The Obama White House has decided to take on the 60,000,000 American anglers.

(Hawaii Leisure)

The Obama Administration is pushing full steam ahead with their plan to fundamentally change America.
When the radicals are not pushing to socialize health care, offer amnesty to illegal aliens, or radicalize primary school education, they’re pushing new UN-styled rules and regulations on the sport fishing industry.
The Christian Science Monitor reported:

The Obama administration has proposed using United Nations-guided principles to expand a type of zoning to coastal and even some inland waters. That’s raising concerns among fishermen that their favorite fishing holes may soon be off-limits for bait-casting. In the battle of incremental change that epitomizes the American conservation movement, many weekend anglers fear that the Obama administration’s promise to “fundamentally change” water management in the US will erode what they call the public’s “right to fish,” in turn creating economic losses for the $82 billion recreational fishing industry and a further deterioration of the American outdoorsman’s legacy. Proponents say the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force established by President Obama last June will ultimately benefit the fishing public by managing ecosystems in their entirety rather than by individual uses such as fishing, shipping, or oil exploration.“It’s not an environmentalist manifesto,” says Larry Crowder, a marine biologist at Duke University in North Carolina. “It’s multiple-use planning for the environment, and making sure various uses … are sustainable.” (Amateur outdoorsmen have been fighting for their rights for years, as the Monitor reports here.)

Faced with the prospect of further industrialization along America’s coasts and the Great Lakes (wind turbines and natural-gas exploration, for example), the task force is charged with putting in place a new ecosystem management process called marine spatial planning. Marine spatial planning (MSP), according to the United Nations, is “a public process of analyzing and allocating the spatial and temporal distribution of human activities in marine areas to achieve ecological, economic, and social objectives that usually have been specified through a political process.” That kind of government-speak scares Phil Morlock, director of environmental affairs at the reel-and-rod maker Shimano. Mr. Morlock points to references by the ocean task force to “one global sea” as evidence that what’s really being proposed are broad changes to America’s user-funded conservation strategy, potentially affecting even inland waters. “I suggest that the task force recommend our model to the United Nations rather than us adopting the United Nations model,” he says in a phone interview. “The American model is the best in the world, so our question is: Why seek the lowest common denominator?”

Mr. Obama has said he will not override protections put in place by Presidents Clinton and Bush that established recreational fishermen as a special class.

But critics still worry about the Obama administration’s ties to environmental groups that espouse “anti-use” policies that put some habitats out of reach even for rod and reel fishermen, who take only 3 percent of America’s landed catch every year. “Angling advocates point out that senior policy officials on the task force seem inclined to ally themselves with preservationists and environmental extremists who want to create ‘no fishing’ preserves, with no scientific justification,” writes ESPN.com’s Robert Montgomery.

Just don’t get caught up in the “distraction” thing. This is yet another one; designed to redirect attention on something other than Obama’s Death Care legislation.

The Marxist regime is heralding a further erosion in our freedoms. We patriots have to be in a rush, too. When do we call for impeachment and the dissolution of the treasonous shadow government?

If this doesn’t wake up the rest of America to the goals of the radical environmentalists, I don’t know what will.

I’d almost enjoy going before a judge and explaining what I was doing with a fishing rod in my hand.

OK, that’s enough snark. Folks, this is getting serious. If you don’t see clearly the pressing need to vote out every politician who believes in the hoax of “climate change”, this should convince you. There may be many reasons given to ban fishing, but none of them will make any sense. Environmentalism has been radicalized and is now used not to preserve the planet, but to control your life, even when you aren’t doing anything wrong. We’ve got to roll back the outrageous rules and regulations that are based on this hoax and return sanity to Washington. If that means abolishing the EPA and repealing the Endangered Species Act, then so be it. Policing the environment is a duty that should belong to the states anyway, due to our varying geographies.

The zeal for power on the left must be stopped, or one day we’ll wish that it was only fishing that was banned.

Eventually, it seems, Obama will have alienated himself from almost all Americans. The ESPN crowd always seemed a little pc and easily sound bitten to this observer. I think something like this will awaken a few more sleepy Americans who are not realizing what is going on.

I have fished all my life including 20 years in the south china sea, arabian gulf, maledives, mediterrian, Alaska and the us gulf coast. The US territorial waters are the only ones to have been managed with any effectiveness. The “UN” managed areas are devoid of fishing stocks do to species ending overfishing. By making the regulation expansive and convuluted, the only govermental response is “no” which is respected by honest peoples. Dishonest folks run wild as a result of lack of supervision and the species die. There are parallels with how immigration and guns are not controlled.

