Speaker Pelosi tells democrats to sacrifice their career for the unpopular health care bill.
(At 2:50 mark)

“They know that it will take courage to pass health care. But why are we here? We’re not here just to self-perpetuate our service in Congress. We’re here to do the job for the American people to get them results that gets them not only health security but economic security because the health issue is an economic issue for America’s families.”

Pelosi tells democrats to sacrifice their careers for Obamacare.
The AP reported:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urged her colleagues to back a major overhaul of U.S. health care even if it threatens their political careers, a call to arms that underscores the issue’s massive role in this election year.

Lawmakers sometimes must enact policies that, even if unpopular at the moment, will help the public, Pelosi said in an interview being broadcast Sunday the ABC News program “This Week.”
“We’re not here just to self-perpetuate our service in Congress,” she said. “We’re here to do the job for the American people.”

It took courage for Congress to pass Social Security and Medicare, which eventually became highly popular, she said, “and many of the same forces that were at work decades ago are at work again against this bill.”

I think she meant to say, “To do a job ON the American people.”

BTW, both Social Security and Medicare themselves should be deep-sixed as well.

It would take wisdoem for Congress to fix the problems they already created before launching another huge entitlement program we can’t afford.

She lies. It is all about self-perpetuating their service and prestige. For many representatives this is one of the best jobs they’ve ever had with life-long benefits. They are not apt to self-destruct going along Pelosi who is wealthy and doesn’t need the job. She can afford to chase pipe dreams to satiate her ego. Besides, it is possible she may not be in charge much longer.

Thanks to Lyndon B. Johnson opening up the Social Security vault in 1965, both Social Security and now Medicare are BROKE. And she wants that very same government to run health care for 300 million people?

These idiots can’t even run the Post Office out of deficit spending and they want more power.

Personally, I don’t want Democrats OR Republicans running anything. Their track record is pathetic.

I read an article a couple of days ago, and now I cannot find it. Either American Thinker or PJM, I can’t remember. Perhaps Bungalow Bill.

The gist was a comparison between these Democrats and the apocolyptic Shia Islam subscribed to by the mullahs of Iran. The mullahs don’t really care if, when attacking Israel with a nuke or a “dirty bomb”, millions of Arabs in the surrounding states also die – in Egypt, Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan. They also don’t care if Israel, as their final act, launches a retaliatory strike at Iran. Bringing about the End of Days is more important than any of that to the Mahdiists.

The Dems are, right now, in a similar situation. If they get their programs through and vastly increase the size of government right now, the changes will outlast the next, out-of-power cycle, especially when betting on the predictable inability by the Republicans to reverse those changes when they have power.

They’re not in this for votes, for re-elections. They don’t need them.
All that matters is their Plan: destroy the American system and the Socialist utopia will rise from the ashes.

Most of what I just wrote was cribbed from what I remember of the article. If someone knows where the heck it is, post it.

Let’s call a spade a spade here. The Democrats HAD a 60 vote, filibuster proof Senate and still couldn’t pass anything more than gas!

Now they want to go the nuclear route with reconciliation because, they say, the Republicans are obstructing. That’s not even close to accurate. They want to use reconciliation because they can’t even get the DEMOCRATS to vote for this crap. Harry, Nancy and the fraud in the White House will try reconciliation because their own party won’t vote for their Socialist legislation.

Dell, there is no man, woman, party or human institution that can save us at this point. It may sound like pessimism, but it’s not. Christ gave us clues about his return, which are recorded in the Gospels, and one does not have to be a devotee of “Blues Clues” or a master of Parker Brothers’ “Clue” to see that the days are upon us.

A new heaven and a new earth are hopes higher, not to mention more probable at this point, than any I can muster for any Republican, Democrat, or Tea Party plans.

One has to wonder the mental gymnastics required to reconcile the two points Pelosi makes. Much wanted healthcare and career suicide. If America truly wanted the healthcare then is would be job security to pass it.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the schools taught critical thinking skills and every citizen could see the hypocrisy of Pelosi’s statement? It must be reassuring to Pelosi knowing that a dumbed down educational system dovetails so nicely with the liberal agenda.

Perhaps the botox has tainted her thinking, or it’s just because of she is a liberal, but I am tired of being told what I need or want.

