A Nigerian terrorist was arrested today after trying to explode a powdery substance taped to his leg on a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit.
The man who suffered second-degree burns told federal investigators that he was directed by al Qaeda.
ABC reported:

Federal officials and police are interviewing a Nigerian man, who allegedly tried to “explode” a powdery substance aboard a Northwest flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, injuring himself and two other passengers, law enforcement officials said.

The man said he was directed by al Qaeda to explode a small device in flight, over U.S. soil, ABC News has learned. Authorities have no corroboration of that information, and the credibility of the suspect’s statements are being questioned, officials said.

The man was apparently already on the government’s no-fly list of suspected terrorists, according to a senior intelligence official.

“The subject is claiming to have extremist affiliation and that the device was acquired in Yemen along with instructions as to when it should be used,” a federal situational awareness bulletin stated.

Delta spokeswoman Susan Chana Elliott said that “as the plane was getting ready to land” in Detroit “a passenger caused a disturbance” by trying to ignite what was initially reported to be firecrackers.

The man was “subdued immediately,” Elliott said. Northwest is a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta.

The suspect told authorities that he had explosive powder taped to his leg and used a syringe of chemicals to mix with the powder that was to cause explosion. This is of concert because it is a method of mixing that is consistent with terror techniques.

Northwest Airlines flight 253 landed safely in Detroit at 11:53 a.m. The man, who flew from Nigeria to Amsterdam and then Detroit, was taken into custody at the Detroit airport and was interviewed by authorities there. He was then taken to an area hospital to be treated for burns.

Yiid with Lid added that the terrorist was on a federal no fly list.

He said Al Qaeda told him to do it, but the authorities don’t seem to believe him “they are questioning the credibility of his statements”. I guess the bomb strap to his leg isn’t proof enough of his intentions.

Nigeria (terrorist nation), Amsterdam (muslim friendly country) and detroit (Al Qaeda headquarters in the US). Not that hard to connect the dots.

We were lucky this time, but it doesn’t seem the government is serious in this war on terror, I’m sorry I mean “man cause disaster”.

They seem to be taking this more seriously now.

On Fox, they reported that it was an “explosive device” that they had never seen before. Supposedly, this guy had training in Yemen from AQ, who, at some point, said they were going to target the US.

Lord Barak has raised the terror alert message.

They’re also saying that an individual aboard the plane stopped the terrorist.

Just to clarify, the Northern half of Nigeria is predominantly Muslim, primarily of the Hausa African tribal group (which dominates the military and government). The culture is also more traditional herders, nomads.
The Southern half of Nigeria is predominantly CHristian or Animist (traditional), and even in these predominant areas they are further divided by tribe – the South is home to the Hausa’s political rivals, the Ibo (Biafra) and the Yoruba. Those are the three largest, there are tens more tribal groups, smaller.) Both cultures are more farming/settled in culture, and today dominate the middle class professionals in business, and other sectors, with a high value on education.
The problem is regional – much of West Africa is made up of countries that are pretty much half Muslim (northern) and half Christian with Animists. Ivory Coast is on the splits along that North-South line right thru the middle of the country, somewhat of a stalemate with the French sitting between the two sides.
That line, which runs east-west thru West Africa is the furthest reach of the Arab conquest thru the Sahara, and the slaving as a tactic of conquest.
Saudi Arabia has planted Wahhabist mosques thruout that entire northern zone, west to east, stocked with radical Wahhabist imams. They’ve got easily twenty years of hard core indoctrination injected into what was once a much more laid back area.
Many Nigerians are very pro-USA and many have also been the targets of Muslim extremist attacks egged on by the Saudi trained radical imams in their own country.
With borders crossed constantly by nomads, weak policing, security and military, the entire region is easy infiltrating for Al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood.

So, let me see if I understand this.

Transportation Security couldn’t find a bag of explosive chemicals strapped to the leg of a foreign national from a terrorist-supporting nation, WHO IS ON THE NO-FLY LIST!!, or the syringe of explosive liquid to be added to the dry chemicals? This wouldn’t have anything to do with political correctness, would it? Not wanting to hurt the feelings or upset the nice black guy? Certainly _ _ _.

That’s all right, though. They probably strip-searched the eighty-year-old granny lady and confiscated her bottle of Prell.

From my website. I comment on a number of things, but what caught my attention the most was how our government in it’s infinite wisdom admitted the guy was already on a watch list and shouldn’t have been on the plane. WHAT??!

Hey, as a former police detective I can tell you there are a few things you never admit- this is one of them. It is far better to stick your hands in your pocket and look around innocently while whistling than admit you are so incompetent and stupid you let a man who shouldn’t fly BECAUSE he’s a terrorist on a plane WITH A BOMB!!! Like I said in another post-

They might as well start cutting their hair into a bowl shape and start slapping each other and poking each other in the eye while going “Yuck yuck yuck”

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., ranking GOP member of the House Homeland Security Committee, identified the suspect as Abdul Mudallad, a Nigerian. King said the flight began in Nigeria and went through Amsterdam en route to Detroit. There were 278 passengers aboard the Airbus 330.

[Passengers] were keenly aware, having a bird’s-eye view of the man, who was tackled by passengers shortly after he tried to light [something]. Passengers subdued the man and may have prevented him from detonating the explosives, officials said.

“It was terrifying. I thought this was it,” said Richelle Keepman of Oconomowoc, Wis., who sat just rows in front of the suspect. She said she thought she was going to die when she saw the flames and commotion.

Michigan native Melinda Dennis was sitting in first class when the suspect was placed in a seat across the aisle from her. “He didn’t say anything,” said Dennis, who lives in Europe and was connecting to a flight to Arizona. “He was burned very severely on his leg.… He was very calm and didn’t show any reaction to pain.”

The Nigerian suspect allegedly tried to detonate a powdery substance on a flight from Amsterdam as it prepared to land at Detroit with 278 people on board.

US law enforcement officials identified the suspect as Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab. The 23-year-old is reportedly an engineering student at University College London.

    http://freep.com/article/20091225/NEWS05/91225022/1318/Reports-NWA-passenger-was-trying-to-blow-up-flight-into-Detroit

No excuse if the name typed on the banned from flight list was not spelled both ways:

Nigeria is not a terrorist country at all. Possible civil unrest, but it’s not a training camp, nor are there more terrorists or terrorism-idealists than there would be any other country. I might even go as far to say there are more terrorist networks in Canada than Nigeria. But then, there might be terrorist networks in all countries.

What really baffles me is the supposed Homeland Security that should have acted on the tip of his father. What’s the point of such an organization when it doesn’t do anything pro-active to protect its citizens.
More now than ever is it easy to believe that it’s a cloak to allow unjust wars on countries, and US citizen rights.
