Speaker Pelosi was confronted by a local reporter on the legality of jailing Obamacare evaders during a presss conference in Seattle:
Here is part of the exchange:
KOMO News reporter Shomari Stone: Do you think it’s fair to send people to jail who don’t buy health insurance?
Pelosi: …The legislation is very fair in this respect.
From the video:
According to Committee On Ways & Means Republicans Ranking Member, Dave Camp, “the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain acceptable health insurance coverage and who choose not to pay the bills new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.”
HotAirPundit has more video of the Speaker being confronted by an independent journalist on Pelosicare being a jobs killer that will drive us back to more recession.

Pelosi: …The legislation is very fair in this respect.
Fair for me to pay for abortions?
Fair for me to pay for the health care for “undocumented Americans”?
Fair for my quality of health care to be reduced?
Doesn’t seem so fair to me.

When us “tea baggers” and 9-12ers refuse to purchase the insurance plans that the annointed ones in D.C. deem appropriate, how many of us will they send to jail? Will they empty out Gitmo and use it for us who will be identified as more dangerous to the republic than the terrorists? Meanwhile, Gitmo detainees have menus and are ordering out. The world is laughing at us. The Founders are rolling over in their graves……God help us!

I had a good grim laugh yesterday when Obama was quoted as saying “penalties are appropriate for people who try to free ride the system and force others to pay for their health insurance.” Nevermind the whole bleeping bill was initiated as a sop to people who want to force others to pay for their health insurance…
It’s not about health care, it’s never been about health care, it’s about punishing people who disagree with them.

This health bill–and any other like it–needs to die, and any congressman that would vote for it need to be voted out. Pelosi’s meandering and ultimately evasive answers communicate little more than the contempt she has for anyone who doesn’t agree with her. She and the other aristocratic, self-important liberal idiots in government need a wake-up call in 2010 (and then again in 2012).

http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/11/when_our_military_is_attacked.html
Read the whole thing – it is good.
“Obama’s indifference and distaste are on display every day. He golfs while unemployment surges. He pontificates after an attack against America.
Why the “let them eat cake” attitude? Is it because he’s pleased that the Left’s long laid plan to decimate capitalism is working nicely? Is he stubborn, not wanting to do what he doesn’t want to do?
I’d say yes. But there’s something much more unsettling.
He may have a limited ability to care.
Sure Obama loves his wife, children, dog Bo, and himself, especially himself. And he relishes his far left ideology.
But the working stiff, the heart and soul of this country? I don’t see it. The United States? I don’t think so.
And that’s why Obama should never have been elected President.
A man or woman can be a decent President without getting A’s in school or graduating from the Ivy League. They don’t need to have had a Brady Bunch childhood.
They can even lack experience if they work 24/7, know what they don’t know, and seek expert advice.
But there’s one requirement that is nonnegotiable:
They need to be able to care about us.
And, frankly, I don’t know if this President is capable of it.
Robin is a licensed psychotherapist and a recovering liberal in Berkeley.”

If I had the $250,000.00 for the fine, I would buy health insurance. So if I dont’ buy the health insurance, they are going to fine me money I don’t have and can’t make in prison. And since I’m in prison, they give me free health care, and room and board. Makes no sense.
Or, can we recind our citizenship, and get free health insurance and no fines?

How are they going to get all these so-called lawbreakers sent to jail? It would seem to me, taking into account this law will not be ruled as unconstitutional, you have to have charges filed, arrests made, and then the trial. Or are we going to be sent directly to jail with no trial? I would love to see millions refuse to purchase health insurance just to watch the total collapse of the judicial system.
Perhaps they’ll establish ‘re-education’ camps for those refusing to participate. Of course they’ll have to defend against an insurrection and that will be a lose, lose, for those potentates in DC.
Onward to 2010 and boot them out.

I’m sorry but this just keeps getting sillier and sillier. I mean, you couldn’t make this stuff up. President Present says that no one should get a free ride yet everyone in Congress is since they don’t have to follow the system they want to force on the rest of us.
And has anyone asked yet whether government workers (Post Office, etc.) are also exempt? Let me tell you…government employees have a pretty sweet benefits package. Will they be asked to give pay more because of the new government mandates or will we the taxpayer have to foot the bill for these “required” benefits? I’ll make a bet that it’s in this bill somewhere.
November 11th, 2009 | 12:15 pm | #29
Everyone in Congress has been on a free ride for much too long. The working folk in the private sector pay taxes which, in turn, pay their salaries. This goes for anyone working for local, state, or federal entities. No government bureaucracy creates anything but does burden the ones paying taxes.
Taxes, insurance premiums paid by government employees do not cover the initial costs which come from the private sector.
November 11th, 2009 | 12:16 pm | #30
Sending people to jail, depriving them of their liberty and property because they do not buy what the government has no legal right to compel them to buy is not what those we honor today had in mind.

