Obama spoke to 6th Graders in Falls Church, Virginia on Tuesday January 19, 2010.

He brought his TelePrompter.
He sure wouldn’t want to go off message when speaking to 6th graders.

How sad.
UPDATE: HotAirPundit says the TelePrompters were set up in the classroom for the press not the kids.

On closer examination of these photos:
http://www.daylife.com/search?q=obama+Graham+falls+church
Obama appears to be in two rooms… the floor coverings are different. One has cream tile and stools, the other has blue carpet and the podium with teleprompters — which is kind of suspicious EXCEPT the chalkboards have totally different designs on them, plus the globes and USA flags are in different places in the two rooms. Looks real, he just visited two rooms, one of which had a podium and teleprompter.
January 24th, 2010 | 7:29 pm | #23
Was the telepromptor for the question and answer portion? You know those kids will be told to ask the darnedest things!
January 24th, 2010 | 7:31 pm | #24
Looks like he has the speakers there
to sound all echo-y and omniscient.
In the 6th grade classroom.
January 24th, 2010 | 7:33 pm | #25
This is so spooky to me; aside from the fact he has no public speaking skills. (Maybe he should attend Toastmasters Club)
To make it short; the False Prophet:
Rev 13: 15 He (False Prophet) was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak…..
Rev 13: 1 (The Beast) He had 10 horns and seven heads with ten crowns on his horns….(probably a coalition of countries, during the 7 year tribulaton, joined together that derives their power from Satan.)
Gets really complex and tons of study.

Good spotting Down with Dems… I wonder why 2 rooms? TOTUS is there to give a canned script…errr….speech perhaps for media? parents?
The Q&A with kids in separate room & with secret service guy next to him (just in case a kid has a weapon?) – probably covered stuff without media there…
Weird… but of course, everything Bigears McSpendypants does is weird, scripted by handlers…

This is pathetic. Even Kevin Kline in the movie “Dave” (playing a presidential celebrity look-a-like who is pressed into service when the real President has a stroke) was more authentic and believable than THIS.
I believe it is entirely possible that when 0bama was in whatever hospital nursery he was born into, that over the crib were two chalkboards with the following words: “wah” and “wah”.
January 24th, 2010 | 8:16 pm | #44
First room defintely doesn’t look like a 6tth grade room with a story mat in it. Even the 2nd room looks young taking into account the art hanging on the walls.
I can’t imagine either of those rooms were big enough to warrant three speakers and when you are addressing young kids, do you really need a podium?
Gotta go see if I can find some video to see what he was saying that made a teleprompter necessary. Maybe he was looking for support for his health plan.

The speakers are monitors so he can hear himself. I can’t imagine why you would need those in a classroom sized space.

The teleprompters are at the correct heighth and angle for his nibs to use them. The dais elevates him; and he keeps his head up (nose in the air) anyway. They’ve been set like that for him in other pix that I’ve seen. (I thought the same thing as you at first – but they’re always that way.)

[The administration has not determined yet how many states will share the $4.35 billion. So far, 11 states have moved to change laws or policies that might undermine their chances of winning, the administration officials said.
Governor Deval Patrick signed a law Monday aiming to expand the number of high-quality charter schools within Massachusetts. Tennessee and Illinois also have loosened charter school restrictions.
Charter schools, which are backed by Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan, operate under contracts with school districts and are exempt from certain state and local regulations that govern traditional public schools.]

I, and many others, have seen a great deal of change in the economy and how we are perceived abroad in the last year. And let’s remember that being president is not an easy job and no matter your political persuasion, the office deserves our utmost respect and especially our deference to his decisions given that we can’t all be privy to the volume of information the president deals with every day.

Obama was speaking to a group of adults using the teleprompter to deliver a 5-minute speech. There is a Youtube video where he points to the audience and comments about how cute they look in the little chairs. The teleprompter is clearly visible as he walks into the room.
On the same trip, Obama and the Sec. of Education chatted with a group of 6th graders and sat on stools. It may have been a different part of the same room but I did not see the teleprompters.
What is sad is that I found the notion that Obama used a teleprompter to speak to 6th graders very credible. However, a little more research should be done before this kind of charge goes viral. It is only a matter of time before liberals ridicule conservative blogs for running this little story.

