What a disaster…
Sarah Palin and Sean Hannity agree, “I think this is going to be a huge ‘take away’ moment from the speech tonight.”
Justice Alito responded to Barack Obama tonight by mouthing “Not True” when the president attacked the Supreme Court for defending the First Amendment.
The cameras caught this “You Lie” moment tonight:
Via BreitbartTV
Glenn Reynolds has a roundup on tonight’s “You Lie” moment.
For the record… Obama deserves every bit of grief flung his way after his hyper-partisan speech tonight.

We can’t have foreign governments flooding our elections with money…unless, of course, it’s going to Obama.
We can’t turn over American tax dollars to fraudulent front groups (ACORN) so that they can funnel it to …Obama.
Obama stated tonight that he is against the U.S. Constitution, and Justice Alito called him on it..

Wow: forgiveness of student loans for community organizers (i.e. public service). Huh? Geez, used to be respect for American taxpayers and contributors to society, but there aren’t many left. Who’d make such a poor career choice now when the public pensions are… well, there are pensions.

Jim, I haven’t been this disgusted since President Clinton’s so-called mea culpa speech in 1998. I’m just dumbfounded.
January 27th, 2010 | 11:18 pm | #8
It’s one thing to disagree with a decision handed down by the Supreme Court. It’s totally another to chastise that court – the way the President chastised it tonight – in front of the entire world in a SOTU address.
One would think that a former Constitutional Law Professor would know and understand that the SCOTUS has the final say on all things legal in this country and it was a serious breach of protocol for the President to cross that line.
I saw Justice Alito’s reaction and just said “Oh My God!”.
Somehow, I feel we’ll be hearing a “bit” more about this in the weeks and months ahead.
One thing is for certain; that moment detracted from any other thing that was uttered by ANYONE on this night.

I counted two strikes at separation of powers:
POTUS ridiculing SOTUS (what a classless move)
Executive Order: Deficit Commission (composed of majority Democrats who can use it as a phoney ‘bipartisan tool’ to raise taxes because, we know, they feel our pain).
January 27th, 2010 | 11:26 pm | #11
Pat the First,
Snake Eater’s “boy” comment was itself a comment on a insufferable Moron Dowd article where she said that heard, implied, in the Joe Wilson comment, “You lie!” (boy)”.
Snake Eater’s comment was snark. Dowd’s was racist.

Perhaps Obama does not understand the make up of this government. There are 3 equal branches of government. Much as he would like to he doesn’t control anything but the executive branch. Attacking the Supreme Court is a first by a sitting President–at the State of The Union no less. If he hates this country and the American people so much he can always resign. Seems to be the thing to do among Dems this year.
January 27th, 2010 | 11:30 pm | #14
Is Obama trying to make friend on the Supreme Court? {sarc} Because they did not look amused. And last I heard, they get to serve for life. But then again, Obama has the instincts of a lemming.

Pat the First #4,
Derak #9 is right. Snake Eater #1 was just making fun of Maureen Dowd who said that she “knew” that Joe Wilson really meant “You lie, boy”. Nothing like putting words in peoples mouths! Hideous.

Barry is just upset that on this issue, he has absolutely no control of the outcome and absolutely no recourse. The Supreme Court wins!
Also, Barry wants congress to work to fixing some of the errors of the decision. Sorry, Barry, but this time the Supremes (under the highly capable leadership of a true constitutional scholar) corrected a mistake of the past. Congress shall make no law…….speech-press-religion. I predict some other changes will be forthcoming as some of the other portions are revisited in future appeals.
Facts are stubborn things, doncha know? That pesky constitution is just too darn specific on the powers of the federal government. So many details were retained to the states and the people.
That will be a defining moment in Obama’s term. Very unpresidential, total lack of respect, absolutely not appropriate!! Hmmmm, that begs the question of how to administer reprimand to the President for inappropriate behavior during such an event. I’m sure Nancy can come up with some sort of “official reprimand” since we know Obama is not capable of apologizing or of admitting he was wrong.
Did I doze off or something when surely the president discussed the Jihad Islamic Terrorist attack of Nadal Hassan at Ft. Hood, Texas. Surely the homeland security shortcomings were mentioned and I just missed them. Secure our homeland and enforce existing laws before you ask for more illegal amnesty.

What’s Obama kicking about? He made it to the top with no experience. His wife sits in the chamber wearing what must be a $10,000 dress. While in most homes in this country the American people are worried about how they’re going to make it through the year.
Calm down Obama you got more praise for less accomplishments than anyone in my lifetime. Enjoy it while it lasts — you are already last year’s rock star.

Obama was NOT a Constitutional Law Professor!!
[The University of Chicago released a statement on Thursday saying Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) “served as a professor” in the law school—but that is a title Obama, who taught courses there part-time, never held, a spokesman for the school confirmed on Friday.
“He did not hold the title of professor of law,” said Marsha Ferziger Nagorsky, an Assistant Dean for Communications and Lecturer in
Law at the school, on East 60th St. in Chicago.]