Her party looked horrible at the health care summit. They thought the Republicans were going to come in with their hands behind their backs, but they came prepared. Obama and his minions looked like a bunch of whiny elitists who aren’t getting their way (or their tenure).

There will be hell to pay in November if Democrats pass this (either way, they are going to lose seats). And then we get to see Bambi whine and whine when he doesn’t have his majority anymore.

This is not even a logical argument, but that’s no surprise from that nutbag Pelosi.

Congress is there to do the will of the people. If there is a bill whose passing will result in angry people voting out those in Congress who passed it, that means that the bill is not the will of the people.

You’re not working for the people if what you do makes them so mad they vote you out.

(Unless you think the people are too stupid to realize what you’re doing is good for them, which is what Pelosi, Reid, Obama, and the rest of the Democrats think).

What she’s really saying is: sacrifice your careers so the government can take over even more control of the American economy. We’ll suffer politically for a while, but we’ll make a comeback, and the ultimate goal is government control of as much of American life as possible no matter what the short term temporary costs are to the Democrats as a party.

When Social Security and Medicare were passed — it was with the votes of both parties and had popular support by the American people.

Whatever you think of Medicare Lyndon Johnson won in a genuine landslide. He could have passed Medicare with his Super Majority but decided that the bill would not be legitimate unless Republicans voted for it as well. It would never occur to this master legislator former Senate Majority Leader to go it alone.

Wonder if its occurred to Pelosi that she will also lose he Speakership when the Dems lose Congress. I’m sure she has VP plans cause she has the President’s ear doncha know.

Dell — Moe Lane from Red State yesterday.

…and I’d like to add my two cents: it won’t work anyway. People like to talk about how government programs and agencies never die, once instituted, with the Great Society and the New Deal being the most used examples. What’s not mentioned is that both of those programs were popular. People wanted a Social Security program. They wanted Medicare. They do not notably want this monstrosity of a health care bill*. And if the Democrats decide to (and manage to) force it down our throats anyway, Republican legislators will find a way to shut it down in January 2011. The government has had over two and a quarter centuries to develop bylaws, operational procedures, codicils, and whatnot; there is always going to be a legislative fig leaf, suitable for framing and rationalization.

I consider this bill dead. But if the Democrats are so determined to resurrect it, fine: we’ll just prune their internal power structure down to the roots in November and kill the bill again in January. In fact, that sounds kind of fun.

It is easy for Pelosi to say this, since she has nothing to lose.

    Doesn’t she mean “Pelosicare”?

Barack Obama’s idea was to bring all the ideas together, and debate them in good faith on TV in front of the American people. He made a promise that was not within his area of action. That one would have had to have been fulfilled by the leaders of the House and Senate.

Obama could promise all he wanted, when it came down to fulfillment, he had to rely on the leaders of another branch of government (members of the Democratic Party), and they haven’t delivered.

Obama hasn’t bothered to publicly mention this. He could have used his office as a “bully pulpit” to get that transparency and encourage a decent debate. All he would have had to do is say it, publicly, once, that this debate really should be televised.

It takes courage to spend other peoples’ money. All of it. Ours, our children’s, our children’s children, China’s, Japan’s… If there is any left, you didn’t have courage.

The Ed Morrisey article previously mentioned can be found at http://hotair.com/archives/2010/02/27/are-democrats-choosing-to-run-off-a-cliff-with-obamacare/

Gist of it is that Dems want to destroy economic system of the country more than they even want to keep their jobs. Obviously, this isn’t true of all Dems, or they would have passed this monstrosity a lot sooner. Now they have to pass it post-Massachusetts, and it will be harder. The inane notion of trying to cut costs on other entitlement programs by creating another one could only be accepted by people who don’t have to live in the real world. Pelosi’s re-election of course is guaranteed: it’s easy for the people in the lifeboats to tell the people on the Titanic not to give up the ship. Pelosi’s consistuency is wacko San Francisco. She could run through the Capitol nude at high noon and still be re-elected.

I’m betting Speaker Pelosi has been promised a nice position within the upcoming Totalitarian government.

When the cradle-to-grave control over all civilian’s life and death legislation is passed, there’s only one more thing the administration needs Congress to do….. Cap & Trade.

After that, Congress will basically be irrelevant for the administration and the November elections won’t matter.

