Unless you’re in Afghanistan.
obama navy
U.S. President Barack Obama arrives to speak to servicemen and women at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, in Jacksonville, Florida, October 26, 2009. (REUTERS/Jim Young)

He said this with a straight face…
Obama told the troops today that he won’t risk their lives unless necessary and then,
“If it is necessary, we will back you up to the hilt.”
That is, unless you are already serving in harms way.
In that case the president will dither and waffle for months before he decides to send support.
Reuters reported:

President Barack Obama, accused by some of dithering over a new strategy for Afghanistan, vowed on Monday not to be rushed into a decision over whether to send more U.S. troops to the war zone.

Obama spoke to U.S. Navy personnel in Jacksonville on the same day 14 Americans were killed in helicopter crashes in Afghanistan and shortly after he met top advisers for a sixth time about a new Afghan strategy the White House said was still weeks away.

Just last week, the White House rejected former Vice President Dick Cheney’s charge that Obama was “dithering” over the strategy review and needed to send more U.S. troops to Afghanistan.

“I will never rush the solemn decision of sending you into harm’s way,” Obama said to applause from the sailors at the event and their families. “I won’t risk your lives unless it is absolutely necessary. And if it is necessary, we will back you up to the hilt.”

You lie.

In order to assess this commitment, we will require the precise White House definitions of:
    “absolutely necessary”
    and
    “necessary”
    and
    “to the hilt”
Doubtful they are the same as found in Webster’s.

And you can count on him treating this just as solemnly as he does his campaign promises….. I think what bothers me most about this guy is how stupid he must think we are, that he can just throw bald faced lie after bald faced lie out there, and yet he thinks we cannot see it……

He’s already risking lives. He’s sitting on McChrystal’s troop request – needlessly – and promises “not to rush his decision”. I’m thinking those troops already over there are wishing he’d ponder just a bit faster.

    Is this guy for real?

“I won’t risk your lives unless it is absolutely necessary.”

I guess it must be absolutely necessary because he is risking the troops lives right now over in Afghanistan by taking his own sweet time with making a decision to send more troops or not…..I think he must be leaning on the ‘or not’ side.

Military courtesy to the commander-in-chief is one thing. Given previous actions, accepting that declaration even at face value is another.

The man is unfit to serve as Commander-In-Chief of The Armed Forces of The United States of America.

It is time for all veterans to stand up and say NO MORE !

All veterans, please contact all your former mates and wake them up….. especially contact those who say they are veterans for “him”.

It’s disgusting how he continues to show boat. Having our military act as back drops to his latest photo op. Military morale is down, they need a Commander In Chief, not a community organizer who can give a good speech. It’s about time he realizes that both wars are now HIS and it’s high time we start making him accountable for them. Enough campaigning and photo ops, either start leading, start governing or move over and let someone who will into the oval office. It’s getting to the point where enough is just enough.

In liberal land, backing to the “hilt” must mean ignoring the advice of the General that Obama put into place to enact Obama’s original strategy that he laid out in March but now has now idea what to do just a few months later.

Viet Nam will be considered a success compared to what Mr. 57 states is going to do in Afghanistan.

But hey….look at the Bright side.
Obama’s golf game is getting better:

President Obama ties George W. Bush on Golf

    http://www.politico.com/click/stories/0910/obama_ties_bush_on_golf.html

President Barack Obama has only been in office for just over nine months, but he’s already hit the links as much as President Bush did in over two years.

CBS’ Mark Knoller — an unofficial documentarian and statistician of all things White House-related — wrote on his Twitter feed that, “Today – Obama ties Pres. Bush in the number of rounds of golf played in office: 24.

I believe Obama has met with “his General” McCrystal about twice since he implemented “his” own plan in March .

Is that the Hanoi Hilton he’s talking about?

Maybe he is going to give some more of the Americans tax payers money to give to the taliban so they won’t shoot our soldiers and bomb civilians and governments.

With the present amateurs, unqualified to make global decision about war,in this admin, I want our soldiers to leave that place. There are 1.5 billion muslims in the world; if they don’t want Sharia Law, the Taliban, the Al Qeada or the Sunnis in charge then let them fight their own
dirty bloody wars. They want us there to fill their own deep pockets at our expense.