Dell, Sandy and Terry have hit the nail on the head.
Obama’s direct hit against the Supreme Court will only serve to hurt him down the road. How does he think the swing vote on the Court – Justice Kennedy – who authored the majority opinion – will feel after being publicly humiliated and ridiculed like that? And then all the congressional Democrats stand up and encircle the Justices while applauding wildly – as they sit there stone-faced. How’s that little piece of “Chicago Intimidation” going to work out for the One down the road??? — These men and women don’t stand for re-election – they serve for life!!! What a totally gratuitous, classless (not to mention totally unnecessary) below-the-belt kick in the groin!! What a piece of work this guy is!!!! This little chicken will come home to roost down the road — who in the heck is advising this guy????? This was so childish, petty and thuggish! In addition to the stunning disrespect paid to the Judicial Branch by the Executive Branch AND the Legislative Branch, Obama was either uninformed or demogoging beyond reason.
All that talk about foreign corporations had nothing to do with the Supreme Court decision. The ruling was on section 2 U.S.C. Section 441b. 2 U.S.C. Section 441e applies to foreign corporations and was not addressed in this case. At least, that is my current understandign of the case.
And the image of the trained seals who occupy the Legislative Branch applauding the disrespect of the Justices is beyond words. I can only state that these egomaniacs are far beneath banana-republic third world status in their extreme ideological self-idolatry.

0bama:
In all due disrespect for the Supreme Court of the United States, it sucks and has defied me. It has taken away my bag of crony tricks…
What’s did you say Alito? You will pay for that! And, don’t listen to Sarah Palin. She doesn’t’ belong to ACORN! Please, adjust the teleprompter. That’s better.
I urge Nancy Pelosi to get and another face lift and ram through a bill which will reverse the Supreme Court’s decision. Let me be clear, I will do everything in my power to intimidate the Typical White Conservatives on the Supreme Court. I will get 0bamacare rammed through so that Nancy Pelosi can get the Botox treatments she needs and some meds to stop her horrible blinking problem.
The State of the Union is a massive wreck. Unemployment is sky high and I have piled on so much debt that it’s hard to count the zeros. Yet, I have another scam that will replace my Carbon Credits scam. You may not like it but I call for taxes to be tripled on people with real jobs – not politicians .
Sure, my taxes may plunge the dollar to new lows but I am not worried. I have my Limousine, my Jumbo Jet and my lush government perks.
It’s not my fault that America sucks and is in the dumps. I only skimmed off half of all taxes dollars to payoff my cronies at ACORN. The other half went to EU countries that got a sweat heart deal on the AIG bailout. Pretty good trick?
As I look across all of the 57 states, I see that my tax and spend policies have impoverished them and enriched my cronies. I short, I have been the worst President since Jimmy Carter – and he really sucked.
I will put a freeze on discretionary spending – next fiscal year. That’s how budgets work. And, if the taxpayers still need more screwing, I will call my good friend Barney Frank. He knows how to muck-up Fannie Mae while paying off his minions.
Let me be clear, if I am a complete failure and get kicked out of Office I will blame it on Bush because Bush is to blame for all of my failures. America sucks. That’s all I have to say. Thank you.

The president’s statement is blatantly false.
The Court held that 2 U.S.C. Section 441a, which prohibits all corporate political spending, is unconstitutional. Foreign nationals, specifically defined to include foreign corporations, are prohibiting from making “a contribution or donation of money or ather thing of value, or to make an express or implied promise to make a contribution or donation, in connection with a Federal, State or local election” under 2 U.S.C. Section 441e, which was not at issue in the case. Foreign corporations are also prohibited, under 2 U.S.C. 441e, from making any contribution or donation to any committee of any political party, and they prohibited from making any “expenditure, independent expenditure, or disbursement for an electioneering communication… .”
This is either blithering ignorance of the law, or demogoguery of the worst kind.

Puh-lease. If this is such an acceptable practice, why don’t you name another POTUS who did the same thing during their SOTU address? Plus, his comments on this issue are absurd considering he raised hundreds of millions of dollars for his 2008 campaign — due in part to the disabling of the security features on his campaign Web site when accepting online donations, which probably resulted in foreign nationals donating to his campaign as well as Americans (and companies?) giving more to his campaign than the federal limits. Of course, he raised all of this money after bailing on his pledge to accept public financing for his campaign.
Nonetheless, he actually is so arrogant that he thinks he has credibility on the issue and lectures the members of the SC in front of an international audience. Is there a bigger hypocrite and jerk in national politics than Obama?

