Unreal. There really is nothing they won’t do or say to get this nationalized health care bill rammed through Congress.

Obama says a St. Louis supporter who died of breast cancer because she didn’t have insurance and put off having the kind of exams that she needed. Obama said she will be buried in an Obama T-shirt.
Even the audience laughed at this story – But not Obama:

It’s just too bad this woman didn’t call St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Louis. They offer free breast exams to women who are in need of assistance.
I suppose that’s Bush’s fault, too.

UPDATE: Donna found this out on the deceased woman who was buried in the Obama t-shirt. I suspect there is more to this story than is reported here.

“Melanie had health insurance coverage. Sort of. Back in 2005 she was an entrepreneur struggling to grow her small business. She could only afford a catastrophic health insurance policy with co-pays and deductibles nearing $10,000.

So when the lump came, denial seemed the most pragmatic option. When diagnosis finally followed, the cancer had spread through her body to bone, lungs and liver. It was Stage 4 breast cancer.

At this point, Melanie had some coverage, in the form of Missouri’s Medicaid program – a public option, if you will. And she got better, for a spell. But then her private carrier denied coverage for a treatment her oncologist had recommended. She appealed, to no avail.”

People actually thought it was a joke and laughed at the punch line. Hussein looked so startled when they laughed, because he takes his adulation seriously. BTW – the woman had insurance, but she didn’t want to pay the $5,000 deductible.

She should have run down to the local ACORN office where they would have told her how to get some Obama Money and all sorts of other free stuff.

Even though it was another example of his extremely.. .(err… ludicrously) high self-regard, doesn’t seem like a moment to laugh.

He always quotes these sad stories as if there was no hope for her to get treatment. What is this, 1642 or something?

That was creepy. First he said it was a letter to him to him and then it became a note from his staff. The poor woman believed in Obama so much that she crawled from her sick bed every day to campaign for him and because Obama was such and all consuming force in her life she wants to be buried wearing an Obama t-shirt.
    Who would doubt that….?
I’ll bet she even wants her headstone inscribed Barack Obama…mmmm mmmmm mmmm”. Maybe her family can find those school kids who sang the Obama song to come sing at her funeral. It would be a nice touch

I am just curious as to what kind of car she drove and how many big screen TV’s she had in her house?

My guess is she didn’t choose to sacrifice on goodies to buy something as mundane as health insurance. The reason she didn’t apply for the “free” breast exam was that she didn’t qualify financially.

First of all, with busy schedules, I know many women that delay going to the doctor.
    Not good.
Women have to learn how to make time and take care of themselves. In this era of trying to have it all, sometimes our own selves fall through the cracks.
Second of all, they didn’t say what kind of treatment was denied? Right now, if your private insurance denies treatment you have recourse to appeal through the federal licensing board which oversees insurance private insurance companies.
Who are you going to appeal to if the government denies your treatment?
The article states that she was on a Medicaid program, “the government option,” if you will but her private insurance denied treatment?
    Which is it?
I have someone close to me who recently battled breast cancer in NY and what we said through the whole ordeal was “Thank God,” we have the doctors and the treatments available to us here in NY. She didn’t wait when she found the lump. She didn’t have to wait to see a doctor or get a second opinion and she didn’t have to wait for surgery or reconstruction.
Compare US survival rates to the survival rates in other countries.

Breast Exam Guidelines Test Obama Cost-Cutting

[The new guidelines would reduce annual mammograms by more than half under a “worst-case scenario,” said Junaid Husain, a Boston-based analyst at Soleil Securities, in a note to investors Nov. 17. Senator Sam Brownback, a Republican of Kansas, said the task force’s recommendations represent the start of an Obama administration plan to ration health care to pay for its overhaul.]

My heart goes out to this woman and her friends and family. It is sad that she didn’t seek help sooner. Early detection is key to proper diagnosis and treatment.

“So when the lump came, denial seemed the most pragmatic option. When diagnosis finally followed, the cancer had spread through her body to bone, lungs and liver. It was Stage 4 breast cancer.”

I find it appalling that Obama is politicizing her untimely death to admonish those who oppose his oppressive health care bill.

I’m very sorry for her, especially since I am a cancer survivor.

However, once you are at Stage 4 and terminal, most treatments are considered experimental. They are very expensive. Does anyone think government health care is going to pay for bone marrow transplants or experimental treatments for someone who is terminal???

