Republican Scott Brown has been running ads in Massachusetts where he is out driving around in his old pickup truck while campaigning for US Senator. Brown released this ad on January 3. Around this same time Martha Coakley reportedly went on vacation.
Here’s that ad again:
Republican Scott Brown is a regular guy who drives a truck with nearly 200,000 miles on it. He says the truck has brought him closer to the people as he’s traveled around Massachusetts during the special election to replace the late Ted Kennedy in the U.S. Senate.
Today Barack Obama campaigned for Martha Coakley in Boston and bashed Scott Brown and truck owners several times during his speech. Obama told the crowd, “Anybody can own a truck.”
Of course, Obama’s latest attack on middle class Americans surprises no one.
Obama has a history of this.
Later Scott Brown responded to the president’s attack.
FOX News reported:
Brown took that opportunity to slam the president on government spending..
“Mr. President, unfortunately in this economy, not everybody can buy a truck,” Brown said in a statement. “My goal is to change that by cutting spending, lowering taxes and letting people keep more of their own money.”

Really? In the Obama economy?
Could he and his elitist, condescending, special interest owned Party possibly be more out of touch with the everday realities of the average American?
How many pick-ups you see in your old community organized neighborhgood in Chicago, you schmuck!?

Scott Brown has a knack for saying exactly the right thing while he’s on his feet.
Thank God this man is positioned where he is at this particular time. The nation needs him there and needs him now.
Brown’s victory this Tuesday will give hope to other blue states and blue districts that we can smash the Democratic machine and roll back the liberal infrastructures.

We used to live two hours out of DC, off Rt 66. From our driveway to Manassas, about an hour, pickups were the majority vehicle on the road, from Manassas into DC, mile by mile, there were fewer pickups and more sedans until around the Beltway sedans far far outnumbered pickups.
Very noticeable. Very much a metaphor for the different “worlds.”

Do you all think your politics is limited to who you vote for? Everything you do is a vote for your politics. Shop at WalMart, it’s a vote for Obama; buy gas at BP, it’s a vote for Obama; Buy any product not made in America it’s a vote for Obama.
January 18th, 2010 | 12:41 am | #25
I used to work at a company that made hot tubs, in America, but everything they could buy from China they did, now they can buy what I used to do from China, so I am useless. I know many things, but it is worthless to them, it’s cheaper from China. There will be many things and people who will be in my situation soon.
January 18th, 2010 | 12:47 am | #26
If America doesn’t tax imports to the point that it is cheaper to make the product here, America WILL crash, and the rest of the world will crash with it. The only way to do this is to ban unions and “equal opportunity” in America and let people work for, and be rewarded for the work they produce.
January 18th, 2010 | 12:56 am | #27
taxing imports isn’t the answer. Taxing the imports from countries that refuse to open their markets to us is another thing.
I don’t think we need factories here making items sold at dollar stores. Our people should be making better things than that. Let India or China make the trinkets.

Eric: Congratulations, you’re the first one to consider taxing non-American products in order to bolster the economy — oh wait, no we already tried that with the Smoot–Hawley Tariff Act you might remember it being the first shot in a trade war that caused a 50% shrink in GDP during a thing called the “great depression”
That’s why you leave thinking to the smart people.

Bitter clingers to guns and religion. Now truck owners are in the cross hairs. Obama can’t stand that middle class Americans have made lives, buy houses, cars, send their kids to college and yes actually have healthcare without his permission.
I heard on Mark Levin that Obama is interested in finding a way to take our 401K’s and IRA’s. he would then give us monthly stipends for what he would call annuities. This would be a safe way to save Obama says because we wouldn’t have to worry about the stock market fluxuations. However, he would have our savings.