I am stunned – STUNNED – that Hannity and Palin would slam Obama’s speech, or that Jim Hoft would highlight the fact that they did so. Never saw that coming in a million years.
As if your reflexive slamming of conservatives for their slamming of Obama’s speech is any different than the behavior that you’re deriding. I guess this type of sophomoric response is easier than actually defending that pile of a speech last night. BTW, Hannity and Palin are critical of Obama (as they should be), but I still think their criticisms pale in comparison to the type of bile directed by Olbermann and Dean at Bush, including after Bush’s SOTU speeches.
As for the actual SOTU speeches, Bush didn’t make his SOTU speeches all about him, continuously blame his predecessor for his failings, or chastise a myriad of others that didn’t do what he wanted them to do, including the Supreme Court and congressional Republicans. Obama’s a petulant, thin-skinned fool without a modicum of leadership ability. How someone with such limited ability or experience could become POTUS should worry us all.

Yes, Bush really should have slammed Clinton more for leaving him with a huge surplus. Speaks to W.’s character that he didn’t do that.
I recall plenty of conservatives – quite possibly even the one who runs this blog – trying to place the blame for 9/11 at the feet of the Clinton administration. Nothing that occured from 2000 to 2008 was the fault of President Bush; it was all the evil Democrats.

Yes, Bush really should have slammed Clinton more for leaving him with a huge surplus. Speaks to W.’s character that he didn’t do that.
Clinton also left him with an economic downturn from the dot-com bust but I don’t recall Bush personally blaming Clinton for it, even in his SOTU speeches. Ironically, those dot-coms were a major reason why Clinton even left office with a surplus. The bottom line is that you couldn’t disagree with what I wrote — that “Bush didn’t make his SOTU speeches all about him, continuously blame his predecessor for his failings” — so thanks for proving my point through your avoidance of what I wrote and your attempt to shift the debate.

I recall plenty of conservatives – quite possibly even the one who runs this blog – trying to place the blame for 9/11 at the feet of the Clinton administration. Nothing that occured from 2000 to 2008 was the fault of President Bush; it was all the evil Democrats.
I know so because I read this blog regularly.
Once again, whether partisans here or anywhere else blamed Clinton for 9/11, Bush himself didn’t, which, once again, was my point. On the other hand, this inexperienced, in-over-his-head man-child that you undoubtedly voted for spent much of his SOTU blaming Bush. If Obama would prefer to be an Internet partisan (like you) instead of POTUS, he should not have run for POTUS because he’s embarrassing the office with his political hackery. He’s supposed to act like a leader in his role as POTUS, not a talking head or political operative yelling insults at their ideological opponents on one of the cable stations. Unfortunately, Obama acted like the latter last night, though he’s been acting like this for the past 12 months.
Let my just conclude by writing that you’re whole response didn’t rebut a single thing that I wrote about Obama and Bush. Instead, you took one small segment from my post then used it to pivot to what you (and most liberals, including Obama) want to talk about: Bush. This type of response can be an effective debate tactic, if the opponent falls for it (which I obviously didn’t), but it is intellectually dishonest and cowardly on your part. Just admit that you can’t defend the fraud that is President and leave it at that, Junior.

Slappy, um, I mean Senior, I think people hear in Obama’s speeches what they want to hear. You think he is arrogant and self-obsessed so you hear all the parts where he talked about himself (I don’t give up, etc) and miss all the parts where he talked about the American people, Wall Street, health care, foreign policy, etc. It says more about you than it does about him.

Junior, it says nothing about me other than I see the obvious. Obama’s desire to make every issue about himself through his speeches and public comments is not only narcissistic but a crutch for an inexperienced person that is simply not up to the challenge of being POTUS. When you don’t know much, you focus on the areas in which you know the most — in Obama’s case it’s himself. Just look at his desire to write two autobiographies before he was someone of public note. Tell me that isn’t arrogant and self-obsessed.
I also heard the rest of what he said and much of it is not credible coming from him based on his actual behavior as President and before that as a legislator. It’s just political posturing. Forget about his rhetoric. His instincts are to push far left policies, as was proven by his voting record in Illinois and in the U.S. Senate and in what he wanted to focus on in his first year as POTUS. Him now pretending he’s a centrist, like he did fraudulently but effectively in the 2008 campaign, and that he is trying to unite the country after ignoring the concerns of a majority of the country over the past year isn’t going to work with most Republicans or independents. Nonetheless, this insincere approach apparently is going to work with you. Then again, you don’t appear to have anything critical to say about the guy, though I and plenty of other conservatives publicly expressed plenty of problems with various policies of George W. Bush, especially in his second term.
BTW, your inability to address the actual topic and persuasively defend your point of view says more about you. Wasn’t this about how Obama personally blames Bush for his current problems while Bush didn’t personally blame Clinton for his problems, to which you responded by focusing on the behavior of partisan supporters of Bush instead of Bush himself before you tried to shift the debate to a different topic? Just admit that your previous post was weak and intellectually dishonest and we can let this discussion die.