With a ragtag bunch of camel riders since the 7th century and the Ottoman Empire they have managed without our help to take over, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Iran, the -Stan countries, half the countries of Africa; now they are working on the Western European countries and North Amercian, Central America and the Balkans, Indonesia, Somao and on….What does it take for a civilized society understand, these savages only live and thirst for blood, power and control; they are unsatiable.

Here is what bothers me about the Obama administration with regards to Afghanistan. I believe these is a case to be made for scaling down our forces, but this point is for later. Obama campaigned that Afghanistan was the “correct” war. Anyone with any familiarity of this conflict knows that the situation inAfghanistan has been deteriorating for years. Above all things else, I despise people who play politics with the army. President Obama needed to address the American people early on in his administration about the situation in Afghanistan. If he would have leveled with us, honest and fair minded people would have supported it. But by waiting he is inviting this crticism onto himself and it is justifible crticism in my book. One crticism I do have of the previous administartion is that for whatever reason, they also were never forthright about Afghanistan backsliding. In The Corner today in The National Review, Micheal Yon taks about part of the reason is the US continued support of Karzai whose administration is filled with corruption. One failure of the Bush administartion was the reliance on Karzai, a hugely unpopular figure within Afgahnistan. President Obama needs to go infront of the American people and level with us…much Like President Bush did with the Surge

Our troops swear an oath to protect and defend us against all enemies. When called, they don’t get to ask questions, they don’t get to decide whether it’s necessary, they just go. The President is their Commander-in-Chief; wherever they go and whatever they’re told to do, it was his decision. If they are someplace where their lives are at risk, I would hope to God he had decided it was necessary before he sent them or that he decided it was necessary to leave them there. If he puts them at risk unnecessarily, or leaves them at risk unnecessarily, he is unfit to command. If at present, he does not know whether it is necessary for them to be where they are, he should cease everything else he is doing and make that decision. Every life lost while he dithers is a life that didn’t mean anything to him.

He cut short his usual strategy meeting on Afghanistan today in order to make this trip to Florida, and the main purpose of this trip is to attend two fund-raisers, where he can bask in the adulation of sycophants. Landing in NAS Jacksonville was only for the purpose of having the taxpayers pay for the trip instead of the Democratic Party.

This man is unfit to be CIC, as Kenny Soloman said. But we knew that a long time ago.

It’s because the only thing he cares about is his political life. He cares nothing for the lives of any other men, women — or children.

He voted “present” nearly 130 times in the Illinois state senate. But he also changed votes numerous times when his vote became unpopular, even saying the ridiculous, “Oops. I didn’t mean to push that button.”

Two critical races are coming up next month. He doesn’t want them to reflect his growing unpopularity. And so the troops wait for the aid they desperately need. He’d “dither” ’til after the 2010 elections if he could. Still better, the 2012 elections.

There was only one thing he – literally – “stood for” in the state senate. He made clear his position that time. All alone he was, voicing his loud, unflinching approval for the death of infants. Not just once, but four times. Their sin? They had the temerity to be born alive following botched abortions.

Amazingly, that “courageous” stand never hurt him politically. But it revealed something chilling about the man. Life means nothing to him.

And that he’s the last man who should be leading a nation’s best.

“If it is necessary, we will back you up to the hilt.”

Obama’s not convinced that prevailing in Afghanistan is necessary. There are far more important issues at hand, such as golfing, taking Michelle out on date night, ramming socialized healthcare down the throats of the American people, making sure terrorists at Guantanamo Bay receive proper legal recourse, strategizing with leftwing media personnel, and on and on.

Evidently the lesson of terror sanctuaries has been lost upon Barry. Apparently he doesn’t have a problem when a populace is subjegated by others.

Maybe he privately envies the Taliban for their ability to implement an agenda and get the people to capitulate.

We need to go back to the dithering our last admin did. That was better….bleeding money at a faster rate, more troops died. I like how they fought wars. Shoot and then decide.

Surely Obama will back the troops if he can figure out a way to make himself look good while backing them.

The problem is that Obama wants to make himself look good to Castro and the last Communists/socialists of the world.

Total gibberish. Blithering infantilism. It’s as though an orangutan typed this. On second thought an orangutan would make more sense.

