’s a worthwhile read and after reading the picture of Hillary is even more ridiculous.
Check it out. We have a huge problem in this country, no one is really talking about and seeing Hillary praying to some Muslim something or other just illustrates what an impotent joke we are.

Head covering is not a real issue. Praying to a muslim saint (I didn’t know there were any) is. Those writers who say she is representing the US are 100% correct. As such, she should visit (wear appropriate cloting if required) and that’s it. The message taken away from this by the rest of the Islamic world is that the US government is basically Islamic. It only fuels their belief that we, as a country, should not exist.

    RedwineNo Gravatar

It’s not the head covering. This is done out of respect. It’s the prayer gesture that’s so disturbing. She’s making the gesture imitating Islamic practice. (Or is it for real?) When you go to the Western Wall or the Vatican, you dress and behave modestly. You might leave a note with a prayer or wish at the Wall, but you don’t pray.

The Vatican is not Rome, it’s a sovereign state. True, a woman does not have to cover her head in Rome or in the Vatican; however, there is something called protocol for an audience with the Pope – black dress (which in Europe was traditionally used for official affairs) and head covering… usually some sort of veil or mantilla.
Although I don’t support Hillary, she was following protocol in wearing the hijab.

Now as to her bashing Bush and saying she was always against him… that’s a lie (so what else is new with this administration and most politicians) … she opposed him when she wasn’t supporting him, as in voting for going into Iraq.

Well, for all we know she is praying to Jehovah God in the name of Jesus for the Muslim peoples to reject Islam and experience salvation through Christ.

However, and this is a big however, it is impossible for us to know beyond doubt what is in her mind and heart. If she is just mimicking her Muslim hosts for political reasons, it seems plausible that they would view that as hypocritical or worse.

No, this is all wrong. There isn’t something I’m missing. Looking at her, with her hands like that – that is just wrong.

You don’t pray at other people’s shrines with your hands like that if you don’t share their religion.

I agree with the earlier poster – they are likely to view this as hypocritical or deliberately deceitful. (Or, with luck, just foolish and entirely ignorant of protocol.)

She could wear a neat little hat and cover her head for cultural sensitivity without submitting.
The cultural ignorance here is jaw-dropping, but many Hillary supporters don’t know how this stuff works, so they delude themselves into thinking “what’s the big deal?”
There are ways to finesse this, ESPECIALLY if one is in at OFFICIAL function. Ceremonial niceities are engineered to show respect without betraying one’s self or nation. Touring around important national sites is standard official duties for State Department. Hillary ignoring or kicked out the career protocol people or what?
It’d be hilarious if it wasn’t for the fact she’s the FACE of US Foreign Policy, so it’s pathetic. Since Hillary doesn’t know squat about actual religions, she looks like a Hindu praying at a Muslim shrine.
Brilliant! Then she’ll show up here with Bill’s chunk-a-lunk display Bible or a rolled up Torah over her shoulder, cause she carries one around in her purse “all the time, you know?” Yah! We’re fooled!

    It’s pathetic…

    1. Sec. Hillary Clinton is being utterly dishonest by saying, “I spent my entire eight years in the Senate opposing him (GW Bush)”. No, in fact she voted for the use of force in Iraq, authorizing the mission, in full support of the Bush Administration, using some of the most aggressive language in the Senate to justify this Military Operation.

    2. Sec. Hillary Clinton again provides the overwhelming hypocrisy the Democratic Party has now become famous for, as the evidence shows the Clinton Administration – President Bill Clinton, refused to take custody of Osama Bin Laden on at least two known separate occasions. How dare Mrs. Clinton be critical of the Pakistani Government in this sophomoric manner, complaining about their failures to capture or kill Al Qaeda terrorists?

    3. Sec. Hillary Clinton reveals a bizarre sense of ignorance regarding the current state of the GWOT. It could be another a poor attempt to distort the record of the prior Administration’s efforts in capturing and killing Al Qaeda, implying falsely no one who was behind 9-11 has been brought to justice. It is estimated, the Bush Administration eliminated some 75% of Al Qaeda after 9-11. But maybe this Obama Cabinet Member who is a principal “smart power” player, simply does not know who is currently being held in Guantanamo Bay. Perhaps Hillary Clinton doesn’t even know who Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is? The self-described mastermind of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon?

Well, I’m not a big fan of any religion, but as someone who has studied them all, I can tell you that her hands are held in a stuided Christian pose. You can see that the Muslims in the picture are holding their hands differently.

I’m pretty sure that most Christians agree that you can pray anywhere you damn well please, whether you’re standing in your own religious institution or not. So I hardly think she’s “praying at a different religion”, as one mouthbreather in this comment thread suggested.

In International Diplomacy, poses and pictures have consequences. Hillary does NOT understand this. She has no background in international relations and obviously doesn’t do her homework, too smart evidently for mere studying, and thus, looks like a WEAK, NO-NOTHING APPEASER.
She should be studying how Queen Elizabeth handles these things. How about Prince -What’s his name – Charles. Hands clasped BEHIND the back, looking politely interested.
And astute diplomats REFUSE all sorts of photo opportunities if they think the occasions are not appropriate. THIS occasion could have been declined politely for some other photo op, like a children’s school, a safe, perennial favorite.
Hillary is NOT there for her own ego; she is SUPPOSED to be representing the USA. Hillary does not have any sense as to what to do or not do.
Americans were not well-served by that scene, not at all. Which will be broadcast and printed all over the Arab and Muslim world.