he really needed the teleprompter? What happened to a simple piece of paper and a little preparation? Bringing all that equipment probably cost the taxpayers ten thousand bucks.
January 24th, 2010 | 9:42 pm | #72
merle,
You are right, it is bad enough that he has to use a teleprompter to speak to a small room of adults. There is no need to take the focus off of that pitiful fact by accusing him of using TOTUS to speak to 6th graders.
January 24th, 2010 | 9:46 pm | #73

Barack Obama Brings His Teleprompters to Speak to a Class of Sixth Graders
Update II: Dan Reihl has an update that takes a lot of the humor out of the photo. A commenter left this nugget of information on Dan’s post (emphasis mine):
What is even more disturbing than the need to whip TOTUS out to talk to school kids is the purpose of Obama’s visit to that school. He was announcing his desire to put billions more into his program “Race to the Top” (RttT in Obamaland cutespeak) and also create a means for school districts to bypass the authority of their State Boards of Education in order to apply for federal RttT funds. What is so disturbing about this? One of the requirements of winning this federal grant money is that local school districts must contractually agree to adopt federal curriculum guidelines, even those that have not yet been defined by the Obama Administration. Yup….the federal core curriculum issue rears its ugly head again. Obama created the local school district bypass to these federal dollars in response to Rick Perry’s decision for Texas to opt out. Obama can’t stand Perry and the State of Texas….and was not about yield the chess board. Posted by: riograndevalleygirl | Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 10:41 PM

Sixth grader: I am not Johnny! I am Jimmy! And, that is none of your business!
0bama: Good to meet you Marie. Would you like be become an ACORN?
Sixth grader: My name is Michelle and I don’t like ACORNs.
0bama to teacher: What school is this? Oh, never mind there all the same and filled with crappy kids.
0bama: Hi Van. You’re very chubby for an Asian kid. Would you please give me your lunch money so that I can re-distribute it?
Sixth grader: My name is Tran and no speak much English. No money to give you. Why you wear white powder on your face?
0bama: Tran, you need a wedgie from Kevin Jennings. I bet that was your mom’s SUV blocking my Limousine’s path. Now give me your lunch money – or bend over for Kevin – you little brat.
Oh, what the use! These kids are little right wing brats who don’t swindle easily. This photo op is going down the toiled faster than my ratings. Let’s move the First grade room with the teleprompter, the alphabet book and the globe positioned to show Washington DC.
Ah, this is better. Two teleprompter screens, speakers and no crappy kids. I feel right at home speaking to my friends from the MSM without any real people. Chisum’s comments are correct. What Arne and Zero are saying and trying to do with the education of this country is frightening. This is a link to an article from the Chicago (Obama) Tribune: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/education/chi-renaissance-2010-17-jan17,0,3877012.story
The last two Chicago School Board Presidents, Rufus Williams and Michael Scott, have their own set of federal and state problems. Well, maybe not Scott because he shot himself in the head a few weeks ago. Almost all of Duncan’s brilliant ideas for the Chicago Public Schools have been dismal failures and now these same policies might soon be foisted on the whole county. Check out Arne’s credentials/CV too. Chilling information.

The current head of CPS and Mayor Daley pulled this stunt at the beginning of the 2009 school year: (another link to the Chicago Tribune) http://archives.chicagotribune.com/2009/aug/05/entertainment/chi-kass-birthday-sex-05-aug05
If you think no child should be lured/bribed back to school by promoting “Birthday Sex,” read the article. It is a funny read but was written to raise awareness of what passes for “education,” Chicago style, coming soon to a school district near you.

Get Real! No politician speaks to 6th graders – they are the flow-thru messengers – its a media event and will treated as one by the press. Criticize the guy for his actions, lack of actions, and/or policies instead of such bogus stuff.

Obama has and always will be a marxist talking head on the same level on intellect as Robert Gibbs.
Neither one has ever had an original thought.
Bagahdad Bob, Kenyian Obama, and Washington Robert true examples of brian dead pundits.

Why was Obama’s talk with the kids “closed to the press?” I mean, how insecure is a guy who won’t talk to kids in front of the press?
And really, should a guy as “smart” and “together” as Obama need a damn prompter to make a few remarks to the press?
I’m unimpressed.

I am far from an Obama supporter, but the photo with the teleprompter is in a different room than where he spoke with the students.
The teleprompter room has a carpet. The student room does not.