Spacegenie,
OOoo, look there is a history of the world that is a time called “the great depression”, exactly what is it that makes you think that borrowing more money than we produce is going to change the world economic profile?
America has within it’s borders, most of everything the world needs, and can make most of everything the world needs for the next 500 years.
After we have exhausted our resources for the world, do you think they won’t be thankful and let us live for free?
Why exactly do you think we should share our wealth with the world?
Is it because we have too much, they have too little, we are rich, they are poor, we are smart, they are stupid; What is it exactly that makes you think that America should give away everything for nothing?
January 18th, 2010 | 2:04 am | #35
America is the greatest land on the face of the Earth, and what makes it the greatest isn’t the land that it happens to be situated upon, no, what makes America great is the law that was written for the people who live on this land. Americas resources aren’t the most vast, the most clean, the most important in the history of the earth. Americas laws are the most vast, the most clean, the most important in the history of mankind. We pay more for everything we buy from others than anyone else will pay, and we take less for what we provide than anyone else would to provide it, and we always have. We give the lives of our military people to solve conflicts around the world and ask for nothing in return for their sacrifice.
January 18th, 2010 | 2:12 am | #36
spacegenie, if you are the smart people, then I pray to God you aren’t someone who is in charge of the place America should be going in the future. America has paid her dues, sacrificed her children and earned her place in the “global” citizenship that you apparently think the rest of the world has not been compensated for.
Shame on you.
Who do you think you are?

January 18th, 2010 | 6:44 am | #42
Yes, Eric, the problem is that it is cheaper to do many things in China and ship them across the vast Pacific. Why is that so? Could it be that the government here makes it so expensive to operate? Maybe too many regulations too many taxes? Maybe the government borrows too much and raises the cost of that as well? Maybe it caters to union block voters that strangle their industries with high costs (see textiles for most egregious example)?
The answer is not more taxes on trade (which hurts the consumer and only makes the problem worse) but to decrease the size of this Frankenstein’s monster that is the Federal government. Make it cheaper and simpler to operate here and jobs will flow back in. Drill here, drill now, use our own resources and employ Americans rather than buy from abroad. And… ah, you know where I’m going with this.
And, BTW buddy, I’m in the same boat with my job being outsourced to India. Would my employer rather have someone on the ground here as opposed to there? Sure, but they’ve got to contain costs to make a profit or the whole thing goes under.
So vote Brown and maybe this monstrosity of a healthcare bill will go down and maybe some businesses will start hiring again.
(Oh, and Obama is an elitist scum for slamming a man’s pick-up. Down south, them’s fight’n words…)

I’ve noticed one thing about people who drive trucks…
Whenever I’m in heavy traffic and am trying to make a left turn, or in a lot and am trying to get out into heavy traffic, it’s almost ALWAYS a person in a truck who lets me by.
People who drive trucks tend to be more courteous than people who don’t.
Just my experience.
January 18th, 2010 | 8:33 am | #47
I tried to find where I saw a comment and unfortunately I can’t find whether it was a public figure or a private citizen but either way it was very telling.
It was to the effect that since Scott Brown is a JAG lawyer and State Representative why does he own a truck.
That is why this campaign is cratering. It is because Martha Coakley and those surrounding her are elitists.
I am sure the gaff she made about Curt Schilling a Yankee’s fan was because she doesn’t pay any attention to the Boston Red Sox or any other sports teams.
To illustrate. Before graduating from tech school I had a falling out with my family. When I graduated tech school I got a job in Miami Florida. That was 9/81 when the Cardinals were in the 1982 World Series I didn’t even watch it.
No one in Florida ever talked about professional baseball since at the time there were no Florida MLB teams. My point is I was isolated by location and the lack of interests of my peers.

The pickup truck with a trailer hitch is the means by which American entrepreneurs in the trades can have a rolling workshop. This allows them to GO to ANY jobsite instead of having a fixed shop with rents, overhead and the requirement for customers to come to them.
This enables American tradespeople to have a higher standard of living than their counterparts in other countries.
The pickup is one important necessity to American Middle Class economic upward mobility.
Maybe the elites need to experience a strike of the tradespeople to appreciate them better. Who’s gonna fix their clogged toilet pipes, their busted water lines, their shorting wires, install new lights … roof, paint, decks …

If the truck has almost 200,000 miles on it, he probably could have traded it in the Cash for Clunkers program. The fact he didn’t shows me he’s the kind of guy who’s practical and down-to-earth. If the truck is in good condition and runs fine, no need to chunk it just to get something newer or fancier. He’s obviously not a slave to the trappings of status or appearances.
How many trucks have you owned Mr. President? If the answer is zero, how come? Are you afraid of what people might think? Would it make you look too middle-class? How many miles do you put on a vehicle before you trade it in for something “better” Mr. President?
Us common folk want to know.

