Huck spoke about Sarah Palin today saying, “She has a very different political direction than I do.”
True.
clemmons
She does not pardon or release cop-killing felons decades before their sentence is up.
The Hill blog reported, via Free Republic:

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.) on Wednesday sought to put distance between former Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) and himself.

Huckabee, in an interview with Christianity Today, stressed that the two potential 2012 presidential candidates have different “political direction[s]” and questioned both of their statuses as presidential contenders.

“We’re both Republican, we’re both pro-life—there are a lot of similarities that way—but she has a very different political direction than I do,” he said. ” I’m not sure of her future politically, and I’m really not sure of mine either.”

    This is hilarious! I’m not a fan of Palin, but Huckabee is insane if he thinks that he is distancing himself from Palin. More like everyone else is running away from Huck. If he was smart, he would try to get closer to her as she might be able to minimize the damage to him for his pardon.

    He’s right. Palin’s direction is up, Huck’s is straight down.

    Huck should take a note from High Fidelity and reflect upon the sentiment.

    “Rob, top five musical crimes perpetuated by Stevie Wonder in the ’80s and ’90s. Go. Sub-question: is it in fact unfair to criticize a formerly great artist for his latter day sins, is it better to burn out or fade away? “

    On a sidenote:

    There is no set date for US troops to finish withdrawing from Afghanistan, and the number of soldiers leaving in 2011 “could be very few,” the top uniformed US military officer said on Thursday.

    Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen told CBS News that the 2011 deadline cited by President Barack Obama this week in unveiling a plan to send 30,000 more US troops to the conflict was only a start date for withdrawal.

    “It’s very clear that the president has given us guidance that in July of 2011, we’ll start to transition security responsibility to the Afghan national security forces,” Mullen said on the “Early Show.”

    “There’s no determination of how long that will take… There’s no specific guidance with respect to how many. It could be very few, it could be a large number,” he added.

    The singular issue of “life” doesn’t make one a leader Republican conservatives can count on.

    He can flap his jaw all he wants about being conservative, but we have his record as governor to judge him with, and he failed that test.

    That’s how we’ll judge every candidate from here on out. Their actions and voting records will tell us all we need to know. Their mouths aren’t going to do it.

    Sarah Palin shares our values and makes the right, common sense decisions that we Americans understand and applaud.

    That’s what makes the Left, and this envious man, so nervous. Pack up the silver tongues. We require a record of conservativism.

    Huckabee has shifted to playing the role of spoiler/selecter. Like Howard Dean, he’s been discovered to be a complete loser, but he still wants to play a major part in things. By trashing Palin, he’s signifying his desire to be a major player in the selection of the next candidate.

    Of course, that’ll lead to appointment positions (since he’s completely unelectable now).

    Huckabee has the same window of opportunity to endear himself as a viable political possibility as does Palin. Neither holds office, neither has declared. Both are generally viewed as having some degree of “baggage” and, with regard to 2012, about 18 months or so to lose all or most of that burden. Palin’s load seems, to me at least, to be getting a bit lighter. Fate just tossed the equivalent of a blacksmith’s anvil into Huckabee’s suitcase. I think he would be better served, in view of recent events, to focus on analyzing the actions of Congress and the Administration, as opposed to discussing the “political direction” of himself versus Governor Palin. That doesn’t strike me as a good career move.

    Thus far, Sarah Palin has weathered quite a bit of adversity and is still standing. Now, Mike Huckabee receives his turn in the crucible. We will now come to know more about him, one way or the other, as a result. While not a Huckabee aficionado, I don’t relish the thought of his political destruction, either. Step carefully, Mike.

    From what I understand Huckabee just reduced the guy’s sentence to 47 years after he was charged at 16 years of age for robbery and burgulary and given over a hundred years in the slammer with no parole. I’m thinking that giving a 16 year old over a hundred years for those crimes was more than heavy-handed. I don’t think anyone could predict Clemons was just a bad a** at that time. At least some, if not most blame should be thrown on the judge or judges who released the guy on bond after he was convicted of second-degree rape a child and then was able to shoot four police officers.

    Your characterization of Mike Huckabee as one who pardons and releases “cop-killing felons” is factually incorrect. Gov. Huckabee commuted Mr. Clemmons’ sentence to 47-years. He did not release him. At that time, Mr. Clemmons was not guilty of murder let alone a cop-killing. Three years later, Mr. Clemmons was released by a parole board. Although we may disagree on the wisdom of his actions, shouldn’t we at least agree on the facts.

    Huckabee has a habit of gigging his fellow Republicans. He stuck it to Romney for his LDS affiliation during the primary, and then ran defense for McCain by refusing to bow out after a couple of lucky wins.

    Mr. Huckabee does not possess the charity that one would expect from a Christian, much less a pastor, unless that charity is directed towards a convict (actually many convicts).

    He is more politician than anything, and builds himself up by tearing others down. It’s just amazing that he cannot keep his mouth shut.

    I agree with Tom G. Let’s not let enemies see us squabbling over things when they’re trying to pull the wool over our eyes with government run everything: global warming/cap and tax, auto,banks,healthcare,journalism,internet,etc.

