More Hope and Change…
Obama’s latest assault on your rights– He wants to ban sport fishing.
Barack Obama has a message for America’s 60,000,000 anglers– We don’t need you.
The American Sportfishing Association reported back in October about the sweeping changes proposed by the Obama Administration in regards to the sport fishing industry:
A sweeping oceans and Great Lakes management policy document proposed by the Obama Administration will have a significant impact on the sportfishing industry, America’s saltwater anglers and the nation’s coastal communities. The draft policy, the Interim Report of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force, issued on September 17, will govern federal Pacific and Atlantic Ocean waters and Great Lakes resource conservation and management and will coordinate these efforts among federal, state and local agencies. This past June, President Obama created the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force, led by the Chair of the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), to develop a draft national policy and implementation strategy for conserving and managing the United States ocean territory and the Great Lakes.
Now it looks like the Obama Administration is going to move ahead with these restrictions.
ESPN reported:
The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation’s oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters…
“When the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) completed their successful campaign to convince the Ontario government to end one of the best scientifically managed big game hunts in North America (spring bear), the results of their agenda had severe economic impacts on small family businesses and the tourism economy of communities across northern and central Ontario,” said Phil Morlock, director of environmental affairs for Shimano.
“Now we see NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and the administration planning the future of recreational fishing access in America based on a similar agenda of these same groups and other Big Green anti-use organizations, through an Executive Order by the President. The current U.S. direction with fishing is a direct parallel to what happened in Canada with hunting: The negative economic impacts on hard working American families and small businesses are being ignored.
“In spite of what we hear daily in the press about the President’s concern for jobs and the economy and contrary to what he stated in the June order creating this process, we have seen no evidence from NOAA or the task force that recreational fishing and related jobs are receiving any priority.”
Consequently, unless anglers speak up and convince their Congressional representatives to stop this bureaucratic freight train, it appears that the task force will issue a final report for “marine spatial planning” by late March, with President Barack Obama then issuing an Executive Order to implement its recommendations — whatever they may be.
Led by NOAA’s Jane Lubchenco, the task force has shown no overt dislike of recreational angling, but its indifference to the economic, social and biological value of the sport has been deafening.
Additionally, Lubchenco and others in the administration have close ties to environmental groups who would like nothing better than to ban recreational angling. And evidence suggests that these organizations have been the engine behind the task force since before Obama issued a memo creating it last June.

The manufacturers of the equipment, the eateries all along the Jersey shore, the party boats, the outfitters, the campgrounds, the guides out west, the boat rentals, the bass channel, the magazines, the worm farms, the taxidermists, Cabellas, the restaurents around every lake, the guys that drive thd trucks to stock the lakes, the … And for what?

This is shocking in one sense, but not at all surprising given who we are talking about here.
Who might be able to bring public awareness to this issue in order to preserve the American tradition of feeding families from nature’s bounty?
Who might be well suited to inspire and then lead a people’s revolt against this type of regulatory tyranny?
Who could bring the American public’s attention to this liberty killing power grab, and point out that if sport fishing regulation of this type is successful, then how far behind will on-land hunting be, and ultimately the Second Amendment itself?
Who might be capable of being the American people’s Anti-Obama, so that the White House will have no choice but to hear them loud and clear?
Who would have instant credibility with the fishing industry, the sport hunting industry, the Second Amendment activists, and combine that with a high public profile and appeal to change the center of gravity in the debate for the better?
You get one guess, and it’s not John Kerry.

He governs best who governs least. We know that this administration has an intent interpose government into EVERY aspect of our lives. It’s part of socialism – it’s the sort of thing a socialist feels is good because of the underlying assumption that people are too stupid to do anything for themselves.
People voted poorly when they put this president and Congress into office. They can reverse the trend in November or they can accept every job will one day be a “government job”.
March 9th, 2010 | 8:54 am | #10
“This is aimed at Dick Cheney, who is known to be an avid fisherman.”
You guessed wrong. There is one person who is perfectly positioned right now to take this on and force the administration to either reverse course, or get extremely heavy political damage as the price for going ahead.
I’ll give a hint. This would be excellent subject matter for a one hour expose documentary report program to be aired throughout the weekend on Fox News Channel.

