Senator Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) again yesterday said that the public option in the democrat’s health care bill was wrong. He also said that he would filibuster any bill that included the public option:
Senator Joe Lieberman was on Face the Nation with Bob Schieffer yesterday:
Senator Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., said Sunday that anyone supporting a government-backed health insurance plan is not only “wrong,” but is jeopardizing the passage of any reform of health care.
“I’m all for health care reform,” he said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “We have a system that needs fixing. But we’ve got some more urgent problems than that, and the first most urgent is to fix our economy, to get at creating jobs again.”
Lieberman told moderator Bob Schieffer that the public option “came out of nowhere,” and said it was not necessary to achieve what he described as the two goals of health reform: “Make health insurance more affordable, and to extend it to people who don’t have it now.
“The public option I think was raised in the last year by people who really want to have a government-controlled health insurance system. That’s their right. I think they’re wrong.
“But it’s not necessary – as President Obama has said over and over again – to achieve the goals that he has. So I hope it’s not in there at the end” he told Schieffer.
Bless his heart.
Once again Joe Lieberman puts country over politics.
No wonder the democrats hate him.

Never can tell about Joey. It seems he is siding with Obama over the Rush deals this weekend.

Three cheers for Joe Lieberman! I’m glad there’s at least one senator out there with a backbone, who is willing to stand up for principles.

On the face of it, this looks like a good thing, but I’m not so sure that Joe Lieberman does not have his own agenda.

Um, Joe, the “public option” didn’t came out of nowhere, it came from the biggest partisan bully in Congress: Harry Reid, with a nod to the late Ted Kennedy.

I agree, Rob. Sen. Leiberman is no dummy. As such, I find it impossible to believe that he is totally unaware of the romance the Democrats have had with nationalized health care for many years now. Nor can I doubt he understand that the “public option” is a slippery-slope compromise on the road to make that dream come true.

Lieberman is one of the few Democrats to put the best interest of the US above the liberal talking points.

While I agree that this is a good thing, the cynic in me can’t help but point out that Connecticut is the home of many of the largest insurance companies in the U.S. Once they came out with their PriceWaterhouse study a couple weeks ago, it became open war between Obama and the insurance companies. Joe’s simply dancing with the girl whut brung em.

“the cynic in me can’t help but point out that Connecticut is the home of many of the largest insurance companies”
OK, take that one step further.
Explain Dodd.
