“No More Politics As Usual”
palin
Sarah Palin spoke out in support of conservative Doug Hoffman tonight in New York’s 23rd District race.
Via Sarah Palin’s Facebook page:

The people of the 23rd Congressional District of New York are ready to shake things up, and Doug Hoffman is coming on strong as Election Day approaches! He needs our help now.

The votes of every member of Congress affect every American, so it’s important for all of us to pay attention to this important Congressional campaign in upstate New York. I am very pleased to announce my support for Doug Hoffman in his fight to be the next Representative from New York’s 23rd Congressional district. It’s my honor to endorse Doug and to do what I can to help him win, including having my political action committee, SarahPAC, donate to his campaign the maximum contribution allowed by law.

Our nation is at a crossroads, and this is once again a “time for choosing.”

The federal government borrows, spends, and prints too much money, while our national debt hits a record high. Government is growing while the private sector is shrinking, and unemployment is on the rise. Doug Hoffman is committed to ending the reckless spending in Washington, D.C. and the massive increase in the size and scope of the federal government. He is also fully committed to supporting our men and women in uniform as they seek to honorably complete their missions overseas.

And best of all, Doug Hoffman has not been anointed by any political machine.

Doug Hoffman stands for the principles that all Republicans should share: smaller government, lower taxes, strong national defense, and a commitment to individual liberty.

Political parties must stand for something. When Republicans were in the wilderness in the late 1970s, Ronald Reagan knew that the doctrine of “blurring the lines” between parties was not an appropriate way to win elections. Unfortunately, the Republican Party today has decided to choose a candidate who more than blurs the lines, and there is no real difference between the Democrat and the Republican in this race. This is why Doug Hoffman is running on the Conservative Party’s ticket.

Republicans and conservatives around the country are sending an important message to the Republican establishment in their outstanding grassroots support for Doug Hoffman: no more politics as usual.

Sarah gets it…
Unlike her Republican colleagues who are backing the far left Dede Scozzafava.

More… NY-23 race first test of tea party power.

This is a very exciting development. In one stroke, she has taken on the go-along-to-get-along moderate/elite Republicans such as, I am sad to say, Newt Gingrich. How could I have been so wrong about a man?

Hey Poopsicle – do you honestly think her endorsement will end his career? By “honestly” I mean, is that what you actually believe? I’m only asking because there are numerous areas in which I disagree with Mrs. Palin but I don’t evade the fact that the woman is one of the biggest stars on the planet.

What about her policy statements leads you to believe that her endorsement will end his career? Please, go ahead and be articulate.

I just sent via email Sarah’s whole statement (but with the last paragraph removed), including footnotes, to my thoroughly leftist Senator Kerry.

The Push for a sound Candidate for Congress is good in New York’s 23rd.

But, the stereotyping and rather juvenile expression about it, from the likes of a number of Conservative Pundits, associating all of the Republican Party like this vapid Scozzafava is bad.

We must remove the Majority rule of the Democrats in Washington, period.

The lackluster expression of many Conservative Pundits, who use hyperbole and vicious rhetoric, undermined the sound Conservatives within the GOP prior to 2006.

Many on the sidelines like to kick the Republican Party, but no party is perfect. And if the recent antics at CPAC are any evidence, the Conservative Punditry class is far from perfect as well.

The thing is, even with the best pointing out about the need for a change in the Republican offering in the NY 23rd, which I firmly support.

A number of Elite Celebrity Conservative Pundits are now jumping on it – (offering more angry divisive anti-GOP hype), and unless cooler heads prevail, we will all lose in the long run.

Some are just not thinking about their ripple affect, with such childish expression. The sophomoric emotion can end up undermining all.

Sound strategy is a product of basis, reason, objectivity, seriousness, etc. Expressing a constructive effort is essential.

Frustration and anger has it’s place, is healthy and understandable, but the vast ‘guilt by association’ of a tiny few in the Republican Party, with the misguided popularity followers (like McCain) is simply unfair and self defeating.

There will always be some who blow by the wind, and are lackluster in conception. The question is, how do you make a healthy, powerful wind, to blow the overwhelming majority in the right direction?

Sorry, but a number of our best Conservative Pundits, have not conceived of a truly empowering expression or strategy for the larger picture. It is all too often, gripe, snipe, debase – and leads to a rather self defeating effort.

PS: It is ironic, that Ms. Palin, a declared Maverick, who built a career as a moderate reformer and embraced John McCain, is now running to the Conservative mantra.

It is a good sign, but I hope it is not just more fashion following.

I like Ms. Palin, and she is a good force in the Republican Party and for Conservatives.