Logistically, I can’t fathom how any of this could be sustainable under our current system of justice. Housing wouldn’t be a problem because they could use closed military bases and staffing them with the likes of ACORN and their minions. So it would seem to me that due process will have to be eliminated.
But we can, and should, take control at the state levels and start telling DC to kiss our collective arses. Onward to 2010.

People who don’t purchase health insurance will be required to either sign up for the “free” govt option or face penalties. Most will opt for the govt option, signing away their right to privacy and access to their bank accounts to the govt. This really is a power grab and a stepping stone to socialism.
By the way, the parallel of auto liability insurance and health insurance isn’t a parallel at all. You don’t have to have auto liability insurance if you don’t own a car and you don’t have to own a car. A body, however…
November 11th, 2009 | 12:36 pm | #38
It would be interesting to watch the jackbooted thugs try to round up people to throw them into the gulags. Unlike other regimes, we are well armed here in the hinderland. One area of the private sector doing very well is in firearm sales.
Has anyone asked themselves what you would do if they tried to confiscate your weapons? Or your neighbor’s? This is worst case I know, but it will reveal your mettle. After all, I don’t recall friends, neighbors, or anyone concerned about individual liberty coming to the defense of other private citizens when attacked by their government.

Mass non-compliance coupled with legal challenges would overwhelm the system easily. Ten thousand legal challenges would guarantee a rapid escalation to the Supreme Court. Then we could see where they find the authority to force the American public to purchase a product or service.
It seems to me that even a well informed and prepared layman could argue this case. After all, the main premise behind mandatory participation is based not on what has happened, but what might happen, that is, that people would game the system.
If the U.S. Supreme Court can find a constitutional justification for this legislation, than the Constitution is not worth the paper it’s written on. The Consitution would have been made obsolete by excessive interpretation.
I say, bring it on! Pass it, and you may yet see a revolution. One is sorely needed, as we have already shamed ourselves in front of our forebears. Even two generations back from those of us who are middle-aged, would be appalled.

LT, they’re not going to throw you in jail for avoiding the taxes. They’re going to throw you in jail for not buying the exorbitant government healthcare insurance. That’s their answer to the “huge problem” of a few dozen million people not buying healthcare insurance on their own initiative. And you don’t even get any benefits until 2013, but the taxes to pay for them start right away. In the middle of a recession where the official employment rate is 10.2% and climbing, and the real employment rate is probably around 18% and probably also climbing.

They are either unbelieveably stupid or they want to break the country. WHat other options are there? Only: Both.
No sensible person would purposely bring a nation to its knees – too many unknowns when that happens – things get out of control real fast, and it’s nearly impossible to restore what worked when everything’s broken down – particularly the social contract – the national consensus of which is the rightful government amongst many competing factions.

By Natzi Pelosi’s logic then… Those that dont buy their own food, or pay their own rent, or buy car insurance( even if they dont own a car) Should be fined or put in jail by Maddam Botox and President Pantywaist / telepromter reader ! We could also pay for the new beaurocracies required to enforce these new laws by cutting welfare payments/fraud by $690 billion and HUD wasteful spending. Oh and those without jobs will be required to get a job. I forgot… There will be 540 billion in this new bill for paying for studying why conservatives are better than liberals in all public schools in grades K-9 to get them off of the Govt is the answer mentality. Boycot DC! It is a smal part of this country. It seems to be the center of a large number of problems. Stop sending your money to enable them to continue. Avoid taxes. Act and spend locally. Barter. Farmers Market. The economy is being driven underground. Keep things off the books. How do you think all those illegals survive?
I mean really, I read about people willing to renounce their citizenships above. Well, I am a citizen of the United States of America and not a citizen of the United States Federal Government.
No one is going to jail over this, so stop hyperventilating. They are mearly threatening you. It is just a threat. They have no teeth. Do not fear them. Fear the loss of your power.
The upcoming elections will determine the future more than any crap congess or the O churn out before then. The hand writing is on the wall and soon they will get over their denial and it will be them that will be in fear.
Congress and their enablers will do everything possible to disenfrachise us. This is the true danger to our freedom. There will be many distractions generated while the mechanisims are put in place to reduce the elections to a sham. Laws can be changed. The lack of an effective fraudulent election process is the only thing keeping us from the end of democracy.
The elections are the last thing we have left short of the unthinkable. Protect your right to really change things!
