Funny… Bush didn’t have to increase taxes to win the War in Iraq?
A leasding antiwar liberal suggested on Friday that the democrats will have to increase taxes if America wants to continue fighting in Afghanistan.

Higher-income Americans should be taxed to pay for more troops sent to Afghanistan and NATO should provide half of the new soldiers, said Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

An “additional income tax to the upper brackets, folks earning more than $200,000 or $250,000” a year, could fund more troops, Levin, a Michigan Democrat, said in an interview for Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital With Al Hunt,” airing this weekend.

White House Budget Director Peter Orszag has estimated that each additional soldier in Afghanistan could cost $1 million, for a total that could reach $40 billion if 40,000 more troops are added.

In March Senator Levin announced that the democrats would have to cut funding to the Pentagon.

Why is it that to Democrats, attempting to get anything done at all requires that more and more money be seized via taxation?

It’s easier to print it “helicopter ben” can drop it from helicopters.
If we were living in the real world raising taxes would work, but in the reality where we live the government pays it’s employees more money than taxes will ever bring in.
Taxes alone won’t pay for all the entitlements. As per the constitution “the military” is a mandatory function of the federal government, all these other entitlements aren’t mentioned anywhere.

Is this war tax going to be like the tax on telecom to pay for the Spanish American war?? If you recall we only recinded that tax in 2006 after 108 years of tax collection.

So the war is going to be the dems justification for tax increases. Of course, after the taxes are raised, they will pull out our troops and cut defense spending to the bone.

They’re going to have to ban calculators.

A while back, Obama said 34,000 more tropps in Afghanistan would cost $40,000,000,000.

I still have a calculator. Mine says $40,000,000,000 divided by 34,000 = about $1.2 million a airman/marine/soldier. That’s way above the average salary in major league baseball.

And they say Palin isn’t smart enough to be President!

How about if the dems announce that if Americans want a bigger government, it is going to require higher taxes – I’m sure that will go over big even though the American people know the democrats growing government is doing just that – raising taxes.

This announcement by Levin is to drum up support for abandoning Afghanistan. Threaten to raise taxes to pay for it and the electorate will say the hell with it…leave. There is always a hidden agenda behind anything the dems do or say.

this is a variation on a common theme usually found at the city leval. “IF TAXES ARE NOT RAISED WE WILL HAVE TO LAY OFF POLICE AND FIREMEN”
