It figures. When Obama attacked the Supreme Court at his hyper-partisan State of the Union address he relied on an old Jim Crow law to make his point.
Justice Clarence Thomas was not amused.
Rhymes With Right has the details:
Justice Clarence Thomas is regularly attacked and denigrated by left-wingers who struggle with the notion that there can be an intelligent, educated black man who is capable of thinking for himself. Actually, I take that isn’t quite right. I really ought to have put the period after “man”. But so expansive is his knowledge of the law, the Constitution, and the history of both that he can pull this obscure point out of his judicial robes to point out just how pernicious the impulse to allow government to censor speech really is.
He added that the history of Congressional regulation of corporate involvement in politics had a dark side, pointing to the Tillman Act, which banned corporate contributions to federal candidates in 1907.
“Go back and read why Tillman introduced that legislation,” Justice Thomas said, referring to Senator Benjamin Tillman. “Tillman was from South Carolina, and as I hear the story he was concerned that the corporations, Republican corporations, were favorable toward blacks and he felt that there was a need to regulate them.”It is thus a mistake, the justice said, to applaud the regulation of corporate speech as “some sort of beatific action.”
Yeah, that is right. Barack Obama stood before the people of the United States and praised legislation introduced by a fellow Democrat who preceded him in the US Senate, one of the most vile enemies of African-Americans to ever serve in the United States Senate, a despicable man who owed his election to public office to his participation in an armed assault upon a body of black soldiers during Reconstruction and the lynching of several of these soldiers, and a dangerous demagogue who was censured for his physical assault of another Senator on the floor of the US Senate and barred from the White House over the incident.

Wow, so Obama doesn’t vet his appointments NOR does he fact check his speeches before giving them… not really a surprise. This one could bite him in the a$$.

I’m sorry, but could somebody spell out to me exactly where Obama “praised” the Tillman act? I admittedly fell asleep during his interminable SOTU, but I don’t see the reference in any of the linked stories.

Thomas has always been awesome. The no-qualification for anything Obama had the nasty cheek to repeat the Democratic Party racist construct that Thomas wasn’t “experienced enough.”
Maybe it was Obama’s white slaving roots showing.

Amazing connection – great find, Jim.
I do so love it when info about the Democrats surfaces, even if only for a media second, regarding their participation and alignment during the civil rights era – it gets the people thinking, the cognitive dissonance clanging in their heads as they try in vain to get two completely opposite “truths” to coincide:
A) Democrats are the party who care about us, and Republicans are the party which is synonymous with Racism, and
B) Democrats wrote every single racist law this nation ever had, formed the KKK, created the ghetto, use blacks as pawns for their power, lionize the woman who wanted to exterminate them (and accept awards named in her (dis)honor…HI HILARY!), while Republicans were fighting these racist Democat policies every step of the way.
Like I say, that info, or even hints about that info, which has been almost completely buried by the culture, the media, and the education system since the late 60’s, is nice to see being actually SPOKEN by a normally ball-less Republican. I wish more would speak up, too.
Unfortunately that hint of the real, buried past will likely be the only public utterance about this for the next couple of years, because Republicans with mics and cameras on them are WUSSIES, showing perpetually that they are shameful and dishonorable for staying silent on this matter for so long, while the slavery continues apace in every single ‘HOOD in this country, and the “we love us some black people” Democrat leaders continue to use them for votes, power, fame, and billions of dollars.

Skeptic #5:
SOTU:
“With all due deference to separation of powers, last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests, including foreign corporations, to spend without limit in our elections.”
Justice Thomas is saying that “the history of Congressional regulation of corporate involvement in politics had a dark side, pointing to the Tillman Act, which banned corporate contributions to federal candidates in 1907.”
Obama is whining that he thinks the Supreme Court reversed restrictions on corporate involvement in politics. Thomas is saying that Tillman (a Dem) WANTED those restrictions in order to prevent Republican corporations (who were favorable to blacks) from being able to get involved in politics (and help blacks).
Thus, our half black president opposes what he sees as the reversal of a law that was put in place to stop Republican corporations from helping blacks.