Executive Orders, plus ‘nudging and tweaking’ existing laws by fiat regulation are how things work these days.

Neovatara/#26.. ‘it’s easy for Pelosi to say this.. since she has nothing to lose..’ spot on, Neo.. thinking that thought exactly.

If ‘lesser Dims’ have to fall on their swords for BOLD OBAMA’S health monstrosity, Pelosi and Reid should have to lead by example, don’t you think?
If this is so friggin’ important, someone ought to suggest that THEY (safe in their bunkers) get out in front and prove the point: Pelosi & Reid, announce that upon casting your YES vote, you are RESIGNING from your offices and will NOT run for re-election. ( I’m sure there are other in your district or state equally or more liberal to carry your banner).. only fair, Nan.. no itsy bitsy steps.. all the way.. if they’re expendable so are YOU.

When we get government health care we’ll have to throw it unlimited money to keep ourselves physically alive. Years from now we will not blame Obama or the Dems for the bad care we are receiving. No, we won’t blame them. We will be told then who to hate.

If you’re sacrificing your career for the vote – then you are BY DEFINITION, not representing the people of your district. If your district was happy with your vote (or the majority were happy), then they would not vote you out for it.

I think this approach will lead to destabilization. People will not be eager to follow or be led by a government which has such distain for them and does not represent their true interests.

Social Security has been revealed as a Ponzi scheme, which will be broke in a short time.

Medicare by Obama’s own admission, wasteful and filled with fraud; plus it is also approching insolvency.

And the Won wants to create a new entitlement program which is unsustainable, and will burden taxpayers even more?

And he expects us to buy this?

Byron York wrote an interesting article this week on how the Dims employed this big BOLD policy meme in Kerry’s run for President & are recycling it to ram health control through.. (Nan’s ‘bold-speak’ strategy certainly plays to party base during open wallet season for election donors too):

Umpteen Democrat congressmen can sacrifice their political careers for Pelosi’s career and putatively the Democratic Party.

Or they can sacrifice Pelosi’s Career for the sake of their careers and the country’s basic freedoms.

So what’s it going to be?

Central planning/collectivism has worked so well everywhere else!

Check out Zimbabwe, Cuba, USSR, etc. Bigwigs in Canada come to the US for medical treatment. Check the cancer survival rates in America vs. Britain and Canada. Most importantly, Congress won’t be stuck with Obamacare.

Now, let’s do it to America!!! BOHICA!

The federal government has seized sufficient power to destroy the people. What would that be named? I think tyranny.

The problem with excessive government power/statism/collectivization/central planning is that the government, in general, and congress, in particular, are populated with idiots and the ones that aren’t morons are evil.

Someday someone will realize that there is no such thing as free lunch and that there is no way that people can live off other people.

This attempt at emotional blackmail is proof that she does not have the votes to pass Obamacare even with arm twisting. It’s also hypocritical for a dem from a safe district to ask other legislators to give up their career. How about Pelosi promising not to run again in exchange for other lawmakers taking a risky vote? Now that would be an act of courage which is something Pelosi and Obama are incapable of.

ANYTHING can be repealed. Not easily, perhaps – but it can be done.

In the meantime, if the Republican-contrilled congress chooses not to appropriate any money for any of the programs, new agencies, etc., then it doesn’t really have to be repealed – just allowed to die from inactivity and inertia.

But it depends upon having a Republican congress with some stones.

I’ve seen this movie – It’s called, “A Bridge Too Far” in which the Allied Airborne and Armor invade Holland in September, 1944 in Operation Market Garden – a last roll of the dice to end WW II before Christmas, but find they cannot take the bridge over the Rhine, and discover themselves in danger of defeat by the German Panzer Divisions.

In 2010, we Patriots are the Panzer Divisions in counter attack only this time all Democrat politicians in Congress gets to retreat back home.

This has Nothing to do with ‘health care’ – read all the bills – which talk only of ‘money’, not ‘health’ or ‘care’. Call it by its proper name, ‘mandated medical insurance purchase’.
Pill-o-see & fellow congresscritters want medical insurance for us all by forcing us all to buy medical insurance. It is unconstitutional to force citizens to pay for a private product.
Twice the interviewer asked Pillosee if she had the votes to pass this tyranny – twice Pillosee dodged the question; she doesn’t have the votes or she would have crowed it out – twice.