For those of you who are calling for a heavy tax on all imports, I have a question: Which vehicle is more “imported”–a Honda made in Ohio, or a Ford made in Mexico? (I’m not saying there’s a right or wrong answer; I just want to know your thoughts.)
I’ve been buying cars from the Honda family for the past 20 years, and the main reasons have been reliability and value (I hung 338K miles on an Acura Integra a while back, and my Hondas have rarely been in the shop, which is important to me as a one-man business with six worksites). But I’ll admit that the fact that my car dollars don’t go to UAW members is icing on the cake.

In this economy, we will drive them until they won’t drive anymore. Not everyone can afford a new vehicle, Mr. President. You’ve said alot of stupid things, but that has to be one of the most assinine.
Do you see the unemployment numbers? Do you understand that even people with jobs are worried? Do you grasp the reality that many people are going hungry and without medicine because of this tax and spend government you’re running?

In our household we have two vehicles, a 1997 truck and a 1997 car, both with close to 200,000 miles each.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One car and one truck households are very common here in Texas. We’ve got a 1998 car – his dream car that he bought new and has babied – that looks like it did when he drove it off the car lot and runs almost as well, which, 12 years and 160,000+ miles later, is impressive. The other is an old GMC pickup, maybe a 1989 model, I’m not sure, that he bought used four years ago. It had been abused and needed a new transmission, which he did himself, and so it didn’t cost much in dollars but a lot of his sweat, some swearing and even a little of his blood (he leaves some under the hood of every car he works on LOL). It’s just an old work truck that we call Beater Truck. He keeps it mechanically sound but aesthetically, it’s a dog. It’s covered in little dents and dings, the interior smells funky, the driver side door doesn’t lock and only the outside door handle works, which means reaching out the window to let yourself out, which only requires rolling the window down in the winter because the ac quit working years ago. It’s an almost unbearable ride in the Texas summer heat. :o We don’t drive it much, for obvious reasons, but when we need a second vehicle or a work truck for moving things or something we don’t mind getting dirt in or on, it’s been invaluable. (So much for all conservatives and Republicans being rich, huh?)
Obamao is so out of touch. He doesn’t have a clue what it’s like for people like us who can’t afford to buy anything right now, especially anything as big as a new vehicle. He doesn’t know what it’s like to need the use of a pickup (working, hauling, off-roading, driving on icy or slightly flooded roads, etc.) because, like royalty, he does nothing for himself, hiring others to do his heavy lifting for him.
Scott Brown, otoh, knows what it’s like for John and Jane Q Public. And any Yankee who can appreciate the need for pickup trucks is all right by me.
January 18th, 2010 | 12:55 pm | #70
Obama asks GWB to help raise funds for Haiti, and GWB steps up: a selfish man would have responsded more like the Dems did when GWB asked for their support in a war they voted for.
Then the next speech Obama gives, he’s back to blaming everything on GWB.
What a study in contrasts: humility and graciousness, versus arrogance and churlishness.
Who’s reaching? Brown corrected Obamao, who said that anyone can buy a truck, by telling him that most people in this economy can’t buy a truck. His truck isn’t new. He’s put over 200k miles on it driving himself around and campaigning. (How much you wanna’ bet that Coakley has hired drivers to transport her around to campaign?) He never once bragged or called his truck awesome. You called it “awesome.” Perhaps you’re jealous because, even though it’s a non-issue, your libtarded pals would have you excommunicated for driving a pickup. Idiot.
The best part about Scott Brown’s ad is that he subtly advertises for OBAMA’s company, Government Motors, by showing an odometer reading of nearly 200K miles on a compact pickup truck that looks, to me, to be in excellent shape. His as is just so full of win. Oh, the IRONY…
mr president. i CAN afford a truck. i have had a few chevys. right now we have a 1996 chevy 2500 long bed, (8′) extended cab. we use it to haul hay. its a great truck. we’ve always bought chevy or saturn cars; to help out the us auto worker as much as possible. (understanding a “us car” is hardly a us car anymore). however, because of you and your elitist friends, your socilaist nationilizing of GM (among many other things), we plan to never purchase GM vehicle again. god help us, we said we’re looking at ford next time. we buy cars about every 7-10 years. we usually get about 300k out of them; sometimes it takes 2 engines. but we raraely buy new before repairing as much as possible. and next time, we’re looking ford. becuase of you. hopefully by the time we need that ford, you will be gone, and the damage you have done will be repaired and more pople will be able to afford a new truck. good riddance, clown.