No wonder the Dark Side worked so hard to stop Justice Thomas -from affirmation to the Supreme Court…even resorting to LIES—Anita Hill anyone…an alleged liar – —OH – that’s right – Lucifer’s kids ( the Dark Side) always lie….

Thomas actually lived thru Southern discrimination but for Obama it’s all thereoretical, so of course Thomas would make the connection while Obama is ignorant of it.
But Thomas has spent his adult life getting people to correctly adhere to the Constitution, Obama has spent his adult life attacking the Constitution.

Good shot, by Justice Thomas. I guess if you want to pick on someone on Constitutional law, probably ought to take a pass on the Supreme Court. Even someone who was a law school lecturer should know that.

Educated people, vs. merely trained, learn always to put unalloyed assertions in context and perspective. In contrast to BHO’s superficial quota-baby natterings, Justice Thomas has the intellectual curiosity and personal integrity to delve into background circumstances.
“Pitchfork Ben” Tillman, a Confederate Army volunteer, led “paramilitary” (read proto-KKK) forces during Reconstruction. A Byrd-in-waiting, he assaulted Federal troops at the head of a gang of “Red Shirts” during the so-called Hamburg Massacre of July 1876, when racist thugs confronted black National Guardsmen parading on Independence Day. The incident reeks of the demagogic crypto-fascism characteristic of many a Democrat incumbent well past the country’s Bicentennial.
As Democrat Governor of South Carolina Tillman presided over a State Constitutional Convention which disenfranchised black voters and established terroristic Jim Crow laws. As U.S. Senator from 1894 – 1918, his Tillman Act of 1907 used “campaign finance” to suppress blacks’ First Amendment rights expressed through hated “Yankee” (read Jewish) banking and railroad interests.
In this light, we applaud Justice Thomas’ disciplined self-restraint and genuinely wonder: What mindset is it that sets rancid collectivist Statism over the most fundamental principles of Jeffersonian democracy set forth in Federalist Papers by Hamilton, Madison, and Jay? When Reid/Pelosi-crats in thrall to their putrescent Barry-O join “Pitchfork Ben” and his Red Shirts, we are ‘way past the stage of “politics-as-usual”.

Come, on, Barack! I didn’t go to Harvard and I know about “Pitchfork Ben” Tillman. For a quick update: http://projects.vassar.edu/1896/tillman.html
A Southern Democrat Populist Racist. There have been many of them, just look at the opposition to the Civil Rights Acts of 1964-65.

This kind of blunder by BO could explain why he thinks the Constitution needs to be “fixed.” Maybe all he knows about Constitutional law is the Red Diaper baby’s version of it, because he never read it for himself.

I think the person who defined “hypocrite” must have had a conservative type person in mind. In what was GWB qualified??? To do anything???
I’d also LOVE to see the evidence from the person who claimed that “all” racist legislation has been written by Democrats.

BE CIVIL?
By Frances Rice
It’s a sure sign that Republicans are winning a debate on issues when Democrats, aided by well-meaning civility police pundits and activists, demand that Republicans stop showing their passion and “be civil”.
I am still waiting for those with such a keen sense of civility to demand that Democrats cease their unrelenting and uncivil, even racist, attacks
on black Republicans. I won’t hold my breath.
High on the Democrats’ list of those to be denigrated are accomplished black Republicans who do not toe the Democrats’ liberal agenda line. Shamefully, Democrats do not want poor black children to have as role models any black person who does not engage in victim mongering and works hard to become prosperous rather than become dependent on government handouts.
The message that Democrats gives to poor blacks is despicable. If you remain poor, uneducated and vote for Democrats, we will celebrate your victimhood. If you get a good education, get a good job and vote for Republicans, we will denigrate you as “acting white”, a “sellout”, an “Uncle Tom”, a “House Negro”, a “House N-word”, a “Lawn Jockey”, and worse..]