I guess Teddy had too many faults, too many drunken episodes and all that baggage from leaving a young staffer in his car to drown while seeking cover politically. Someone gets the bright idea: Hey! Let’s use this everywoman who so loved The Anointed One that she wants to be buried in an Obama T-shirt because of greedy Health Care Conglomerates. Reading some other information on this woman I have learned that she was diagnosed 4.5 years ago when she was roughly 37. I don’t think Government health care would have provided mammograms for someone that young.

Also, she was cremated, not buried (but how was Obama to know? He just reads what’s there)

If people want to blame anyone for this woman’s death they should look at the Democrats who had a majority in both houses and almost a full year to pass the number one item on their agenda and couldn’t get their act together and do it. (There is no one to blame for this woman’s death because any health care plan would have to have been passed 15 years ago to help save this woman since the Feds want to collect taxes for years prior to providing a service. Hmmm is it Clinton’s fault?)

So in other words, this woman was too stupid too survive. She could have gotten free exams at a hospital, but was helpless to do a bit of research on the Internet – you know, spend 30 seconds Googling for “Free Breast Exam” – without someone from the government taking her by the hand and taking care of everything for her.

If this woman was a resident of New Orleans during Katrina, she would have drowned outside her home waiting for the school bus to come by and pick her up. Hell, if she was a turkey, she would drown in the rain, looking up to see where the drops were coming from.

Just to clarify something…it is possible to have private insurance and Medicaid . Medicaid acts as the secondary/supplemental insurance and pays what the private insurance doesn’t. Of course you still have to meet the income requirements. Sounds like that’s what this woman had, but apparently she waited too long for her original exam and treatment and whatever advanced treatment that was recommended was turned down. I’m not sure whether Medicaid would have stepped in and covered it or not.

Obama’s little faked, emotional speech was so disturbing on so many levels, it’s outright scary. I am breath-taken that our leader would choose the ugly death via cancer of an individual to STAMP HIS NAME ON HER CHEST and try to manipulate everyone else into doing what he wants.

There is a very special corner waiting for this one in Hell. Pray for a leader, America.

So, did Obummer violate HIPAA (?) guidelines by publicizing all this information about Melanie? Did he have a release from Melanie?

My mother in law died from breast cancer. We have universal health care. It did not save her life.

My late sister’s cancer, which apparently was primary bone cancer was not discovered until 6 weeks before she passed away. We have universal health care”

My cousin Peter, died within six weeks of his kidney cancer being discovered. We have universal health care.

Women under 30 can die as a result of getting an aggressive form of breast cancer.

From what I saw about this story elsewhere, it would have been wasting money for her to have had any further cancer treatment. If her body was already riddled with the cancer then it was too late.

    Getting early treatment saves lives.

p.s. one of the best oncologists in Australia died as a result of having a glioma, a brain tumor that is very, very aggressive. I am sure he had more than universal health coverage, just like the parents of a three year old that died from the same brain tumor.

People die whether they have insurance or not.

I’ve said it all along, and I’ll say it again … we don’t have a health care crisis in this country. Our health care system works just fine. It’s our insurance system that needs some tweaking. Like they always say … “don’t throw the baby out with the bath water”…. Some minor changes to the insurance system that ensure portability and universal coverage will cost us all a little more, but I’d rather pay the money directly to the insurance companies. Letting the government get their fingers in the pie will cost us all dearly, in quality and in price.

We also have to face reality and resign ourselves to the fact that everyone has a stake in health care and everyone has to contribute to the system in one form or another. Letting millions of people who don’t or won’t contribute to the system (either through premiums or other income based credits) draw benefits simply won’t work. Making those who pay their fair share pick up the tab for illegals or any other non-contributors is Socialism, and the people of this country have made their voices clear … they won’t stand for it.

His game is falling apart as it becomes apparent he has only two clubs to use:
    (1) The “Blame Bush Bloviater” which has lost all its drive, but still is the default from the tee for the lack of anything more powerful.
    (2) The “Pitifully Disingenuous Puttzer” which moves the ball around some but rarely works as intended, perhaps because the laminated horse & bull crap which forms it is so intrinsically unstable.

Since Obama inaugural, Republicans have had to face a series of “cr@p sandwiches” that they have been presented. HCR was just one more.

Besides if HCR had passed the afternoon of the Obama inaugural, Melanie Shouse would still have to wait 3 more years for the benefits part of the legislation to kick in, while her “friends,” the Democrats collected (and spent) taxes and said there was nothing they could do.
