Four police officers were shot and killed Sunday morning in what authorities called a targeted ambush at a coffee house in Lakeland, Washington.
There were two employees and a few other customers in the shop.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported:
The four officers — three men and one woman — were about to go to work, Troyer said. Authorities were looking for a suspect: a black man between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-11. He was believed to be in his 20s or 30s and was described as being scruffy in appearance, with a black coat and black jeans.The coffee shop is near McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, about 35 miles south of Seattle.
Roads were blocked around the attack site. Dave Gabrielson, a clerk at Foot Mart about a block away from the coffee shop, told The News-Tribune of Tacoma that all was quiet when he opened the store at 8 a.m. About 30 minutes later, “All of a sudden a million cops were zooming up and down the road,” Gabrielson said.

Violent felon granted clemency by Huckabee now sought in Lakewood, WA police ambush

The man being sought by police was granted clemency by former GOP Arkansas Mike Huckabee despite his violent history and vehement protestations from prosecutors and victims’ family members.
He was most recently in jail for alleged second-degree rape of a child.
This isn’t Huckabee’s first Horton moment.
The suspect was released from custody just six days ago in Washington on second degree rape charges.
UPDATE: The suspect Clemmons may be shot and or dead.
The AP reported:
Police say a suspect in the coffee-shop slayings of four officers is holed up at a Seattle house, wounded and possibly dead.
Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says negotiators are still trying to communicate with Maurice Clemmons.

If you go to the Intelligencer’s report, there’s a comment from one reader that’s pretty disgusting. This reader said:
“Heck it! I don’t buy the report of the suspect having a ’scruffy appearance’ or if so, the appearance was a disguise. The shooter is probably some disgruntled military or someone that just got out of the military. The shooting happened right near McChord Air Force Base, so I’m thinking easy access to weapons.”
There you have it. It took the Left less than a couple hours to assume that the attacker was a “disgruntled military” serviceman, and to blame “easy access” to firearms for the shooting.

I sincerely “hope” this waste of carbon resists when captured…. even just a little bit. The “change” would do him some good….. maybe….. kinda…..sort of……. probably not.
I’ll save the MSM some trouble…….. “He was a nice guy…. quiet….. a good neighbor (nephew, step-son, cousin, friend)”…. and of course…… “he never owned a gun before”… that’s what caused it too….. Bush’s policies and everyone hating black people.”

So when do we get the truth about what happened? Why would someone just haul off and shoot cops, randomly? Doesn’t make sense.
The best line to start with is it was another Muslim terror attack, that got thwarted at the base gates … couldn’t get in and took the first available high profile targets.
Else, someone knew one or more of the cops and was settling the score. But frankly that seems unlikely.

I’m having to wear a black band on my badge far too often now days. I worked as an LEO in the northwest for 10 years so my heart goes out to my brothers and sisters there.
20 years ago you never heard of multiple officers being killed, it was at most one or two — things are getting very, very bad. I always discourage those who ask me about getting in to law enforcement any more, I didn’t used to, but I cannot in good conscience encourage it now. I only work as a reserve now.
The job has changed and so has the way cops are trained –too much PC and not enough aggressive, tactical thinking– it’s a sad thing.
My prayers for the officers and their loved ones.

This has nothing to do with the military so lefties can just take a long walk off a short pier. I am from WA State. This is something that is a huge shock to our state. Murder just isn’t common here. And within about a month now, cops have been murdered. That just does not happen here.
I hope we learn soon what has happened.

Hopefully, the shooter will be captured and justice will prevail.
I pray for these officers and for their families. As the father of a police officer and National Guardsman, I worry about such things every day.

If police officers cannot protect themselves how can we expect them to protect us.Just imagine if the customers carried guns. Would the perp have attempted this knowing that someone else may have ended his hit before accomplishing his mission?
Instead what will come of this is more regulations taking the means to protect ourselves out of our hands and making us into sheeple ripe for the easy kill.

WA State isn’t one of those anti-gun states. Too many hunters. May have some loons in Seattle, but the majority of WA isn’t anti-guns.
However, we do have some pretty crazy people in this state. After all, this the home state of people like Ted Bundy and Gary Ridgeway. Even the DC sniper lived here for a while. That is how they caught him because he used some tree trunk in the backyard of a home for target practice and they matched up the shells.
I feel sorry for the families. Thanksgiving just over . . . they just went to work. Absolutely senseless.

Agreed – absolutely senseless – my hearfelt condolonces to the Lakeview officer’s wives and families.
I doubt it but, maybe this will put a stop to cops and donut shop allusions. Most probably it will stop cops from congregating for pre-shift coffee at Starbucks et al, as they do here.

There were many reasons I had little confidence in – or respect for – Huckabee during the campaign.
Reading Malkin’s post reminded me of some of his questionable decisions as governor and his inability to take responsibility for them — not to mention his arrogance in not explaining why he pardoned more than one truly dangerous criminal.
His response today makes me sick to my stomach. Something’s not working in that man’s heart or mind.
I hope this does prevent him from running – and messing up – another race for the Republican nomination. America deserves – and will need – someone far better than he in 2012.
My thoughts and prayers are now devoted to the families of these public servants as they face the difficult days and months ahead.

First off, I am not a supporter of the Governor nor do i play one while watching TV. That being said, Governor Huckabee gave this guy a second chance in 2000 and this guy blew it 7 months later which landed him back in jail. Some idiot in the Arkansas Parole Board gave this guy a third chance for some stupid reason. It is this idiot or group of idiots that need to be drug to court and be held liable for releasing this guy back into the wild.
I fail to see the point trying to be made here in that the Governor is somehow responsible for this guys latest operation of permanent dispatch?
The sentences in quotes is all the proof one needs to see the Governor’s hands are clean in this matter. Governor Huckabee left office on Jan. 9, 2007. This guy was recently paroled, March 2008, after the Governor left office.
Again the burden of fault lays squarely on the feet of the inept Arkansas State Parole Board, not the Governors.

It is a gang initiation to kill a cop. I am south of Seattle and know someone with aspirations to be a police officer and it is something that weighs heavily.
Not being in Seattle I do not know how it is there but here, gangs are a problem that is growing at an alarming rate but it is not being discussed nearly enough, imo. It absolutely needs to become a bigger topic. I don’t know what the motivation behind this nut’s actions are/were but whatever it is, I hope the leftards in Seattle do not sugar coat it. This is important no matter what your political leanings are.