    They want to keep us so distracted that we won’t notice until we’ve lost every American freedom we have.

    That’s why I like Sarah. She seems ready to take on the fight and the left doesn’t like it. They fear her because they know she can do it.

    I appreciate your view, and I generally agree, but apparently Gov. Huckabee didn’t consult all the evidence available to him, including Clemons’s sadistic behavior in jail. He was a violent thug in prison, assaulting other inmates and guards; he was even accused of sexual assault:

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/12/03/washington.clemmons.huckabee/

    This guy should never have been released from prison, and Gov. Huckabee should not have commuted his sentence. He’ll have to wear the consequences of this bad decision, and what appears to be a history of letting out violent thugs before they’ve served their time.

    Huckabee: Sarah Palin Has a Very Different Political Direction Than I Do

    Yep. Palin will rise to POTUS in 2012, earning herself a place in history on the level of Ronald Reagan. And you, Huck, will continue with your talk show, where you’ll continue to talk tabloid gossip with guests, throwing in a sprinkling of political talk every now and then.

    FWIW, I like to tune in to Huckabee now and then. He comes across as nice enough guy, sincerely interested in what his guests have to say and it’s neat to see him sit in with guest bands, playing his guitar. I also like to tune into Craig Ferguson once in a while but I wouldn’t vote for him if he was eligible and ran for POTUS.

    The original crime was aggravated robbery, meaning he used violence against the victim. He also took a gun to school and assaulted his own mother during his trial. He had every indication of being a lifelong violent loser.

    And Huckabee “laughed out loud” at the prosecutor who complained about his serial clemencies:

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Yeah, there’s plenty of blame to go around. Huckabee should be held accountable for his role in Clemmons’ being on this side of prison bars, and so far he’s the only one to whom fingers are pointed.
    What about the judge(s) who released him on bond three days before he murdered four cops? I don’t think I’ve even heard his/her name, much less seen him/her explaining his/her reasons for letting the child rapist turned mass murderer out among the rest of us. If he was criminally insane, calling himself Jesus and such as has been reported, that’s even more reason to keep him in jail at least long enough to be evaluated by a shrink or three if not until his court date. Three days seems like an awfully short time to go from being safe enough to release on bond to stark raving, cop-massacring mad.
    Between his Huck-approved clemency and being arrested for raping a child, how many other judges had sentenced him? He is reported to have been a career criminal, so there must have been many, many more arrests and convictions. Were all of those sentences very short or are there also parole boards to share in some of this accountability?
    Ultimately, though, the blame goes to Clemmons himself. He stalked the cops and pulled the trigger. He gets the lion’s share of accountability, something I’m sure he’s well aware of now. (Can you imagine explaining to The Creator that you’re there early because you were shot to death in a shootout with cops only days after killing four of them in a surprise attack you planned at a coffee shop? Can a soul crap his pants in fear?)
    While I’m not a fan of Huckabee, I think Jim Hoft’s verbiage is a little off base. Gov. Huckabee did not pardon or release Clemmons as a convicted cop killer or rapist. Clemmons had not been convicted of any of those crimes at the time his sentence was commuted by Huckabee. He was serving a 108 year sentence for burglary. Just trying to set the facts straight, folks.
    Huckabee is the kind of religious pastor/man who gets off on being benevolent. It makes him feel good about himself to do this and the hell with the rest of society he has put in danger. Besides, do we really want another president who is all wrapped up in himself. He commuted this guy’s sentence over the objections of the prosecutors who tried Clemmons. He pardoned and commuted the sentences of 703 people in his 8 years of office. That is unheard of. Arkansas is not that big a state. How many ofther criminals reverted back to crime that we haven’t heard about? This is like pardoning that woman who killed two people with a pick-ax over a motorcycle because she converted to Christianity and married her prison pastor and wanted a pardon on that basis. Nobody but the liberals bought that canard. It makes no sense to pardon and /or commute the sentence of someone who is guilty. You pardon someone who was wrongly incarcerated. If you do the crime you pay the time. Clemmons was a bad, bad guy even at 18. The prosedcutors knew what they were dealing with and acted accordingly. Huckabee wanted the black vote.
    BarbaraSNo Gravatar
    December 3rd, 2009 | 6:21 pm | #44
    I see that in re-reading the post that Clemmons is not the only criminal who did damage after being pardoned/reduced sentence. A rapist named Dumond went on and raped two women in another state. I wonder why Huckabee doesn’t have any moments of doubt about his omnipotence and can still look himself in the mirror. It takes a lot of self assurance to run for POTUS and Huckabee has that in spades. You pretty much have to have the hide of a rhinocerous so that petty slights cannot penetrate. He evidently has that in spades also. I don’t think this guy has any regrets and would do the same thing in a heartbeat.
    His stance on GITMO, waterboarding and investigating the CIA should be indicative of how much compassion or pity he has for terrorists and other enemies of state. I don’t know where he stands on those issues as I’ve never had to even consider voting for him, otherwise, I’d tell you. I wouldn’t want him on the presidential ticket regardless.