You guys are all awesome armchair qbs in a war we know nothing about.

Speak for yourself, dummy. I know plenty about Operation Enduring Freedom. You could know about it, too, if you bothered to inform yourself. There’s tons of information out there.

WOW! People finally realize the real war is Afghanistan! Unfortunately we were screwing around in Iraq. Should have had all the troops in Afghanistan not split between the two.

The WAR is against Islamofascism terrorism, an “assymetrical” war in that Islamofascists can wage war in or about a number of nations without any nation explicitly declaring war, in some cases proxy fighting, in some cases giving shelter and resources, in some cases a weakened nation held hostage.

The THEATERS of War in which actual front lines of battles could be formed are Afghanistan and Iraq. Other Theatres of war are covert, intelligence, and even battles on the financial front lines – identifying and tracking the billions funding Islamofascist insurgencies, who’s paying, who’s getting the payment, and for what purpose.

This was articulated very early on by the Bush Adminstration, but has been screeched over by the Left to alter the terms of debate, claiming a “war in Afghanistan” and another “war in Iraq.”

Tantruming of the Left, noise, outrage, flooding calls of “racism” “intolerance” “no blood for oil” isn’t just bratty behavior, it’s a deliberate technique to overwhelm and inhibit information.

Look. Even someone as non-military minded as me can understand that THIS was the “good” war he was going to put himself into.

And we know his military leaders have long been pressing him for more people; months now.

So how does he expect us to buy this crap?

Democrats Never Meant What They Said About Afghanistan

[The average Democrat doesn't like fighting wars. They don't like using military force. They don't just dislike collateral damage and civilian casualties and flag-draped coffins; they cringe at the concept of combat with citizens of another country, even when the president has declared:

Al Qaeda and its allies — the terrorists who planned and supported the 9/11 attacks — are in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Multiple intelligence estimates have warned that al Qaeda is actively planning attacks on the United States homeland from its safe haven in Pakistan. And if the Afghan government falls to the Taliban — or allows al Qaeda to go unchallenged — that country will again be a base for terrorists who want to kill as many of our people as they possibly can.

That's not the last president; that's the current president, an entire six months ago.

Notice this only applies to the use of military force and violence overseas; as we've seen, these same folks have a very different reaction when they hear about a town-hall protester having his finger bitten off. The base of the Democratic party is fundamentally pacifist and isolationist and has extraordinary, although not complete, leverage over this White House. They want the rest of the world to go away so we can focus on creating the perfect health-care system.]

More like “I’ll shove it in, up to the hilt. And give it a twist for good measure.”
Those poor sailors. Even a former Marine feels bad for them, standing in back of that ( fill in your own Noun ).
Our Grunts die while Nero fiddles.
Get out or stay but do SOMETHING!
We had an expression: Crap or get off the pot!
I see this clown letting our troops fail by choking off their supply lines and then say that it was their fault they lost.
Or just say that it was not winnable to begin with and blame Bush … again.
    Puke.

    “EARTH TO OBAMA..

OUR TROOPS ARE IN HARMS WAY!!

how stupid are we Obama?? ”

Exactly! Even people like me can figure this out! I mean, anyone LISTENING to him could figure it out!

It’s not like he’s considering a whole new war or something. He’s considering whether to let the guys already there die without sufficient troops!

    Formidable.

Oh, now our troops are in harms way? What about when our CIC went in 1/2 a$$ed and let them blow our soldiers up for 7 years prior. Now a president that you don’t like is in it’s putting our troops in harms way. What was Rumsfeld’s quote when asked about more armor and weapons? You go into war with the army you have? Something like that.

Get every single soldier back here today. That will keep them out of harms way. But wait, will we lose are freedoms?

““I will never rush the solemn decision of sending you into harm’s way,”

“I won’t risk your lives unless it is absolutely necessary. And if it is necessary, we will back you up to the hilt.””

    Translated into plain English:

“If you are pinned down and taking saf, rpg’s, etc.. I will not allow you to get the reinforcements you need now or ever. Suck it up and die with honor on the battle field. My party ideals and agenda come before you do.”

For these pogues to applaud this charlatan is a disgraces to me and my fellow operators in country.
