Iraqi women marched in Baghdad on Monday as they became the first female graduates of Iraq’s police officer academy. (Joao Silva for The New York Times)
The first female class of Iraq’s police officer training academy graduated this past week.
The New York Times reported:
As one, the stony faces broke into a free-for-all of kisses, hugs and tears on Monday as the 50 women who called themselves the Lioness group became the first female graduates of Iraq’s police officer training academy.
On a vast concrete parade ground, the women joined 1,050 male classmates in what American military officers, who provided advice on the training, called a step forward for the country and its women.
“Some people have a view of Iraqi women that for them to join the police academy is a shame,” said Alla Nozad Falih, 22, wearing a star on her epaulet that marked her as a first lieutenant. Like about half of the group’s members, she wore her hair uncovered except by a uniform blue beret, and like 26 of her female classmates, she joined the academy after finishing law school.
The job of officer in the national police force is among the highest paying available in Iraq, but also one of the most dangerous; officers and trainees are favorite targets of insurgents.
In 2007 Barack Obama said that possibility of genocide was not a good enough reason to keep US forces in Iraq.
Today violence is down and the former terror regime is a infant democracy thanks to George W. Bush, Republicans and the US military.

damn, there are more jobs in Iraq than there are here in the USA. :(

I just hope they are heavily armed. The only thing the insurgents hate more than male police officers, is woman police officers.
The insurgents finally got smart and rarely attack the US military because of the Americans use of massive firepower i.e. guns/tanks/drones/b52’s and now instead prefer to attack the Iraqi police.
At least it’s a safer job than being a Mexican police officer.

“In 2007 Barack Obama said that possibility of genocide was not a good enough reason to keep US forces in Iraq.”
I am happy that this line is repeated again and again. The main stream media keeps on repeating lies but we have to keep on repeating truths. And this is a truth that I hope will be repeated again and again until the public can get it into their brain who is this person they have elected. Thanks!

This is what freedom brings. The freedom for women to choose their lifestyle. Thank you GWB.
And another brave woman, Hannah Giles, spoke yesterday at the Reagan Ranch.

Now this is a real example of ‘hope and change’. GWB gave the Iraqis the hope that they could change from despotism to democracy.

Seeing women in these uniforms will have a huge, if partly unconscious, impact on all Iraqis and eventually on women in other Muslim countries. They are sharp, practical, not intended to stir up sexual response …. but not hiding their bodies either.
One of the best things that happened in Iraq over the last few years has been the number of US servicewomen in ACUs interacting with Iraqis in a professional manner.
It goes some way to remove the Britney Spears / Madonna image of US culture re: women.

I’ve long said that if Iraq becomes a sustainable functioning democracy that respects individual liberty, human rights, and economic freedom, George Bush will be viewed far more favorably by history than many currently expect.
And if democracy breaks out in the region, like the people in Iran so desperately want, Bush will probably be ranked in the top 4 or 5 presidents of all time 50 years from now.

President Obama Urges Congress To Halt Ft. Hood Probe
[On an eight-day Asia trip, Obama turned his attention home and pleaded for lawmakers to “resist the temptation to turn this tragic event into the political theater.” He said those who died on the nation’s largest Army post deserve justice, not political stagecraft.]

God Bless & Congratulations Iraq!!
It Has Always Been The Soldier
It is the soldier,
not the President who gives us democracy.
It is the soldier,
not the Congress who takes care of us.
It is the soldier,
not the Reporter who has given us Freedom of Press.
It is the soldier,
not the Poet who has given us Freedom of Speech.
It is the soldier,
not the campus [community] Organizer who
has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate.
It is the soldier,
who salutes the flag;
who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
that allows the protester to burn the flag.
~ Father Dennis O’Brien, US Marine Corp. Chaplain
God Bless GWB!
God Bless America!
God Bless Soldiers everywhere for putting THEIR
lives on the line to protect us ALL from terrorism!

a bit OT..
Dr. Zuhdi Jasser
[ In your activism, you've explained how political Islam dominates mosques and institutions of the American Muslim community. Would somebody like Hasan find an ideological home there?
Absolutely. And this is the part that is so difficult to explain, but to me as a Muslim is so easy to understand. Political Islam is an outgrowth of modern secular fascism. In the Middle East, the mosque was the only place you could discuss politics safely, where the government wouldn't touch you, so Islam became politicized. That's the model that the Muslim Brotherhood followed and brought to the United States. They were the ones who built mosques.
This has been a frustrating thing for me as a Muslim activist. Many Muslims disagree with political Islam, but they're not pressured to take on the mosque leadership. So you have discussions in the mosque going far beyond theology and the example of the Prophet; imams use the pulpit, or minbar as it's called in Arabic, to discuss politics. I've seen this over and over again in mosques I've attended.
At the largest mosque in Phoenix, the imam took a picture that CAIR distributed, and made a poster – we think it was doctored – showing an Iraqi lady holding a sign next to an American soldier, saying, "I was knocked up by this soldier." The imam held that up in front of 500 people in the mosque. I later said to him, "Not only is that very offensive to me, but do you realize what you've just done to the minds of students here at Arizona State University by showing them that picture?"
And you wonder how Hasans are created! They go to mosques, they open themselves spiritually to have a conversation with God. And that becomes infiltrated by a deeply anti-American sentiment. This is where you get a guy like Hasan, a very intelligent guy, starting to make the connection between his identity as a Muslim and standing against America. It's no different than Lee Harvey Oswald, who was in the Marines becoming a Marxist. You can't deny that his Marxism played a role in his hatred for this country. ]
i personally wish Jasser would run
with Palin or vise verse in 2012!!