Supporting Doug Hoffman’s run is a serious strategic error for conservatives to make. If he wins and this encourages further third-party runs by “conservative” candidates, this is going to split the political allegiances of right-wing voters down the middle between Republicans and independent, non-affiliated candidates and will seriously undermine the GOP’s ability to stand as a united front against the Democratic Party. What Sarah Palin (and anybody else supporting Doug Hoffman in this race) is doing here is extremely dangerous and could have serious negative long-term consequences for the GOP. Newt Gingrich understands this and that is why he’s supporting Scozzafava. Is she the ideal Republican? Maybe not, but if Doug Hoffman or any other “conservatives” want to challenge her they should go through the proper channels and attempt to seek the Republican nomination. “Going rogue” might be an emotionally satisfying thing for disaffected conservatives who are angry with the GOP to do, but it could have disasterous real world consequences.

Brooklyn – your lecture to us left out specifics.
    What “rather juvenile expression”?
What “lackluster expression of many Conservative Pundits”?
Whose “hyperbole” and what “vicious rhetoric”?
    Were there “antics at CPAC”?
Who’s offering more “angry divisive anti-GOP hype” and what is “the ripple affect” to which you refer?

The quality of your argument suggests you’ve recently graduated from one of our more liberal universities. You seem to suggest that we should back the Republican party uncritically or we’ll lose. You may want to consider the idea that if we back the candidates that share our views, we’ll win and the “Republicans” will lose.

In any event, I’ll vote for liberty and die trying.

Sarah Palin just scares the dickins out of the Washington elite, and I say good on you Sarah.

I just wish that people would not try to judge Sarah by listening to her detractors as if what they say is gospel, remember the one they fear the most is the one they attack.

The tea parties have told the Newt’s of the world nothing it seems. Maybe it’s time he steps down and retires, we obviously need new blood and fresh approach. Sarah fits that bill.

Supporting Doug Hoffman’s run is a serious strategic error for conservatives to make.

It could be. On the other hand, it could encourage the GOP to finally start choosing candidates who adhere to the principles of the party. The electorate will not vote for big-government Republicans, as proven by the 2006 and 2008 elections, so the GOP is destined to lose anyway if it continues to field candidates like Dede Scozzafava.

This is an experiment, and one that may turn out to be very beneficial. Let’s see what happens before we do a post mortem on it.

    Paul_In_HoustonNo Gravatar
    October 22nd, 2009 | 10:06 pm | #26

Newt Gingrich understands this and that is why he’s supporting Scozzafava.

If the candidate you are fielding as a Republican is actually a Liberal Democrat Lite, why in hell wouldn’t the voters decide they might as well go with the real thing?

Sorry Whitey; but I see no hope at all for us if our strategy is to oppose with only slightly blander versions of what we are fighting.

    In for $25.

I have been a Republican loyalist since 1979. I knew they weren’t perfect, but if they had an “R” after the name, they always had my vote.

I recall former Democrats in the Reagan era like Jeanne Kirkpatrick saying things like “I didn’t leave the Democrat Party, the Democrat Party left me.”

Today I find myself standing where I’ve always stood, and I’m watching the GOP walk away from me.

This is a special election. As I understand it there was no primary. This was a backroom deal by the local Republican party. This lady looks like a Democrat in disguise poised to take over a fairly conservative Republican District. If a moderate wins a Republican primary ( i.e . Voters select the moderate) fine. Elections have consequences, but I see no reasons other Republicans should defer to the misguided choices of a misguided elite.

“Is she the ideal Republican? Maybe not”
MAYBE NOT? DID YOU SAY MAYBE NOT?
This is why we keep getting these candidates and the Republican Party is becoming irrlevant.
Dede was selected by the Party brass, there was no primary for Hoffman to win. The local party officials obviously believe she was the best and most electable choice; and that my friend is the problem that the Republicans are faced with nationally. Just remember, McCain was supposed to be the candidate that could beat Obama. He was behind until Palin joined the ticket. Had she been at the top, and not had the McCain machine trying to denigrate her, she might be president.

The referenced dangerous consequence has already occurred. Gingrich, McCain and the rest –with media available to them 24/7 via which they could have warned us–, chose to preside over the loss of our country to Goldman Sachs and Soros. Decades of work and sacrifice by our citizens have been lost. The sub prime scam which enriched Goldman, Soros, and others, could have been easily stopped. Global warming cap and trade scams and lobbyists have been well entrenched in the beltway for several years. Gingrich, McCain and pals, instead of stopping these obvious crimes, danced across the globe, promoted a book on global warming, selling us out day after day, year in and year out, laughing at us, without a single thought of us. This doesn’t begin to get to the well beaten cliche of ‘ideology’ that the corrupt GOP and the media want to keep alive. I’m first concerned about getting someone who won’t knife me in the back and laugh about it.