Ok, guessing time is up.
Sarah Palin. This is tailor made for her, given her background and public profile, and access to the media focus, both friendly and hostile.
She would destroy them on this, no doubt in my mind whatsoever.
Having been Governor of Alaska, which has more marine coastline than all 49 other states combined, and 3 million freshwater lakes, plus rivers and streams all over the place, she is uniquely positioned to be the point person for opposition to this insanity.
She is a commercial and sport fisherman, avid hunter, and Second Amendment advocate with experience running the state that depends on these industries for it’s economy more than any other. She can focus attention on the consequences, both to the economies of states like Alaska, and to erosion of Constitutional freedoms for all Americans.
The MSM would have no choice but to try and attack her to knock her down, but the attention will boomerang on them because, like most other things, she is on the side of %70-80 of Americans, where Obama and his people are not.
Paging Sarah Palin, your country needs you again.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) area a bunch of eco-fascists, nothing else.
They’ve lost every and all credibility.
When hunters in Germany shot a brown bear that was getting far too close to humans, showed absolutely no fear and was actually killing sheep (he didn’t eat them, he just killed them, which is totally unnatural behavior), the WWF screamed murder.

Just a reminder: Once this guy finally drops the pursuit of universal government-run healthcare, he’s going to restrict your freedoms in OTHER ways as well. Amnesty and cap-and-trade are just the ideas that have gotten the most attention. Banning sport fishing can’t be the only other thing. What’s next? Is this for real? Does this plan actually intend to put a defacto ban on recreational fishing? I don’t see any language in the post here that says so. Does anyone know where there is more complete language as well as more complete interpretation?
Also, is this another one of those bureaucratic edicts, rather than a legislation proposal subject to a Congressional vote?
Even if the asumptions here are an exaggeration, it does sound like there will at least be major restrictions on recreational fishing. If so, this is nuts. How many different kinds of people does this President want to piss off in how many different ways?
March 9th, 2010 | 12:23 pm | #53
There are those who rely on hunting and fishing to feed their families in part. They cannot be asked to give up this part of their economic life. Imagine, the Game Warden/Enforcer comes up to someone fishing and tells them they are under arrest for doing so. That person must us that input and his catch to feed his family. Most likely he is also a hunter and owns guns. I see very bad outcomes here. Enough of the Game Warden/Enforcers are found with a bullet to the head that will discourage any enforcement, therefore licensing revenues die and chaos ensues.
Hey, Zero! There are unintended consequences to what you want to do. You really are too stupid to breathe on your own.

Could you provide more detail about the restrictions Obama is “moving ahead with”?
Probably not, because they don’t exist. The task force hasn’t actually presented any ideas yet, but go ahead and jump to scary conclusion that “Obama wants to ban sport fishing.” You offer zero evidence to support that claim, but keep repeating it enough and maybe your fantasy will come true.
I like how what started as a reasonable policy suggestion (“the task force needs more input from rec. fishers”) morphs in an unsubstantiated lie meant to scare the “good Americans.” Why invent boogeymen when there’s actual issues to deal with?
You are right, however, that the NOAA and Obama don’t give a crap about recreational fishing. That’s because they know that it isn’t an environmental threat and have no interest in stopping it.

Obama believes that all things belong to the “state” and only through the bureaucracy can all land, fish, food, energy, homes, finance be doled back out to those who deserve it (according to them). Read Mao. Read my website for outtakes on the book I read about Mao- (www.truthandcommonsense.com). More importantly read my book REVOLT (www.revoltthebook.com) It is out now and the plot is based on federal government land grabs that lead to a confrontation between ranchers and farmers and the government set on ruling their lives. It is only one part of a larger plan the President has to overthrow the country and take control. I wrote the original draft in 1997 but set the time line around 2016 in a President’s second term.
I picked the ranch land of western U.S. as the location because of the constant destruction of their rights. Sooner or later people aren’t going to take anymore. It is one thing to tax a man, but take his land or starve his children and he’ll fight back. It is a balancing act I’m not sure Obama completely understands. His arrogance and elitism makes him blind to human nature.
When I worked the street I always watched the bad guy’s mannerisms. If we were arguing and he stood flat-footed I wasn’t too worried, but when he went up on the balls of his feet and clinched his fists I got ready.

