US Loses Another 20,000 Jobs But Unemployment Rate Drops to 9.7%

BB sent the latest unemployment graph.

It’s an Obama world. Up is down. Square is round. Trucks are jokes. And, losing 20,000 jobs actually brings down the unemployment rate.

The US lost another 20,000 jobs in January but the unemployment rate dropped to 9.7%. The new counting methods saved or created 541,000 jobs.
The AP reported:

The unemployment rate dropped unexpectedly in January to 9.7 percent from 10 percent while employers shed 20,000 jobs, the government said Friday.

The rate dropped because a survey of households found the number of employed Americans rose by 541,000, the Labor Department said. The job losses are calculated from a separate survey of employers.

The report also included an annual revision to the estimates of total payrolls, which showed there were 930,000 fewer jobs last March than previously estimated. The department also revised down its estimates for April through October of last year, adding another 433,000 job losses.

The November figure was revised higher, however, to show a gain of 64,000 jobs.

All told, the Great Recession has eliminated 8.4 million jobs, the department said. That’s the most of any recession since World War II as a proportion of total payrolls.

Obama can personally claim credit for the creation of all the new jobs for Scott Brown’s new staff due to his policies.

The unemployment rate dipped due to the increasing number of Americans who have given up looking for work.

It’s called despair. Workers who have lost hope aren’t counted as unemployed because they’re not actively seeking work.

Numbers lie, but it works for Obowma.

This crapola works because the MSM and most US citizens went to public school and are “innumerate.” That’s same same as illiterate except it’s about numbers and what they mean.

    See Prof. Paulus’ excellent books.

In all fairness the two reports use different methodologies and the difference in the two unemployment numbers reflect that. In our modern economy the Household Survey is likely the most accurate but it has always been necessary to delve into the guts of these reports rather than rely on the headlines.

Christina Romer just appeared on Varney’s show on Fox. He asked her 3 times – will you make the case that raising taxes on the wealthy will create jobs. She wouldn’t answer the question but in trying to dodge it, she demonstrated the depth of her fecklessness. (No small feat in itself, mind you.)

Sadly, I have never witnessed a larger gathering of clueless incompetents than the Democratic party. I struggle for an analogous symbol – does Lemmings work?

Funny, the media scoffed at the Household Survey during the Bush years, when small business start-ups were tracked by its usage.

As a tax preparer, I can attest to the number of small businesses being created due to frustrations in the job market.

Most small businesses do not show profits in the first, second, sometimes third years. Starting a business of any sort is a good way to claim a loss and offset any gain (read=tax liability) an individual or couple may have.

    From zerohedge:

“Yet a number that avoids some of the constant fudging by the BLS, the Non-Seasonally Adjusted number, hit a new recent record: instead of 9.7%, this number was 10.6%, a 0.9% increase from December!

The same can be seen in the U-6 data. NSA U-6 is now at a record 18%, even as the seasonally adjusted number declined to 16.5%.”

Labor participation rates and total employed also dropped in the initial report, which means that people continue to drop out of the workforce. Look for these numbers to get worse in the revisions later on.

This reminds me of the Health Care Shuffle. Collecting premiums for four years so that the “estimated” cost can be kept under one trillion dollars. That is a magic number to the Progressives because that is the amount the Democrats have been using against the “useless” wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I’m sure that someone somewhere has assigned the magic number for unemployment to be less than 10%.

Just like the American public isn’t solely focused on the costs for nationalizing Health Care, the American public isn’t focusing solely on the 10% mark for unemployment.

We are not ignorant! We see what is going on because more and more people are believing that either the Obama Administration doesn’t have a clue how to run the government or they are hell bent to promote their socialistic agenda.

Unfortunately for them more and more people are believing, as I have all along, that it is the latter.

Here’s a question. Is Obama’s economy destroying the health of Americans? Because of the high stress levels of all the unemployed, (health issues like high blood pressure, heart disease, etc. ) is he contributing to higher health care costs? I don’t think this is a stretch. Reportedly, dentists are reporting very high levels of teeth fractures from people grinding their teeth while sleeping—due to stress.

There were also in the same BLS report a reference to 900,000 jobs that had been ommitted March 2009. Deception or “innocent error”?

900,000 more unemployed than reported is horrible.
The Resident Obama is taking credit for farm jobs. They have been declared as “green jobs” according to wiki. When farming ramps up with field work in the spriing, he can take the glory for creating new green jobs. A farmer driving a green John deere Tractor counts as 2 green jobs.

OT: After all of the rush and the many deadlines last year, including one in the middle of the night, not to mention all of the time wasted on the 3000 page monstrosity, because he insisted it had to be done immediately and first in order to save the economy, now it takes a back seat to a second porkulus package. Obamao and his minions are bound and determined to do whatever will harm America most and to get that done first.

    The Associated Press
    Thursday, February 4, 2010; 7:10 PM

    At The Washington Post

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says “we should take our time” getting to a final health care bill.

He said Thursday he wants to go through the legislation in detail with Republicans to examine their ideas and Democratic ideas to see whether there are better ways to improve the nation’s health care system than have already been proposed.

Obama said that letting some time pass before calling for a vote also will allow “everybody to get the real facts.”

The president spoke to donors and supporters of his political organization, Organizing for America, one of a handful of fundraisers he was headlining Thursday for Democrats.

Obama said it is most urgent to focus now on a jobs package, but that health care must be addressed afterward.

Sounds like they are using the same model as the Global Warming alarmists. That’s the only way to add ‘nuance’ to the stats to make a loss into a gain.

This administration has turned ‘the more outrageous the lie, the more likely it will be believed’ into an artform. Too bad, for them, that the American people are finally beginning to waken from their self-induced political coma.