Obama is laying the groundwork to prevent Americans from supplying their own food, Remember the bill they passed for Monsanto to regulate backyard gardens? Now a ban on fishing. Seems like he will be able to starve us just like Stalin.

Fishing is not only a sport and an industry, it is a moment in time where grandfathers pass wisdom to grandchildren, Father’s spend time with children, and families connect. Obamalamadingdong is ripping at something he does not understand. The Tapestry that is America. This is not going to end well.

Elections have consequences. Everyone knows the Democraps are Marxist environ-mentalists. So what did people expect? They want the animals to reclaim the Earth and feed off humans and for us to live in caves again if they’re feeling charitable. If they’re a little bit grumpy and not feeling so charitable they’ll march us all into eco friendly gas chambers and call it a late term abortion.

listingstarboard makes an important point. The US used to be the world’s breadbasket. Now, with most our food imported from abroad and after years of federal destruction of America’s farms, we are facing erosion of our ability to fend for ourselves. The fishing ban will be yet another phase in forcing Americans to rely on the government for absolutely everything. They will decide who will live and who will die by controlling every aspects of our lives. The heirs of Stalin and Mao are alive in the Hussein regime and out to wield absolute power over all Americans.

I used to get astonished responses when I used to sign off my pre-election comments against voting for Hussein with “Welcome to the gulag”.
Now, I really mean it: Welcome to the gulag.

    Rise up America…Rise Up!!

If there is a God in Heaven, he will give us the strength to overcome this Tyrannical Marxist thug and his assault on our freedom and ability to live and prosper as God intended.

For God’s sake America, look past your local Representation (House and Senate) and take in the whole picture…see what the “collective” leftist movement is doing to us in totality! Pelosi may bring home a project or two to SF, but look what she, Reid, Obama, and the other leftists are accomplishing as a group! Appeassing a small group while screwing the Country-at-Large…

Begin the defeat Obama and his anti-American Marxist establishment this November by cutting him off at the knees…expunge the congress of ALL his leftist allies and RINO appeasers. The next President can reverse his Socialist agenda if we do not forget what he has done today…

Outdoorsmen activities such as fishing are mostly a conservative past time. That’s why they don’t understand or care about ruining our culture. In fact they probably enjoy making us miserable. We should do the same to them and end their welfare handouts so they don’t have all that free time that they need to protest capitalism, our military, Christians and fishers.

“Liberals” like to make a lot of noise about diversity and liberty etc., but in reality they are a bunch of sanctimonious busybodies who think they can run your life better than you can. Scratch one and you will almost always find a tin-pot tyrant, and sometimes one with ambitions to be a good bit more than tin-pot. The latter use the power of government to force a majority into the same lifestyle they, a minority, have chosen for themselves. Obama and his ilk fall into this group.

Same holds true for hundreds of lower income Blacks (and others) here in Maryland along the Bay and its many tributaires, including the Potomac.

I don’t believe they care as much as they want these folks to turn to the government for subsitence (dependency).

Fishing has been America’s answer to ‘meditation’ for millions of Americans for centuries. Recreational fishing is so ingrained in our culture that this would be unconscionable, if true.

OK. I can see from the language of the proposed policies that it will not outright ban recreational fishing, but will likely place restrictions in many areas, and will just as likely have numerous unintended negative consequences.

Here’s what’s more important: It doesn’t have to be an outright ban for Americans to get angry, because it is in the American spirit and mentality to rebel at even modest provocations. That is why we are America, and not the southern part of Canada. Compared to what other people of the time endured from their rulers, the acts by King George and Parliament were rather mild, but we got pissed off anyway, and rightly so. This is our way, and we should keep it. It is “We The People,” not “We The Sheeple.”

I think it’s interesting that espn has issued a redaction of sorts. If you go to the ESPNoutdoors homepage, it’s the first thing that comes up. It was obvious to me after reading the article and comparing it with other sources that we (fisherman) are clearly not the intended target here. This is like saying that zoning laws are so the government can destroy businesses when they are actually to ensure that my kid’s school isn’t located next to a coal plant. It’s making a mountain out of a molehill. I plan to keep fishing, and I bet I never hear another thing about this.