Now hold on folks. How is it that you all are so uptight and outraged? John Paul II kissed the Holy Koran and invited Muslims as well as witch doctors and a whole variety of pagans to pray to their gods in Catholic Churches (world day of Assisi). Vatican II says that Muslims worship the same God as Christians. Mother Theresa wanted people to become better Muslims, Hindus, etc. and had little interest in converting people to Christ. So what gives? What’s with the hypocrisy?

    Stacy, you say:

“Christians don’t pray to Muslim shrines. If Hillary was ever a real Christian, she has apostatized herself.

That would make both Pope JPII and Benedict XVI apostates and arguably Mother Theresa as well. In fact, that would make the Roman Church apostate as well.

Christian, Muslin, Jew, Pagan, Hindu – its all the same, the sooner people realize it the less death and destruction in the name of god there will be. Religion is no different than rooting for your favorite sports team although a lot of people seem to die in war for no apparent reason based on religious Bull S*. For those that think I overstate it, try to explain/justify the Salem witch trials, the inquisition, the crusades, the middle east conflicts, the Vatican’s actions during WW II or any of the other myriad of religious conflicts and massacres all fought over whether or not someone was on the correct team. Pitiful to read the comments from so called “spiritual” or “pious” types damning/condemning anyone and everyone who has views/beliefs different then their own. You’re no different than the pathetic islamic radicals who believe only their religion is correct.

    @Joseph Schneider

There is a clear litmus test for whether or not someone is actually Christian or is motivated by political correctness. Christ warned to ‘beware of false prophets.’ By that definition, Mohamed is a false prophet and Islam is the result of false, if not more likely Satanic influence. If one believes that Islam is based on the same God as Christianity and Judaism, than one diverts from biblical teaching, either out of political correctness or out of a belief in ‘harmony,’ seemingly forgetting the concept of Hell. The Koran itself is a bastardization of the Old Testament/Torah which leads me to believe that it is Satanically inspired.

In short, if you believe Islam to be on the same level as Judaism and Christianity, your not a Christian.

To all the haters: Did Mary, mother of Jesus Christ, not wear head scarf. Don’t your nuns coverup? Whats wrong if Hillary did it to pay respect at a holy place.

As for paying respects at a muslim shrine, this is not the shrine of any ordinary person. It is the tomb of the poet-philosopher who dreamed Pakistan into existence. Iqbal was knighted by the British monarch for his majestic poetry. Here I share a translation of a few lines of his from Asrar-e-Khudi (Secrets of the Self):

The loveliness of Shirin justifies the anguish of Farhad.
One fragrant navel justifies a hundred musk-deer.

‘Tis the fate of moths to consume in flame:
The suffering of moths is justified by the candle.

The pencil of the Self limped a hundred to-days
In order to achieve the dawn of a single morrow.

“That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.” – Isaiah 45:6

You make me laugh, you know that is from the Jewish holy books?

Christians who read that and dont become Jews are just completely wacky creatures.

    Stephen,

So you are saying that the Roman Catholic Church is not a christian church? That Pope John Paul II was not a true Christian?

    From Vatican II:

    “But the
    * plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in
    * the first place amongst whom are the Moslems: these profess to hold
    * the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one,
    * merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day. “

    More from Vatican II:

“3. The Church has also a high regard for the Muslims. They worship
    * God, who is one, living and subsistent, merciful and almighty, the
    * Creator of heaven and earth,[1] who has also spoken to men. They
    * strive to submit themselves without reserve to the bidden decrees of
    * God, just as Abraham submitted himself to God’s plan, to whose faith
    * Muslims eagerly link their own. Although not acknowledging him as God,
    * they worship Jesus as a prophet, his virgin Mother they also honor,
    * and even at times devoutly invoke. Further, they await the day of
    * judgment and the reward of God following the resurrection of the dead.
    * For this reason they highly esteem an upright life and worship God,
    * especially by way of prayer, alms-deeds and fasting.
    *
    * Over the centuries many quarrels and dissensions have arisen between
    * Christians and Muslims. The sacred Council now pleads with all to
    * forget the past, and urges that a sincere effort be made to achieve
    * mutual understanding; for the benefit of all men, let them together
    * preserve and promote peace, liberty, social justice and moral values.”

Disgraceful! Is there anyone with so much as an ounce, a thimble full of brains in this administration? Pandering to islamist’s will not win points for America. There might be enormous gain by hillary’s choices while in the presence of her muslim hosts…of course, the “gain” is “all” theirs.
We need to boot these idiots out of Washington and get someone, anyone, with an ants worth of intelligence in office. I could be completely wrong though….what if they are not “idiots?” What if, what if….? That alternative is looking more and more plausible by the hour.

    Teri,

Should we boot all those folks out of the Vatican II? You know, the VII council fathers who pandered to Islamicists?

Seriously, this is a Catholic journal. If the Catholic Church could teach positive things about Islam and if the Popes could pay respect to Islam, even going beyond what I could do (kissing the Koran), then why the outrage when someone who isn’t even Catholic prays and shows respect at a Muslim grave? No one has answered my question yet.