It will never happen. This isn’t a banana republic. Have some faith in your fellow countrymen. We survived Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter, and we’ll survive Barack (and Michelle), too.
(Well, maybe not Michelle.)

this is the worst piece of “journalism” I have seen in a long time. Where are your sources? do you have any quotes other than from Shimano employees? where on earth do you come up with your “facts”? this is an editorial based on fear, grandstanding, political ignorance and finger pointing. Are you saying we shouldnt look into the use of Lead? You REALLY think that fishing will be banned 2000 miles up rivers? I dont think you do and to imply it is even a remote possibility is childish and irresponsible. Do you see the nutcases that you have brought out of the woodwork here? is that anything but destructive to the cause? You are a much bigger problem than this issue because it is people like you that have created such a false divide that nothing will get done on this, and for this you should be ashamed of yourself and shame on ESPN, as they are a joke publish such drivel. Too bad it is the thing that we all care about that will suffer the consequences. THE FISH. crawl back into your ignorant hole and let the grown up work this out…please do a google search for a an interview with her from NOAA on Science Friday. all she talks about is the fishing community and economy. you are pathetic that you could write an article on this subject and not point this and many interviews out or atleast quote from it..

Family farms and gardens threatened by the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009. Affects anyone growing food, even if they are not selling it but consuming it.
Jetstream, I was going to look this up to post it. Glad to see you’d already done it.
Control the food supplies and health care, and the rest is in the bag.

Yet another in a long line of tyrannical outrages. What is the proposed penalty for hunting or fishing in the king’s forest? Death? Seems I’ve heard this story somewhere before. This peasant has suffered enough to revolt, all it’s going to take is the right spark.

It is not just the waters but the land that Americans will be prevented from using..
Obama Plans 10 Million Acre Land Grab
“… the agenda to “fundamentally transform America” is following the Cloward/Piven handbook of community organizing. While the attention of the nation is focused on the health care debate, the administration has multiple agenda items moving full speed ahead and going relatively unnoticed. Their strategy is an elaborate shell game designed to keep us off balance and unable to keep up with the all changes in motion at any given time.
Their plan to grab over 10 million acres of land is an excellent example of one such item. At a time when the administration has promised to help create jobs and put Americans back to work the land grab they are secretly considering could actually put more people out of work. Recently a Department of the Interior memo surfaced revealing plans for the federal government to seize more than 10 million acres from Montana to New Mexico. The plan will increase federal control over energy-rich land in the West. The effects of this land grab includes killing jobs in forestry, mining and energy. The collateral damage is the tax revenue these industries generate.”
…
“America, it is time to wake up! Our country is being stolen from us while we watch. Are you ready to stop the madness? Open your eyes, the Constitution and the American way of life are under attack! You must fight back, the threat is real. There are “progressives” in our government who want to “fundamentally transform America”. This transformation is underway. Will you help stop it?”
“It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds.” -Samuel Adams”…

This is exactly what I feared and exactly what I expected.
Obama does not want anyone to escape the coming tyranny by being able to live off the land. What he doesn’t realise is that he can’t stop us! Think about it, just think of what you can find and use to go fishing! When the law passes and Orvis among other companies fail due to the ban, that will be horrible for many workers will be loosing jobs. But they can’t stop you the individual from getting creating with tools and making your own fishing equipment. Hold on to your best flyrods, take care of them and your reels. When your flyline needs to be replaced I’d bet there would be a substitute to be found if you think about it. As for making your own rods and reels, that is also possible-though they may not be as nice proformance-wise as the newest technologies, there are things out there that will work as decent substitues. Another hint for everyone who wish to fish illegally as I will do, make sure from now on not to pass up garage sales as they often harbor very good tackle treasure from bygone days!
Don’t be stopped, continue as you were!
It will be more difficult but don’t give up! Find a comunity to be a part of and live free!