Did a quick scan of the proposal. The goals of the proposal are essentially to provide additional protections and enhancment of marine habitats; logically that will necessitate implementing additional regulations for watersheds. I can see how this might provide numerous opportunities for environmental extremists to push for new restrictions on marine and inland fisheries, as well as on land use, in addition to the existing federal and state regulations, as well as fodder for lawsuits.

eh, just for the heck of it..

    flashback:

    LOST

[As the advisors talked among themselves debating whether the administration should sign the treaty as it stood or demand changes, the President sat by silently and listened. With the debate raging, suddenly the President's voice was heard to say, "Isn't that what it was all about?"

Debate stopped as everyone looked over to the President. "What, sir?" Reagan then repeated his statement. "Isn't that what it was all about -- the election? Doesn't it mean that we don’t have to sign these things?"

The group realized that President Reagan had just cut through all of the debate and stated the real issue. His administration had been elected to defend American sovereignty and independence, and that changes in a bad treaty didn't have to be negotiated. He could just refuse to sign and kill it right then and there. Ronald Reagan understood that he was the President of the United States and not a captive of someone else’s power grab.

And the Law of the Sea Treaty remained justifiably dead for the next 12 years until Bill Clinton pulled it out of the trash bin, dusted it off and signed it. Then, in the spirit of Reagan, a courageous Senator Jesse Helms, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, bottled it up until the Clintonistas were driven from power.]

    flashforward:

    American Sovereignty May Be LOST

[LOST -- the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea, also called the Law of the Sea Treaty -- regulates all things oceanic, from fishing rights, navigation lanes and environmental concerns to what lies beneath: the seabed's oil and mineral wealth that companies hope to explore and exploit in coming years.

But critics say the treaty, which declares the sea and its bounty the "universal heritage of mankind," would redistribute American profits and have a reach extending into rivers and streams all the way up the mighty Mississippi.

The U.N. began working on LOST in 1973, and 157 nations have signed on to the treaty since it was concluded in 1982. Yet it has been stuck in dry dock for nearly 30 years in the U.S. and never even been brought to a full vote before the Senate.

But swelling approval in the Senate and the combined support of the White House, State Department and U.S. Navy mean LOST may be ready to unfurl its sails again.

Sen. John Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said during a January confirmation hearing that he intends to push for ratification. "We are now laying the groundwork for and expect to try to take up the Law of the Sea Treaty. So that will be one of the priorities of the committee, and the key here is just timing -- how we proceed."

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, saying the treaty is vital for American businesses and the Navy, told Kerry that his committee "will have a very receptive audience in our State Department and in our administration."

LOST apportions "Exclusive Economic Zones" that stretch 200 miles from a country's coast and establishes the International Seabed Authority to administer the communal territory farther out. The treaty's proponents say it clears up a murky legal area that has prevented companies from taking advantage of the deep seas' wealth.]

extra! extra! read all about it..

Obama, the South China Sea and LOST

[“The whole theory of the treaty is that the world’s oceans and everything below them are the common heritage of mankind. Very socialist.”–Steven Groves, Heritage Foundation.]

Gun control in Supreme Court crosshairs

[The U.S. Supreme Court appears poised to broaden the accepted definition of the constitutional right to "keep and bear arms." If the exchanges from this week's hearing are any indication, the justices will strike down Chicago's ban on the possession of handguns. The question is whether the reasoning will extend to regulation, not just prohibitions, on guns.

The case, McDonald vs. Chicago, should be of great interest to Americans who believe that states, counties or cities should have the ability to decide for themselves whether certain weapons pose an undue risk to public safety.]

    Nigerian ‘gun control’ enables massacre

[UN chief Ban Ki-moon and Washington led calls for restraint on Monday after the slaughter of more than 500 Christians in Nigeria, as survivors told how the killers chopped down their victims.

And this happened while the victims were
    supposedly under government protection:

[S]ecurity forces… faced bitter criticism over how the killers were able
to go on the rampage at a time when a curfew was meant to be in force.

The attack wasn’t exactly a surprise:

…Muslim residents of the villages in Plateau state had been warned by phone text message, two days prior to the attack, so they could make
    good their escape…

Apparently, the politically incorrect killers used “profiling”:

Those who failed to respond in the same language were hacked to death.

Thankfully, the UN leader is “concerned,” and is
joined by Hillary Clinton in calling for “restraint.”

    After all:

“People were attacked with axes, daggers and cutlasses
    – many of them children, the aged and pregnant women.”]