Hey Now, you do not mess with a real man and his truck!!!! My husband has a 2001Toyota Tundra and I am not making this up, he has 380,000+ miles on it. We are both salesreps and put a ton of miles on our vehicles. I have a Toyota Solara and it has 180,000 miles and it is a 2005 that I bought used in 2007. Back to the truck though, we have wanted to buy a new truck but refuse to until it dies! The rate it is going we will put another 100,000 on it. Now having said that, we can’t afford a payment so we have been saving for a new one. Barack Obama has destroyed this economy so well, that as commissioned sales reps, our paycheck keeps going south. I am so excited for someone like Scott Brown, regular guy, doing so well in MA. Go Scott Go!!!
so nice to see what the dems think of the people. the crowd laughs at those common people who actually drive a truck not a bmw. you know the type,, the OLD Democrat party of working people. I am disgusted by this man and the people that defend him. They all believe that we are too stupid to do anthing for our self and need them to get us through life. BOTH parties feel this way. You voter guide should be 1- whomever is an incumbant is out 2-whomever spends the most money is out as well.
Everyone has missed the punchline of Obama’s ridiculing of Brown’s truck. Listen carefully after saying Martha might not want to get in the truck, he adds…. “you might want to look under the hood.” I don’t think he was refering to the truck hood. As a former speechwriter, I have a feeling that THIS was the ultimate message -as a reminder to his liberal audience about those rednecks who wear hoods.
Read what im saying and incorporate it into your brains, process it. “Every body can buy a truck” mean you don’t have to be a middle american farmer, plumber, construction worker, etcetera. Its in the reference that Scott Brown doesn’t say anything in his ad he just says i have a truck and i drive it, I have a truck and i drive it, i do insulation and concrete work, im just not dumb and i can think in reference to the frame of his comments, Scott Brown is also campaigning to be a senator, Obama was a senator, they are both politicians.
Obama is really showing his community organizing roots. He can’t come up with anything original so he just “redistributes” his opponents’ best lines.
Last summer he couldn’t stop talking about “death panels.” And now he and Coakley are yammering on about trucks and the “people’s seat.”
If Sarah Palin and Scott Brown had trademarked their ideas, Obama would have to pay up.
Jman:
I keep hearing from Democrats that the recession was caused President Bush, however I seem to recall that the Democratic party won Congress in 2006 and approved his budgets, didn’t they? Didn’t the Democrats promise lower Gasoline prices? utility prices? and stopping the war? They failed on all counts, and have actually passed policies to make prices more expensive.
I also hear from Democrats that the Republican deregulation of corporations and banks is to blame. Can you please point out to me what policies the Democrats are talking about, and much more importantly what measures they have taken to fix the regulations they claim were broke since they came to power in 2008?
Jman, you are so off base, especially on this topic, that it is not funny.
Kenpon, thanks for the video link. Very informative. Lots of info I had found out myself over the past two years and it was very nice to see it put together and validated. I had to read a lot of books and articles to put together what was mentioned on that film. I’m glad I did the first hand research because I know that everything they said was true.
Go Vote Scott Brown supporters.
I did my part in NJ in getting Corzine out and Christie in as our new Governor. I know you all will do the same for MA. Our message is the same: good Constitutional government, fiscal responsibility, get your damn hands off our money and our rights.
“anybody can buy a truck” – Obama
Sheesh, what a total creep. You’d have to be a real jerk to say that, especially if Mr. Brown has owned the truck long enough and used it often enough to accumulate that amount of mileage.
And that’s all he has to say against Mr. Brown? Criticize the fact that he owns and drives a truck?
What about Mr. Obama, who originally was driving a Chrysler 300 during his campaign for the presidency until criticism concerning the contradiction of his choice of vehicle along with his supposed concern for the environment forced him to trade to a Ford Escape hybrid?
Very weak, Mr. Obama, and oh, so out of touch.