Hey, don’t blame me, I voted for RON PAUL. As long as idiots are king….What we need here is a competentcy test for anyone who old enough to vote. Just a few simple questions. So we’re supposed to use safety pins tied to garden twine to do our recreational fishing whilst keeping a nervous lookout over our shoulders for the well armed federal “conservation” cops? And how do we use those expensive boats to get out in the Gulf where the real fun is while docks are watched? Walk on water while the Coast Guard fires across the bow? Don’t be absurd. What you describe is subsistence fishing purely for survival like what peons did poaching on the King’s land..

This is another scare tactic that all you crybabies are focusing on AGAIN it is false info. This whole thing started on the Blue Finn Tuna that has been ravenged over the last ten years, population is down 60% in the last ten years and the whole plan is figuring a way to farm or put some ristrictions against netting the whole schools at one time ( which is being done now all over the world) to possibly save a species that provides enjoyement for fisherman and food for so many. If you people would spend more time reading the facts instead of these rediculas lies you might no be so miserable.
March 10th, 2010 | 2:33 pm | #108
My god are you people a bunch of idiots. Besides the fact that the report says nothing about banning sport fishing, that so many of you would even believe this was possible speaks to your absolute derangement regarding our president.

You guys need to all check your facts — what their talking about is the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force that has been charged by the White House with developing a comprehensive federal policy for managing the nation’s waterways. Yes, they are interested in conservation and they are interested in setting new guidelines for fishing policies—but that includes commercial fishing policies that are threatening to deplete our food supply. Except they haven’t even gotten that far yet — here’s a link to the interim report — http://www.whitehouse.gov/assets/documents/09_17_09_Interim_Report_of_Task_Force_FINAL2.pdf
don’t email me, i don’t care what you guys think, just wanted to share.

You people are pretty stupid. This is all a bunch of sensationalist crap that is flatly NOT TRUE. Can you people read? If you bothered you’d see there is simply no mention of any kind of fishing ban. Sorry folks, but the only freedom haters are you morons who are buying into this lie. Only thing that should be banned is your ability to breed.

Don’t let the facts get in the way:
Obama Fishing Ban:To Ban Sport Fishing? – Obama fishing ban hoax is spreading like wild fire on the internet.Earlier today few media outlets including ESPN decided to report a false story that claimed Obama was planing to ban fishing as a sport. The truth of the matter is that the administration has decided to back a worldwide ban on fishing or trade in Bluefin Tuna in hope to preserve the stocks that remain. The New York Times has more on the story:
March 11th, 2010 | 2:20 am | #122
Are all you people complete idiots? Just because some yahoo from ESPN2 (hardly one of the world’s top news-gathering institutions) misinterprets something he probably heard second or third hand, doesn’t make it true. No administration would destroy a $125 billion industry that supports over 1 million jobs, particularly in a time when they are fighting for funding to create new jobs in this down economy.
The point of CMSP is to ensure that commercial fishing in our coastal and offshore territorial waters is carried on in a sustainable manner so that our children and grandchildren will actually have fish left for them to catch and eat. It is not to restrict or ban recreational fishing.
I am an avid flyfisher. I build custom rods and tie flies. I teach as many people as possible how to fish. I am a Democrat, as are many other avid outdoorsmen. You have liberals to thank for the Clean Water Act of 1972 and 1977, and the Water Quality Act of 1987, which have helped our freshwater fisheries immeasurably. The fact that most of us can safely eat the fish we catch is due in large part to the ‘conservationist wackos’. Why is it that the only thing conservatives want to conserve is their ability to make a buck, no matter the consequence to the environment and their descendants’ future?
March 11th, 2010 | 8:30 am | #123
My hope in the future of America would be renewed, if just one person who has commented here about how evil Obama is for banning sport fishing, were to go actually read the bill and come back here and apologize. But I guess that’s too much to hope for.
