California will no longer subsidize mammograms for poor women under 50.
The NC Times reported:

The eligibility age for state-subsidized breast cancer screening has been raised from 40 to 50 by the California Health and Human Services Agency, which will also temporarily stop enrollment in the breast cancer screening program.

Advocates for low-income women, whose health care the department helps pay for, say the cuts put a two-tier system in place that is based on money rather than medical standards.

The cuts will greatly harm the clinic’s mammogram program, said Natasha Riley, manager of Vista Community Clinic’s Breast Health Outreach and Education Program.

The clinic and others like it in San Diego County provide reduced-cost care, mostly to low-income people, with money from the state and some private donations.

More than 50 percent of the women we give breast exams and mammograms to are in their 40s,” Riley said. “The majority of our current breast cancer survivors are women in their 40s.”

The state’s decision, announced Dec. 1 and effective Jan. 1, follows a controversial federal recommendation last month that mammograms before the age of 50 are generally not needed.

California is bankrupt. They won’t cut the subsidies for unions or illegal aliens, they won’t turn the water on for irrigation or cut the tax burden on businesses to improve the state’s economy (and thus tax receipts)–but something’s gotta get cut.

I don’t think they’re serious about this anyway; they’re going to use the public protest over it to justify more tax hikes.

Just a tip of the iceberg if the Democrats are successful in passing communist health care.

Once again, Sarah Palin is proved right. God (I know the Godless progressives hate it when one uses the term of the deity unless it is followed by something profane), the Dumbocrats are gonna have their panties all in a bunch now.

“It’s just a recommendation. No one is talking about rationing health care and no one will ever be denied a mammogram or any other preventative care because of this report. You teabaggers are always lying and overreacting!” –every Leftist in the country

“We will be rationing mammograms based on the new federal recommendation.” –California

“Pay no attention to those dead women behind the curtain! It isn’t rationing when commissars do it! Socialized medicine is WONDERFUL!”–more Leftists

Absolutely outrageous….But, another classic example of how folks in that part of the country “think”…and I use that word VERY loosely.

Meanwhile, back in the city; What would you like to bet they don’t cut a penny’s worth of benefits for illegal aliens?

California WILL be the first State in the Union to demand (and GET) a multi-billion dollar bailout from Washington. Pelousy and O Bomber will see to that. It would have happened sooner if there was a Democrat in Sacramento. With a RINO as governor, they’ll have to drop to both knees and kiss the ring of The One before the greenback pipeline is opened full blast. That way the fraud guarantees the electoral college votes in 2012.

If this change is upheld, the California Health and Human Services Agency instantly becomes a DEATH PANEL.

What are you complaining about, they are only excluding about 25% of likely cases, and they’re poor, so what does it matter? // SARC = OFF //

This way, American women can start dying from breast cancer at the same rate as their peers in Great Britain.

So what is the position here- that the State should, or should not, provide free mammograms for women under 50?

They just discovered a lump in my daughter’s breast and she isn’t 50! Men should be prohibited from voting on any issue that concerns women, they simply have no clue!!!!

Brinksmanship on the part of the state government. It’s like threatening to open the prisons, fire cops and teachers, and not pave the roads when someone complains that taxes are too high.
It’s why they picked breast cancer. It’s high profile, common enough to affect everyone, and politically connected. If this happened with prostate cancer, or inflammatory bowel disease, no one would care.

this whole example of breast cancer and the state actively trying to ignore and deny coverage for women makes it personal for me.

whoa to the left winger who decides to make socialized medicine a topic of discusion in real life with me.

my wife died at only 36 a few years ago from breast cancer and I have a visceral violent anger wrapped up with a bow waiting for the first left wing a$$hole who thinks health care is the topic to discuss with me….

Hi Chris you idiot! Schwarzenegger can no longer be regarded as a Republikan. He turned a RINO, controlled by the “powerful sexual signals” being send by his “democratic” missus, Maria Shriver.

Appart from that the entire “Califonian” (he, he, he!) legislature is in the hands of those “democratic” cretins.

So here we deal with the typical case of a simbiosis between the Leftoid degenerates and their “useful idiot”.

By the way Schwarzenegger should change his name to Schwachenegger.

    Schwach, in German, means weak.

As they say. There is nothing more expensive than “free” health care.

    See link for data

The data on the link is interesting.

It shows that while while women have a significantly higher rate of breast cancer than black women, a far greater percentage of black women than white women who have breast cancer die from it.

Take those numbers and compare them to health coverage where a higher percentage of white women than black women have health insurance that covers mammograms and you can come to only one conclusion.

This change in the insurance law is nothing more than an attempt to kill white women so that as many of them percentage wise die from breast cancer as black women.
