Of course, this surprises no one.
Weakling Hollywood Director Roland Emmerich of the disaster movie “2012″ will show Catholic landmarks destroyed but will spare Muslim holy sites.

Emmerich says he doesn’t want a fatwa placed on his head.

Catholic Exchange reported, via Free Republic:

Catholic League president Bill Donohue speaks to the way Catholics and Muslims are treated in the upcoming film, “2012”:

When we got word recently that the movie “2012” depicts the Vatican being blown up, along with the famous statue from Rio, Christ the Redeemer, we were unmoved. Why? Because this occurs during the end of the world in a massive destruction. This kind of sensationalism, we reasoned, is standard fare for director Roland Emmerich: he is the guru of the “blow ‘em up” genre of movies. But now we’ve learned that while Catholics get theirs, Muslims are spared. Out of fear, of course.

Emmerich is more than a coward—he is a liar who has it out for Catholics. Last year, he was quoted saying, “I would like to erase all nations and religions.” Not true. He is quite content to live with Islam, even though he readily admits it is a religion of terror. When asked why he did not show the destruction of Kaaba, the religious structure in the Grand Mosque in Mecca, he said, “I wanted to do that, I have to admit. You can actually let Christian symbols fall apart, but if you would do this with [an] Arab symbol, you would have…a fatwa.”

So why was the Sistine Chapel designated for destruction? “We have to show how this gets destroyed….I am against organized religion.” Emmerich lies again. He is not against Islam.

Stop patronizing these kind of rubbish film. Emmerich is f***g coward. His ego is as big as his head, but his balls are really…really tiny.

    Two thoughts:
    1. Catholicism has survivd far worse than this and it will survive emmerich.
    2. The fear of offending Islam is much like how Churchill described appeasement, feeding the crocodile in hopes he will eat you last.

I imagine many liberals and agnostics will be going ‘bonkers’ as 2012 approaches.

    The end of all things!

    Oblivion!

    I can’t wait.

The movie looks awful and the entire premise is flawed. Basically an urban legend, the Maya civilization didn’t think the world was ending in 2012.

So basically, a non issue to me. Anyone paying to see that junk deserves to see it.

That and it sounds like he is against all religions to me, seems more like you are putting words into his mouth. The coward part is true though. Sounds like he is scared to show Muslim holy things being destroyed because they might target him.

Simple solution: don’t go see the film. Losing your hard earned $$ is the only way these people will learn.

Maybe I should not have just bough a house here in Southern California? I drive by a billboard with the Jesus statue falling on my way home from work. So are they hoping for the end of Christianity by the symbolism here? Also, why all the fuss about global warming then? Seems like nature, or Divine Judgment, could kill us all in a moments time and not care about how many “carbon credits” we have accumulated from Al Gore.

So, I gather from this, he is saying Islam is violent. How could that be?/

It is kind of funny how, as a practical matter, he is saying the only valid religions are the violent ones. Thus, if the Catholics started killing people, he would give them his support…

People are going to have to choose whether they like it or not. Emmerick has chosen. I am certain he will live long enough to regret it.

Thank you for the heads up, Gateway. I will not go to the movie.

Not exactly Oriana Fallaci, is he? No, he’s just another Hollywood pansy with a chip on his shoulder for religions that DON’T kill you.

Ever since Dean Devlin went out on his own Emmerich has had one flop after another; he wasn’t the creative force of the team. The third acts are always weak anyway.

Maybe he’s opposed to Christianity because license is cool. Restrictions are so uncool.

I’m a Christian, and, frankly, I’ve had it up to here with this double standard. Silence gives consent. In addition to shunning the film, Christians should write to the studios who put out this crap and let them know it has not gone unnoticed.Boycott their other financial endeavors. Give them a little bad publicity. Push back. It isn’t going to stop suddenly because we ignore the discrimination. In fact, it’ll get much, much worse.

Radical Islamofascists fantasize about blowing up every Christian monument on the planet. So does this guy. Bet it’ll be a hit in Gaza and Libya.
CG or C-4 explosives, it’s just a matter of what one purchases with one’s budget of millions.
How many Hindu temples does he fake blow up? For a bunch of vegetarians, they can rampage as effectively as any Muslim mob against desecration of their shrines.
This guy has picked his side. He’s lying about everything else.

That does it then, Emmerich isn’t going to get any of my money.

As for his position on “organized Religion” – it sure isn’t missionary.

This is just another marketing avenue the film makers are using to drum up excitement for their movie. The best part for them is that it is free since all they needed to do was get Christians excited, and the rest will happen naturally. So rather than get into a huge uproar about his asinine comments hit him where it hurts and refuse to see the movie in theatres, and don’t by the DVD. Hitting them in the pocketbook is the only language these people understand. Anything else is seen as good publicity.

I knew it! I knew it!

That was the FIRST question I asked when I saw the laughable previews to this movie.

It looks stupid beyond belief anyway without the gratuitous Christian destruction and I have no intention anyway of wasting my time on something this ridiculous (Shame on John Cusak whom I have always liked as an actor). But I knew there would be no scenes of the destruction of Muslim holy sites. Just Christian ones.

Just one more reason for those who care about good filmaking to not go see this piece of trash.
